I agree with Alfie, Southampton have set their price and they are under no obligation to accept less. If Liverpool cannot meet it that’s our fault not theirs.
Not on here but there’s been a lot of stomping of feet by liverpool fans demanding this transfer. Its pretty embarrassing.
Regarding Salah, his agent has said he isn’t going anywhere this season. Can see him moving next summer, he will be 32 and 1 year left on his contract and whilst his value will be lower we will still get something. He of course will still demand an obscene wage and the way he is he will still be at the top of his game. The guy is like Ronaldo, a machine.

8th August 2023 at 10:51 pm #207977Itβs one of those things that is not even a debate. Wait to one of your own players wants to leave, like Kane, and an offer not deemed acceptable is madeβ¦.

9th August 2023 at 5:54 am #207978Well we lost 2 players perhaps we didn’t want to lose; but it’s down ultimately to the player and if the offer is worth biting the hand. True, Liverpool can’t have it both ways and must be prepared to shell out.
I guess the underlying frustrating is the backwards and forwards of this and not having more than one option. FSG model of buying the more younger player when we could have signed Ruben Neves being a good box-to-box.
Hope Lavia will be worth it.

9th August 2023 at 11:17 am #207979Fsg have nothing to do with buy or selling players. Not a thing. If you need to blame someone blame JΓΆrg Schmakdtke or even Klopp himself.
Neves went following the money and I don’t think us or any other big team were ever interested in him. He seems to be loved by fans but not much by managers.

9th August 2023 at 11:30 am #207982I’ll re phrase my sentencing as the person/s accountable to transfers. FSG were mentioned as we have parameters in our policy. We need to accept that some player negotiations can consume more time and effort. They can eventually strike lucky or breakdown. My point being is have 2 or 3 alternatives. We’re not in luxury in terms of our plight of our circumstances. Clubs aren’t daft knowing they can set their fees as they wish. Hopefully by Friday, this exercise will have been worth the wait.β½οΈβ½οΈβ½οΈ

9th August 2023 at 2:39 pm #207983Who says we don’t have 2 or 3 alternatives? But should we be going for them just because our no 1 has been signed up instantly? Sorry Nil no offence but your coming across as one of those impatient fans who want a shiny new signing now!
We are not the only team struggling to get our targets, ask Chelsea! Or even Munich with Kane. The smaller teams don’t roll over regarding transfers the way the used to.

What do you think of the report that Hojlund has a stress fracture and basically has not to play too many games.
Have you been following this. First I’d heard of it today.
Can’t believe it’s that serious otherwise he wouldn’t have passed the medical._____________________________

9th August 2023 at 10:28 pm #207999I did read that Adlab but he’s been training today and I’ve also read that it’s not anything as bad as that after all. As you say, he wouldn’t have passed his medical. They need to sell papers though I suppose.

10th August 2023 at 4:45 am #2080083ps-What is going on with Gravenberch and Neuhaus?Wasn’t Liverpool meant to be interested in them, too? Both cheaper as well,I believe?

10th August 2023 at 5:15 am #208009We were tentatively linked with Neuhaus about 2 years ago but nothing since. He has had ligament damage last year and his value according to transfermarkt.de has dropped.
We are still linked with Gravenberch, but his reason to leave Munich is for more playing time. Will he get that at Liverpool? Plus he is on 150k a week.
Since the loss of Fabinho we need someone whose main role is DM and neither of those two are. We may turn to Gravenberch after a DM is purchased, but we might find ourselves in the position of going through the season without one.
The sporting director is only on a short term contract and giving how the Lavia deal has gone I think it won’t be extended.

10th August 2023 at 7:35 am #208019Ouch that Lavia one would hurt Liverpool. I thought we might nip in for him actually. We’ve followed him all season but he’s just out of our reach price wise at the moment seemingly. Nobody is likely to be able to compete with Chelsea for him.

10th August 2023 at 8:24 am #208021It will embarrass us Ed, we clearly want him but itβs being a highly embarrassing pursuit. No idea why Chelsea are bidding 48m when they want 50
Is he even the answer for us? We need a highly experienced holding player even if Lavia did come in. Heβs 19.
How we are in tgis situation with a few days to go to Chelsea shows the wheels are coming off for us. Klopp be gone soon. Itβs a joke

10th August 2023 at 8:26 am #208022We seem to be like a person who goes to an auction with a set limit, who simply won’t go over that limit at any cost, and if they come back empty handed, they pat themselves on the back praising themselves how they stuck to their guns. I’m afraid that’s how we operate. We saw a similar thing with Salah when he moved to Chelsea rather than us. You might say we had the last laugh in that, but given our current predicament in midfield, I’m not sure we have such a luxury this time.
What I think this points to then is that losing Henderson & Fabinho at the same time has left us like a rabbit in the headlights and the only player we had properly scouted in this department was one for the future, i.e. Lavia, and as I say, we simply won’t go over our limits to push it because he’s not yet an established experienced player.

10th August 2023 at 9:08 am #208027It’s a strange one. I can understand the willingness to not be seen as a team who overpays and how that public stance helps in future negotiations but the margins are so small now that Liverpool run a real risk of going into this season severely understrength unless they have someone else up their sleeve. There’s no trophy for being the most sensible transfer negotiators. As Carra said on the overlap, they got very good fees for Fabinho and Henderson, considering their decline last season. They received fees which were over the odds, so go out and spend a bit more than you normally would have, knowing you received more than you probably should have.

10th August 2023 at 9:11 am #208028This was one of my reasons of resent of Chelsea back in the early 00s. They’ve done nothing wrong, sure. In a society where everything is doom and gloom, you’d at least expect something to go good for your beloved. Were and Are Chelsea really interested or they’re just looking to gazump? Man City did this years ago with Scott Sinclair and ruined him. Why should I like my rival clubs.

10th August 2023 at 10:04 am #208034We are still a “moneyball” club. We keep trying to kid ourselves we aren’t and we’ll change (myself included) but we’re going to have to accept it.

10th August 2023 at 10:25 am #208039It’s a shambles Mikus. Perhaps we are to blame. 3/4 bids for a few million is silly. It should be loose change. We generate income from social media platforms; why not invest in players. Plus we have released financially an abundance of players no longer on the wage bill.
If we want somebody of high quality on the cheap then have more than one option. Looks like this new Sporting Director needs to bucker up his ideas or Klopp will lose his patience once and for all.
