P.s Alfie, contracts may not be able to amortised over terms greater than 5 years now and will accept that. But the basic principles are still the same, in that you can’t look at a billion pounds spend and 200m incoming as an 800m loss within the year, when the outgoings are in fact amortised over a longer period.
In this example 1bn over 5 years would be 200m per year to be covered as opposed to say 150m per year if it was spread over 8.Chelsea need to generate enough each year to cover that years amortised outgoings , that’s all I was saying and the principle is right.

13th August 2023 at 3:31 pm #208198Have to say I’m a bit surprised Kane went to Bayern. If he waited just one more season he could pretty much take his pick next year on where he went being out of contract. Now he’s tied himself down to Bayern until 2027. Had he stayed there’d surely been no shortage of top club takers next season. And he’d still have the PL record to chip away at. Seems of a bit of a rushed decision to make as though it was a last chance saloon, when I don’t think it was.

13th August 2023 at 3:42 pm #208199Mikus, I don’t think he wanted to move to another prem club for free mate. He does love spurs, would have left years ago if he didn’t.

13th August 2023 at 3:45 pm #208201Didn’t Kane want to move to City a few seasons ago?

13th August 2023 at 3:52 pm #208204Yeah but spurs would have had a bucket load of cash for him if he did. I don’t think he would have wanted to leave spurs for another prem club on a free but that’s just my gut feeling.

13th August 2023 at 3:57 pm #208206Ye exactly lucky. I think his plan is to return to spurs after his 4 year contract is up. He is about 40/50 goals off the record I think. Footballers Carrer is longer these days if they look after themselves

14th August 2023 at 9:11 am #208268Watching Sky sports news you’d be forgiven if you thought the EPL wad a London league?
Just like most other things.

14th August 2023 at 9:31 am #208269Neymar going there at 31 is rather significant though. He may not be likeable but that’s a very big and very good player going there at an age where he is still at the top of his game. Something tells me the World Club Cup is going to grow into a much more significant competition in the coming years. Historically it’s been a bit of a nothing competition but with the emergence of the Saudi league and the likes of Messi going to the MLS, it could eventually rival the CL.

14th August 2023 at 9:34 am #208270That would be great for the game imo Ed, thinking about it. The club world cup already means the world to South American clubs and players, it would be brilliant to see great teams from all continents competing on more level terms.

14th August 2023 at 9:54 am #208271Yeah I think so too Lucky. Not sure Uefa would be all that pleased as it would signify a real power shift. For the fans, though, it could be great.

14th August 2023 at 11:04 am #208274Klopp won’t be the only one tbh. 275mil on 3 DMs would be scandalous though.

14th August 2023 at 12:31 pm #208281Pray there’s not a repeat of last week which in essence was an epic fail of embarrassment. Something I’ve never seen in our history.

14th August 2023 at 1:56 pm #208283Explains how Chelsea can keep spending# but here’s the bulk of it:
“These new UEFA regulations came into force earlier this summer, although they do not look retrospectively at transfers, which means Chelseaβs business that had already been concluded prior would not fall foul of regulations.
The rules, however, only apply to UEFAβs Financial Fair Play framework, which is only applicable to clubs who are competing in UEFA competitions. The Premier League has its own set of regulations that as yet do not prohibit amortising deals over longer periods. That means for this season, with regards to the Premier League, the teams that are impacted are Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Liverpool, Brighton and Aston Villa.”

14th August 2023 at 2:18 pm #208286To be fair, it’s perfectly normal to amoritise over the length of the relevant contract. I think if clubs are allowed to offer players 6+ year deals it’s rational for the depreciation to be calculated over the actual term of contract, not some arbitrary limit for the term of deprecation that has been pulled out of someone’s ass and pays no respect to the actual contract.
