The effect of the World Cup, players on holiday and shorter window all combine!

3rd August 2018 at 7:21 pm #24796Arsenal have bought well too imho, and if they can sign N`Zonzi too, would make a very good window for them including getting rid of that dinosaurus Wenger.United,Chelsea, and Spurs have been disastrously bad so far!

3rd August 2018 at 7:25 pm #24797Jorginho is a great signing for Chelsea Mav. I suspect none of the players that Arsenal have bought would have been on the shopping list of any of the top 6. Liverpool have had a good window especially signing Allison as they needed a Keeper but Keita was pre contract signed last Season.

3rd August 2018 at 7:53 pm #2480027-They are very good players imho, especially getting Leno for just under Β£20m and Torreira for over Β£30m when you consider.Sokratis is a very good addition and much better than Kos.Your guys are in serious trouble if Morata and Giroud are your strikers.

3rd August 2018 at 8:52 pm #24801Paxton…I think you are right about Levy, he has done a good job in trying to improve Spurs in all areas, Fans need to appreciate that takes a lot of planning and sometimes it will go wrong, I believe he over extended with the Stadium, however, he may yet be proved right Spurs continue to play football and I do admire them for that. I think you biggest danger is that the team, maybe young enough, but appears not growing together to sustain title challenge, again, I stand to be proven wrong That does need investment, you have no back ups for key players at this level

3rd August 2018 at 10:06 pm #24802Mav, I agree Chelsea have a bit of a weakness in the striker area but who is there to buy. Sarri needs to work with what he’s got out of Morata, Michy, Tammy and Giroud.
Elsewhere though the Chelsea squad looks strong and the addition of Jorginho and the emergence of Hudson Odoi has strengthened the squad.
Last season with all of the problems in the club Chelsea finished just 5 points of a Champions League place which went to an unlikely last game of the Season.
If Chelsea weren’t competing for a CL this season then perhaps we would have a “serious problem” but I’m very hopeful Chelsea will be competing for a CL place albeit it won’t be easy to achieve given all of the competition.
The biggest problem Chelsea currently have is with Courtois and whether they let him go if they can sign a decent replacement or hold on to him for this season and that one is still being worked out. Cheers 999

4th August 2018 at 10:43 am #2480427-Yes m7 I agree, there is a serious shortage of very good players out there! I never expect Arse to go for the likes of Messi,Lewa,Verratti,Mbappe, etc, and considering how many teams out there have the financial power to spend I reckon Arse have done a very good deal of business so far.Their main problem was AW,and having manage to get rid of him they are a different story now. They still have the likes of Cech,Ospina,Monreal,Wellbeck to ship out,but so far they have done well imho.Any player coming to the PL can fail,no matter the price-tag,but they have addressed some key issues!

4th August 2018 at 10:45 am #248053×9-The 2 top places in the PL next season are sorted imho, with City and Liverpool fighting it out for the title! That will leave United,Spurs,Chelsea, and Arsenal competing for the other 2 remaining CL places!

4th August 2018 at 11:02 am #24806Mav, I wouldn’t write United out of the title race just yet but ultimately I don’t think anyone will finish above City.
With Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal competing for 4th place.
Personally I will be happy with that it’s a Season of transition for Chelsea with a new Manager and a completely different way of playing.
Hopefully if Chelsea fall short in the PL they can get through the back door for a CL place in the EL.?

4th August 2018 at 11:31 am #24808Liverpool are still short lads
Lalanna injures agsin, ox out for season abd couthino not replaced. Shaqiri is our only real number ten. Keita can play that role but we are still short.
Looks like Sturridge is backup to Firmino which wonβt work. He just wonβt stay fit
Lose vvd and we are snookered. We need another centre back. We are done for the window.
People are expecting keita yo bit the ground running but as pax says, there is no guarantees spending money brings success and some players find it hard to adjust

4th August 2018 at 1:41 pm #24810Sean, I think you’re right the current Liverpool squad without they get really lucky with injuries look a bit thin and may fall short of being able to win the PL.
But currently Liverpool are the most credible challengers to City which is why they are second favourites to win the title. Cheers 999

4th August 2018 at 4:58 pm #24812Klopp is in the same category as Brendon Rogers. A nearly man. Certainly a big spend by Liverpool. Cant spot any newspaper criticism. Why do you think its OK for them and Utd but not for Chelsea and City?

4th August 2018 at 5:28 pm #24813To be fair to Liverpool this is just paper talk and it would be difficult to see how Liverpool could spend again without selling some.
Be surprised if it were to happen but good luck to Liverpool if they think they can do it.
There will be loads of rumours flying around over the next few days but very few really big deals happen in the last few days of the window.
With the exception of Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea of course!?
David Maddock of the Mirror tweeted: βNo #LFC interest in Aaron Ramsey – no chance of any further Liverpool signings before window closes. Reds will concentrate on outgoings, Mignolet, Origi, Ojo, Grujic could all go, some on loan. Danny Ings will also depart next week – though Palace not favourites.β

4th August 2018 at 6:36 pm #24815If Liverpool get Β£20m for D.Ings they deserve a Nobel prize. If Mignolet,Karius,Origi,Markovic,Ings are sold,I can see Pool splashing again.

4th August 2018 at 8:04 pm #24816Adlab because liverpool have had to sell to buy for years unlike city mate. Also utd get plenty of stick for the money they spent.
Iβve never had a problem with the money others have spent. We wonβt spend again. We will just sell and our net spend will be under 80m Iβd say but you never know

4th August 2018 at 8:29 pm #24818Mav, except whether we like it or not everyone has to work within FFP or face the consequences and John Henry has always been very supportive of FFP.
I think Sean’s probably right and Liverpool will try to balance the books now ending with a net spend of circa Β£80/Β£100m. But we’ll see I certainly can’t see Liverpool putting themselves in any danger of breaking FFP.
