I cannot see a Saudi team join the CL but I can see the Saudi’s making their own tournament and luring the top European teams by pumping billions into it.
Before you know it a super league is formed and league football is dead as we know it. I actually suspect this could be the end goal of this whole Saudi movement into top level football.

23rd August 2023 at 11:28 am #208695According to certain cyber rags, the Jammy Todgers are planning on signing another 4 players before the transfer window… FFP rules or not, they’re basically just taking the piss now…

23rd August 2023 at 4:50 pm #208697When will people realise that FFP in its current form just won’t work.
Believe it or not I actually believe there needs to be a restriction on NET SPEND combined with a restriction on write off periods- say a five year maximum and not being able to spread the cost over say nine years.
There also needs to be a limit on wages:turnover ratio but using a rolling average for example to provide some flexibility. In addition there needs to be an acceptable net profit:turnover ratio.
For the Balance sheet there needs to be a minimum debt:equity ratio so that owners cannot finance an acquisition by debt such as happened with United and one or two others.
A wages cap would be more problematic but is possible. If a more sophisticated system based on the above there would be FFP.
Also more latitude could be given on P&L parameters for teams newly in the league but Balanced by tighter debt:equity ie owners having to provide more equity to finance costs. Then there is the issue of foreign ownership backed by wealth funds. That can’t be ignored so scrutiny into equity investment is necessary or something else…this one’s difficult.
But the current system merely creates an oligopoly and just a few clubs benefit provided they can get on the ladder.

23rd August 2023 at 7:00 pm #208699Well of course FFP doesn’t work City have already proven that.
FFP already states 5 years maximum for amortisation however as Chelsea are not in Europe this doesn’t affect them. The Premier Leagues own rules of Profit and Sustainability still use as long as the contract is hence the 8 year contracts given out this season.
Heck or a risk by Chelsea as I can see it falling down around them but nothing actually to do with FFP.

23rd August 2023 at 8:32 pm #208702Silva signing an extension which will be of a big help to Man City.
Andre supposedly has agree personal terms to join Liverpool. Be a nice booster just before we reach closure.

23rd August 2023 at 8:46 pm #208704Lavia apparently agreed terms with liverpool before a bid was accepted but then did a u-turn so I wouldn’t read too much into it.
I think there’s little chance of buying Andre now as his team are still in the Copa Libertadores and their transfer window is shut giving them no chance of a replacement. Plus he’s only 80% owned by his club so its complicated. January would be a far better bet.

24th August 2023 at 5:13 pm #208718Salah to Saudi?
Don’t think he will entertain that but can you imagine the money on offer. Given his heritage and religion etc he might just be temptedDon’t think it will happen but the money…….

24th August 2023 at 7:09 pm #208719Including today City net spend so far £95m. More than expected. (United £131m ) I am not surprised at United as they need to refresh
Chelsea £125m, Arsenal £171m
Enormous spend by Arsenal
Ours and Chelsea net spend relatively low as both have made good sales.
Still a week to 🚶♀️ 🎠_____________________________

25th August 2023 at 9:49 am #208724Adlab, what are your thoughts on City’s new signing? The winger?

25th August 2023 at 7:14 pm #208727I’ve never seen him play. Only clips but that proves nothing. The one bit I have seen is that if I were a fullback I would be worried taking him on, one on one. He looks pretty nippy but I’d question his control. But with Grealish on one wing and this guy on the other it might be tricky to defend against. However, the French league is not the EPL so we’ll see.
What it does do is give an extra more unpredictable dimension. I often think this is where, thankfully, Klopp gets it wrong. No plan B?_____________________________

25th August 2023 at 9:03 pm #208732I am certainly not suggesting he is correct, but swissramble, a very respected football finance blogger, is saying that he expects a record FFP breach for Chelsea next season.

25th August 2023 at 10:16 pm #208733It depends on how much they sell. For the next 5 years they need to cover the amortasied amounts all these transfers incure if they make it to europe by selling players, ideally ones that have no amortasied values (like Mount, academy players etc). For the PL the payment can be amortasied over the full length meaning less per year but still needs to be covered and of course is not dependent on European qualification.
At least this is how I see it. They are playing a very risky game.
What did Swissramble actually say? Only links I see require a subsciption.

26th August 2023 at 6:28 am #208736Didn’t the Prem also change that rule to 5 years, starting next year??

26th August 2023 at 7:07 am #208737I don’t think so. UEFA changed FFP to 5 years because of Chelsea’s contracts but I think the Premier Leagues P+S rules are still for the length of the contract. This might change of course, but not sure they can punish retrospectively in that case.
This link explains Chelsea’s situation far better.

26th August 2023 at 8:42 am #208738I’m not sure where Swissramble wrote about it but the Swedishrumble referenced his point on Twitter recently
🚨 The @SwissRamble have confirmed our — scoop — from two weeks ago with a fresh forecast also showing that CFC is heading towards a record breach of the FFP provisions next summer!
A forecast is a forecast and the direct insight into a club like Chelsea is very limited, but… pic.twitter.com/MAvZPP8beH

26th August 2023 at 9:50 am #208739That’s the worry I will have for next 2 or 3 years Ed.
Not sure how recent the projections are or whether they take in to account transfers this summer that actually from financial POV count towards the next year. Mounts 55m fee will be counted as incoming for 23/24 for example. And we have lewis Hall fee lined up too plus probably other sales.
We all know it’s very possible chelsea breach because we must be counting on generating a certain amount of money to avoid breach. I am sure if the assessments were done today chelsea would be in breach by a lot.

26th August 2023 at 10:42 am #208740It’s an interesting theory Lucky re them almost expecting a transfer ban. It wouldn’t really hurt them that much to be honest. They’ve bought so many players now that it’s just a survival of the fittest where they pick the ones who make it and sell the others. They’re set for years to come even with a potential ban.

28th August 2023 at 6:02 am #208947Interesting thoughts with regards to the Jammy Todgers “expecting” a transfer ban so are going down with “all guns blazing” so to speak…
I hope that doesn’t come back to bite you in the ARSENAL (obvioulsy a fib, I hope Jaws comes along and takes a huge bite!) as such a flagrant act of breaking of the rules might have more than just a “transfer” ban along with your left buttock… for being extra double naughty you might get a points deduction or even a ban from Europe to go along with your transfer ban…
