If you believe the rumours, Rafa will be leaving Newcastle. MA is just not a very smart individual, if he is after offering Rafa such a pitiful deal that he’ll walk. I don’t care how lucky he got in the business world, I’ll write him off as a moron if Rafa goes, as will all their fans.
If there’s a word of truth to it, then Chelsea have SURELY got to dive in there? Nine, I know you’ll feel the need to tell me about Chelsea’s history with Rafa, no offense when I say this (really) but save your breath, as beggars cant be choosers.
Chelsea are a MASSIVE club but the transfer uncertainty will put off most top managers. It just so happens that Rafa is a bit of a freak and seems to love a serious challenge. This is what Chelsea represent right now.
Put all feelings aside and go get the best manager that you can get. Someone who will take you through the transfer bans, finishing in as good a league position as is possible without hazard. Sheesh, that’s some task.
I will then look forward to Newcastle being sold or relegated.

20th June 2019 at 9:38 pm #42728Mak, I’ve already said on here more than the once and on the Chelsea site a number of times too that although Rafa might not be everyone’s choice at the Bridge he would be an excellent appointment imo.
But Frank and Jody look nailed on and tbh given all the circumstances I’m more than happy with that I’m hoping we’ll see Frank and Jody laying down the foundations of a new Chelsea even if it means a season of struggle and then next Summer with the money we saved from this Summer plus next Summer’s money plus the Hazard money etc he can go for it in the transfer market.

21st June 2019 at 1:07 pm #42729“Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is ready to pay ยฃ45m for Real Betis defender Junior Firpo.
Klopp is looking at options at left-back after releasing Alberto Moreno this summer.
And Spanish newspaper Sport say Liverpool could meet Firpoโs ยฃ45m release clause in his current contract.
The Spain Under-21 international impressed last season for Betis in La Liga.”
Seems a lot of money and a bit uneccesarry given how good Robertson is might be difficult to keep both players happy too?

21st June 2019 at 1:16 pm #42730Cech appointed Technical and performance advisor “The focus of the job will be to provide advice on all football and performance matters throughout the club as well as embed and facilitate strong links between our menโs and academy teams, ensuring that the various support departments are working together effectively.”
Bit of a reboot going on at Chelsea with the link between the Academy and the first team highlighted and reinforced.
Cech first in Frank and Jody to follow next week? Chelsea won’t win the League of maybe qualify for the CL even the EL but I sense this is a strategic change of direction to lay the foundations down for a new Chelsea.
It will be an interesting season at Chelsea with a significant transfer spend possible next Summer to add some quality players in strategic positions.

21st June 2019 at 3:34 pm #42731I really wish United were hit with a 2-year-long ban on transfers,so we too could try and bring through some youngsters, not Instagram cunts like Pogba & JLingz.

21st June 2019 at 5:57 pm #42733I know you you might disagree but OGS limited in spend as they dont have the money unless they sell. Third quarter cumulative profits just ยฃ41m and Glazers yet to take their dividend.
Thats why they need to sell first._____________________________

22nd June 2019 at 2:31 am #42735Anonymous“โThe day that this is football, Iโm not in a job any more, because the game is about playing together. If I spend money, it is because I am trying to build a team, a real team.โ”
โMaybe things were lost in translation but my point was: if we reach a point where football is solely about money and not football, then Iโm leaving. And I still feel the same way about it:””
The figures have changed but what Klopp is talking about has remained very much the same. His teams are still about the sum of parts and not just additions of stars. It’s a non-story TBH man, I think if the media are going to nit-pick in this kinda thing, they are just bored.

22nd June 2019 at 6:16 am #42736Mak@2:27am “Big rumours on Rafa this morning who personally I would be quite happy with but I think itโs unlikely despite him being second favourite now behind Frank.” posted by me on here on the 11/06.
We can’t pretend though that Rafa didn’t have a difficult time at Chelsea previously due to his Liverpool background and how disparaging he was about Chelsea and Chelsea fans which were the reasons for the fans negative reactions to his appointment which wasn’t unified and at the time I said it was the best appointment Chelsea could make given the circumstances.
However I think given the passages of time and if the Club weren’t seemingly so intent on appointing Frank Lampard as part of a completely new strategy Rafa would be an outstanding candidate for the Chelsea role.

22nd June 2019 at 6:29 am #42739Mak@2:31am Mak, this was just an understandable admission from Klopp that in order to compete with the best Liverpool needed to spend big it’s in his own words and taken from an interview he did with a German newspaper so it’s not been chased out of him by the English media.
“Liverpool is an ambitious club and if we didnโt spend the same amount of money as others, we wouldnโt be able to compete. Everybodyโs splashing the cash, so we have to do the same.โ
I don’t think it needs to be defended at all,all of the teams who have won the PL bar Leicester City which was a once in a life time happening have spent big.
Personally I’m glad Liverpool spent big it made the PL a much more exciting competition last season and long may that continue and if Spurs spend a bit this Summer and hold on to their best players it would make next season’s PL more exciting still.
All the most succesful teams are about the sum of the parts and not just the additions of stars mate.

Be a good signing but he’s probably right.

22nd June 2019 at 10:29 am #42743nine do you Lampard will be treated differently then previous managers?
Like will he be given time and patcience? If Chelsea finish outside the top
4, will they sack him?Chelseaโs model has worked for years so why will this be different and do Chelsea fans really think Lampard be given a few years to build?
The fans will fully support him. Be interesting to see if the club do. Transfer ban etc makes it more difficult for Chelsea but they already have a very good squad in my opinion
Lampard will give youth a chance. Chelsea legend and a like able character. Like ole at its, even if frank doesnโt do well, it wonโt tarnish his legendary status.
I donโt think heโs the right man for the job. To early for him but he knows the club inside out. Itโs going to be interesting mate

22nd June 2019 at 1:12 pm #42744Sean, from the fans perspective they will give Frank and Jody time even if Chelsea finish outside the top 6 from the Club’s perspective this is a complete reboot and a new strategy partly bought about by circumstances and designed to make the most of the great young players we currently have and that is confitmed in the Club’s announcement on Cech.
Is it too soon?
Almost certainly but sometimes you can’t choose as to when you make these big sea changes in strategy circumstances dictate. It could all go horribly wrong or it could be a spectacular success only time will tell allegedly Roman has promised Frank and Jody two years no matter the results and I think that’s both right and important.
The big difference between Frank and Jody and Ole is in fact Jody Morris because he’s managed all of our best young players until only last Summer and knows them all really well and will know the ones who can add something to the team/squad.
The task as I see it is to get through the coming season with the transfer ban at the same time bringing through some of our best young players into the team and squad then next Summer armed with a bumper transfer budget ( two Summers worth plus the Hazard fee) sign one or two high quality strategic players to add to that.
The easy way would have been to appoint someone like Rafa who would have been a safe pair of hands and he would have done a good job but the Club/ Roman have chosen a different direction with the future in mind.
It’s very exciting imo albeit fraught with danger.?

22nd June 2019 at 1:23 pm #42745Moos, hear what you say mate but Chelsea could do with signing a game changer Coutinho might not be the right one but there aren’t many about.
All a mute point anyway given the current transfer ban.

22nd June 2019 at 4:41 pm #42750Anonymous“Coutinho would not be an asset may be brilliant on his day or in patches but generally too erratic, too expensive and nowhere near Hazard. ”
I can see your point, to a small extent, however I would generally disagree. Coutinho was never one of the best players in the world, Hazard is/was. That said, he wasn’t a million miles away from that type of level. He’s no longer flavour of the month, after a poor season in a Barca side that he was destined to stick out, within.
As for Chelsea, he was , in my opinion, be a great signing for them. The issue I have with Coutinho is that he needs others to do the defensive legwork for him. That is the sole reason that would have me against resigning him (well, obviously price.. but should go without saying).
Chelsea have the midfield to do the defensive work for him and he suits the PL more than Barca in La Liga. I don’t know what style the next manager would choose to operate but he’s decent in a counter-attacking setup, so Rafa? Who knows how Lamps might play if he gets it? I don’t anyway.
For me, he’s a 50-80M player. I think 50m now, who would quickly show that he’s worth more, if he went to the right team.

22nd June 2019 at 5:19 pm #42753Eriksen to United? Surly not if he’s going to go as seems likely without he agrees to sign a new contract Spurs need to sell him abroad.
