Yeah Sean, looks like a completely mew midfield for you. Most pool fans last year seemed to think a complete overhaul in midfield was required but like you I didn’t expect to see it completely revamped in one window.
I would trust in it though because klopp knows how to build a team and I think the profile of the players bought indicate a complete change of system which is another thing many pool fans have been calling for and we saw it at back end of last season.
As banjo said, lots of variables going in to this season and so hard to predict.

2nd August 2023 at 11:37 am #207802Adlab, it’s the balance of our team that has been destroyed over last couple of years and its not a numbers thing. We do have too many players still and are trying to offload, but even in these cases it can still hold true that a few additions are needed to correct the balance.
City for example didn’t have a massive squad last year, but it was supremely balanced.
If you want to swap our numbers for your balance and quality I would bite your hand off 😆

2nd August 2023 at 11:46 am #207803Had some difficulty getting tickets for first 3 home games. Got in queue on time for sale of tickets for pool game but they sold out before I got through, managed to get one for Luton game but then no luck for next one against forest.
At this rate be lucky to see 6 home league games this year. Think I will have to make effort to go to league Cup games to build up extra loyalty points…might even start watching the women because you get loyalty points for that too!
I still think with all that we are willing to do to see games live when we can, that for those who can’t it should be broadcast on TV. Hate watching the 3pms on crappy streams, in the words of Kevin the teenager “Its so unfair!” 🤣

2nd August 2023 at 12:04 pm #207804Adlab, I was just saying. You get do defensive about city, it’s annoying.
No doubt City will bring players in and win the league.

2nd August 2023 at 12:05 pm #207805Not an IT wizard, not really a wizard of any kind to be honest, but I do love getting every single game on my big TV… even if I only watch the Spudz!!
(Mind you, got no idea how much it costs me… the misses takes care of all that and sends me an invoice at the start of each month… maybe I should read them!)

2nd August 2023 at 12:08 pm #207807Lucky we needed at least 3 midfielders before fab and hendo left. No one expected this many out goings in one season from midfield
We have lost two captains. A hell of a lot of experience. We are less then two weeks away and Curtis jones is our primary holding player. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
It’s poor planning again from us, players need time to settle. I’m expecting another shot show from us this season
Defence wasn’t protected last season and now the midfield has no proper out and out holding player. Crazy stuff

I feel for Pep sometimes having to wheel and deal as he does. Working absolute wonders on a shoestring. I think he’s only spent £1.2bil since he came to the PL! That’s before another £100mil player arrives in Gvardiol.

You forget about the Chelsea and Unied spend.
Before you know it the illustrious press will somehow have Rasmus H. coming out of United academy.
I know I go on about NET spend but that is relevant. Football is a business.
If a club sells players that are nor automatic choices or academy players and gets in say £100m and then buys an absolute top, top player for £150m who will guide the club towards a title then to me that’s good business
One of the reasons City invested so much in the Academy. If Gvardiol comes in at £86m and ar the moment we have sales of about £50m without Walker and Cancelo, perhaps that gives you a well managed club
Do you agree?_____________________________

2nd August 2023 at 12:57 pm #207812Yeah Sean I get the concern that it’s too much change at one time and not all bases yet covered.

Starting 11 looks good, just need better defensive option over Jones to replace fabinho?

2nd August 2023 at 1:22 pm #207814I think 90% of all liverpool goals will come from the right side of defence being exposed. With Konate there’s a chance he can sort it as he has pace, but Matip? You could see with BM’s 2nd goal he could run fast enough to close the angle giving Gnarby far too much space for an easy goal for Sane.

2nd August 2023 at 1:29 pm #207815Is matip right of a back 3 when you are on he ball threeps or is Robertson high and wide also leaving just 2 centre backs?

2nd August 2023 at 1:38 pm #207816According to reports Gvardiol is not playing in Leipsig friendly matches as a deal has now been agreed. This means one of our CBs, almost certainly Laporte will leave. Transfer Fee?
We need one more a acquisition to replace Mahrez Not an exact replacement as we won’t find anyone as good but we don’t have a large squad and we’ll need to fill that one hole._____________________________

2nd August 2023 at 1:49 pm #207817Matip is coming right in a 3 when in possession. Would rather have Gomez there when using such a tactic if Konate isn’t playing and restrict Matip to more conventional back 4.

2nd August 2023 at 2:10 pm #207818Yeah threeps it’s a difficult role for traditional centre backs to play as they need to have experience in defending in wide area’s and be very mobile.
I think Timber for example is perfect for this type of role and probably why arteta signed him.
Konate does seem a better fit and matip is probably best utilised as back up to virgil for the central role

2nd August 2023 at 2:11 pm #207819City are a very well run club now Adlab. No denying that. Still, they’re in a very privileged position to be able to be run so well. Lots of historic reports about City paying illegal sums of money to parents of academy prospects. Those academy prospects allow you to have tons of money coming in from selling them. So yes the net spend is low but dig beneath the surface and it doesn’t look particularly organic and that’s what I think a lot have a problem with. That and the fact you’re run by an entire state with an ulterior motive. I think constantly bringing up net spend as a City fan with the amount City have spent through the years is a bit rich (no pun intended).
Liverpool been scoring a lot in pre-season but also conceding a lot.

I see similar with chelsea Ed, we will score much more goals this season but how we can prevent them I don’t know.I think we could see a ton of goals this year, not just through the change in systems or personnel, but changes in rules too with much more football to be played per game with more added time and more leeway for physical duels also hopefully leading to better end to end games too 🤞
