Poch doing somersaults yesterday in trying to justify his earlier statement re needing investment in the team. Fair do’s to him tho at least he hasn’t groaned and moaned about it like Conte did last season.

10th August 2018 at 9:46 am #25122It’s all set up to be a great PL season imo Liverpool are stronger and will push City for the title Arsenal are stronger Chelsea have improved the team and both will push for a top 4 spot and Everton will push the top 5 with their signings and I suspect United will still be in or around the top of the table. With everyone trying to keep up with City!

10th August 2018 at 10:00 am #25125It’s that time of year, with all us mugs getting giddy on the expectations of our teams, the dreams that every signing
we’veyou’ve made will hit the ground running, assumptions that because they cost a bundle, celebrations are guaranteed……there’s a reason why the game is played and the shiny things aren’t automatically handed out to those who’ve paid the most… π

Reckon we’re on the same page, unless we were going to get a 100 mil plus first teamer, it wasn’t worth spunking our cash of more “Disco’s”…
Undoubtedly the window could have been better, but I certainly don’t think it was a disaster.

10th August 2018 at 1:20 pm #25129You would have got long odds on Fulham spending more than Chelsea, Everton spending more than City,Wolves spending more than Spurs and West Ham spending more than United but it’s made the PL even more interesting.
In the title race in the race for CL and EL places and in the fight to stay up with both the promoted Club’s in Wolves and Fulham looking capable of achieving a mid table position it’s going to be close.
Have a look at Eric’s message to the United players and Klopp’s press conference telling everyone Liverpool are Rocky Balbao not Ivan Drago brilliant stuff.
Can’t wait now and it all starts at 8pm tonight live on Sky.?

10th August 2018 at 5:24 pm #25134FROM PEP
They [the squad] showed me in two seasons we can trust them so we believe we have a good squad,” Guardiola said at a news conference.
“I said last season many times we cannot spend every season, we spend when we should spend, we had seven or eight players aged 30 or 31 [to replace].
“I’m so happy with the team and I said last season maybe one or two [arrivals], but we don’t have any more money to spend, that is the truth.
“We couldn’t spend more than we could this season, maybe next season we are more active but we have spent a lot on young players for the next season and that’s the reason why.”

10th August 2018 at 5:36 pm #25135Adlab, to be fair Pep has spent circa Β£500k circa Β£300m net in the two years he’s been there and the squad was very strong when he arrived too.
Currently City have the best squad in the PL and one of the best squads in Europe which was reflected by the performance in the Charity Shield.
City didn’t really need to spend this Summer although Mahrez will be a very useful addition.

10th August 2018 at 5:43 pm #25138Nine. That is exactly right. We didnt need to spend. Others wanted to spend money they dont have. Others have to.

10th August 2018 at 6:14 pm #25139Adlab, given FFP I’m not sure anyone has spent money they don’t have and remember transfer fees are amortized over the length of a players contract as an example the Kepa fee for instance is Β£10m a year over 7 years.
If City can’t spend “we donβt have any more money to spend, that is the truth” it is probably because they need to balance expenditure given the past two years of expenditure in order to remain within the FFP rules.

10th August 2018 at 6:38 pm #25142Mav, you’re right mate last season Swansea who were relegated earned almost Β£100m from TV monies.
Interestingly though I understand PL transfer spending was down Β£200m on last Summer’s window.

10th August 2018 at 7:19 pm #2514427-It had a great deal to do with then WC influencing the transfers and the shortened window for the EPL,otherwise it would have been much, much more.Just reading that United DID offer Pogba money to Real Madrid for Varane.Imagine what would have happened had the window been going on till the 31st.

10th August 2018 at 8:20 pm #25148Mav,true enough mate but the PL transfer window opened on the 17th May to compensate for the early close of August 9th the World Cup did impact plus two of the PL’s biggest spenders in United and City have been quiter than normal in this window.
