Re Higuain I think we did too Mav, Higuain was too old at that money and a short term solution that reflecta the limited number of quality strikers available even at over £50m and £170k pw.
Much better imo for Sarri to work with Morata to see if he can improve him the way he did Higuain and Merten at Napoli.

Morning Hightown. Many City fans do think LFC and Klopp get an easy press. Be interesting to see how you do now Klopp has been backed heavilly by the owners, for me he’s still a weak link. But to make up 25pts, three places, 22 goals and a GD of 33 in in 1 season is I think is too much even if you had a proven sucessful manager in charge. I also think City will be just as strong if not stronger this season with Mendy and Mahrez now in the team and the young squad more experienced. So I’m not that worried HH, but im certainly looking forward to it. Cheers Jim. Ps and yes i did have to look up the GD and GS stats. ?

Hello Hightown!
Its hard to be objective but Liverpool do get a very easy press. In the end provvided a team can afford to spend so be it. Will we get the phrase ” big spending Liverpool” attached to every other article? I think not. Unlike articles on City.
Utd well thats another story.I do think Liverpool will be up there but I do have doubts about Klopp.

Liverpool have bought like city and utd have done since klopp came in.
Pressure is on him now. Needs to win a trophy.,
Rapid progress has been made under him. Question mark over klopp is whether he can organize a defence and can he get us over the final hurdle in a final etc.
He’s lost his last 6 finals. Liverpool have lost their last 4 finals. It’s demoralizing to be honest and klopp and the club. We badly need a trophy
Problem is it’s massive pressure now. Not from the fans but everywhere else.
I think we are so desperate for a trophy at this stage and it’s getting everyone over anxious

Morning Jim / Adlab.. Jurgen Klopp’s net spend in the 34 months he’s been at Liverpool is £114,850,000, an average of less than £40m a year, and that average is likely to drop some more over the next few days if we can offload Ings for £24m, Origi maybe, Mignolet etc. Now I don’t have the facts and figures in front of me, and frankly, I can’t be bothered researching them, but I would be pretty confident that both Man City and Man United’s net spend over the same period is considerably higher, so while ‘big spending’ Liverpool is a term that fits for this summer, I don’t think it really fits over Klopp’s tenure…at least not in comparison to the two Manchester clubs.
As for getting an easy ride from the Press, there have been plenty of comments and articles in the Press about Liverpool’s big spending this summer. A comment from today’s Sunday Telegraph ‘…how long can Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Poch at Spurs continue to claim they do not need to win trophies to be successful?’
All in all, it has been a long time since I’ve been as optimistic at the start of a season as I am at the moment, but you’re right, 30 points or whatever it was is far too much to claw back this season. My only hope is that Man City may concentrate more on the Champions League this season, but really I can only see one winner of the league, and my pre-sesason Lucky 15 bet on the winners of each of the 4 English leagues says the same. Even at ridiculous odds, Man City is the only bet to take.
It’ll be a fun season though. Since Klopp arrived the whole atmosphere at the club has been transformed, the football has been breathtaking at times, and I feel we’re still developing, so yes, I’m optimistic!

Hightown, £24m for Ings might be optimistic. Talk of a loan deal with Newcastle with Newcastle buying him next season for £15m if they stay up and Ings stay fit. Allegedly Southampton aren’t prepared to match that?
I do think though that Klopp plans to cull the squad between now and Thursday.

Hightown you have every right to be optimistic. Net spend is low but slightly distorted by Courtinho sale but a sale is a sale. If Hart goes to Burnley for £4m we would have current spend £60m and sales about £20m so far. A very low net spend!!

Mav, I know you’re not Martial’s biggest fan but Twitter has the United fans dead against it and Chelsea fans happy with it?
More rumours than action though with Chelsea strongly linked to Zaha, Martial and Aaron Ramsey and I suspect none of them will happen.

27-I love watching Martial play m8,when he wants to,but them days are very rarely a case.It could be Jose destroying the flair players with his boring tactics.Martial has been very lazy the last few months of the last season,he might very easy prosper under a different manager.Thats the reason why some United fans dont want him going to another PL team,but we don`t want Willian,Toby,Maguire either tbh.Overrated,overpriced,and too old!
