Ed, we certainly have significant issues at the back and Van Dijk looks a shadow of his former self. But just a couple of the right players can really lift you, though I donโt hold out for much that weโll get them. As things stand, we sort of look like that Brendan Rodgers second season in 13/14 where we very effective up top, but a lot less so at the back.

30th August 2023 at 6:46 pm #208995Have to agree with you Ed.
We’re trying to reformulate a midfield from the exodus and so weirdly, the players that have played with each other the most in defense where you think you can rely have let us down. I’m with Mikus; does remind me of Brendan Rodgers team relying on our attack to get us out of jail.
Apparently Gomez has been linked to Saudi.

30th August 2023 at 8:26 pm #208997It’s madness Sean ๐. Chelsea must now be fully expecting a transfer ban and are just stocking up in preparation. I really don’t know how City get so much money for their players.

30th August 2023 at 10:13 pm #208999Yeah it is impossible to think we wont breach because clubs like utd even are pinching pennies ahead of this season, many clubs are worried about failing PL rules, but we are not.
Is that because the club is confident we won’t breach? or confident in what the punishment will be?
Palmer is a surprise but it’s basically covered by what we brought in for 18 year old left back so this transfer alone isn’t madness, this one could prove to be one of the better moves.

31st August 2023 at 6:29 am #209002“Defensively, Liverpool look a mess at times. Trent was given the run around again by Newcastle”
Was he though? Yes up until the sending off he looked rattled but after going to 10 men Klopp abandoned this stupid IWB system and we actually looked far better defensively. In fact most of Newcastles threat came down Robertson!s side in the shape of Almiron.
If liverpool abandon the IWB system and revert back to what gave us some great seasons then we can match anyone with this squad and one or two more additions. Sadly it seems Klopp is heavily influenced by Ljinders who has openly stated the IWB is his idea. Getting rid of that clown would be Liverpools best transfer buisness!

31st August 2023 at 7:44 am #209003Palmer is an excellent signing for Chelsea, hard to believe City let him go, maybe it’s about the money to balance the books I don’t know but probably amongst Chelsea’s top 3 buys out of over a dozen.

31st August 2023 at 12:23 pm #209007Iโve seen absolutely nothing from palmer to believe heโs worth 45m
Hall off Chelsea looked a proper prospect. Itโs mad money for both.
City really getting big money for academy players.

31st August 2023 at 2:35 pm #209014From Forbes. Anyone agree,Ed?
There are talks going on to further reinforce the squad with Chelseaโs Marc Cucurella on loan to replace Luke Shaw, who has a long term injury; Fenerbahceโs goalkeeper Altay Bindir to come in as second choice behind Onana; and Sofyan Amrabat from ACF Fiorentina, who has been pining for a move to the Red Devils since the end of June. While they are not poor purchases in principal, it appears Manchester Unitedโs transfer business โ as shown over the past decade โ is far more scattergun and fast and loose than that of Cityโs. There does not appear to be a complete system in-house to mould players to, and so far looks to be players being brought in under Ten Hag who have had a former relationship with the Dutch manager.

31st August 2023 at 2:38 pm #209016Not sure I wholly agree but maybe the point about Ten Hag I think is relevant. Time will tell.

31st August 2023 at 2:44 pm #209017Palmer is a talented player for sure and I’m sorry to lose him. But ยฃ40m is a deal you can’t turn down. Even with today’s silly money and given what he’s shown so far, that’s far too much but I wish him well.
The only question is where will he play or will he be just a sub as at City.
On balance good business. We’ve done really well out of Academy players last year as well._____________________________

31st August 2023 at 3:12 pm #209020Yeah adlab, 40m for a player who is surplus to requirements. Good deal for City, let’s hope I am as happy with the deal in a few months time ๐
