He would have been involved in campaigns for sure Chucks and of course put a firm stance. I don’t know for sure whether his involvement was personal of as a then Club Captain and a representative of Liverpool.
I get why people would label him as a hypocrite in the way he’s come across.
I would be interested to see though the position of the average fan off the street if his club was government all of a sudden by a ‘sports washing company’ who devalue human rights and put money first. If Liverpool were to go down the route, I would with a heavy heart give them up. John Henry was trying to sell us out with the Super League lark. I think this is what players see first and park or brush out all the politics.
Just as a side, the way this country is going and has gone, one would jump at the chance if shown for a new life and it means earning tax-free income; all that other stuff you would just suck it up.

23rd July 2023 at 3:54 pm #207648I wonder which one of us would turn down millions for doing the same job in Saudi or the Emirates.
Most would say you wouldn’t until it became a reality.
Hypocrisy is king when it comes to money!_____________________________

23rd July 2023 at 4:20 pm #207649Newcastle buying Harvey Barnes and selling st maxim makes zero sense. They have paid 85k for Barnes and Gordon who play wide left and st maxim is miles better then both

23rd July 2023 at 4:22 pm #207651Be interesting to see what Hendersonβs excuses are. He should just come out and say itβs about money like Ruben neves did.
Heβs full of shit and no one will take anything he says seriously again. Huge pity it will be end this way

23rd July 2023 at 4:34 pm #207652I like St Maximin. We should have signed him given Luis Diaz’s head has been turned.

23rd July 2023 at 4:37 pm #207653Adlab, this is exactly what I’ve tried to convey. I wasn’t trying to defend Jordan, but was trying to level up basically trying to point out hypocrisy will eventually come out of many of us when it comes the money being waved in front of us.
Very little will remain by their values and principles.

23rd July 2023 at 4:56 pm #207654I was wondering when somebody was going to trot out that old chestnut… anyway, I’ll try and explain the issue I have with Henderson’s double standards…
I think it would be fair to assume Henderson was earning around 150k per week, including endorsments etc…, which is somewhere in the region of 150 times my salary, and propably in the region of 250 times the average salary in the UK… this would mean it would take me about 150 years to make Henderson’s yearly earnings, or 250 years for Mr. Average…
Now, 4 times my salary, would probably get me a 3/4 bedroom house compared to my current two bedroom house, probably a 2nd car so the boss and I don’t have share the 1 car we have, my the kid in private school, maybe even a nice Summer cottage over here… fair to say it would improve my life considerably..
Now we get to the Henderson family struggles on 150k a week and are in desperation of 700k a week… I guess he could swap the current 8 bedroom mansion for 12 bedrooms, get that extra Porshe in the seperate 6 car garage buy the swimming pool, an assistant for the assistant/chef/chauffer/etc.., 7/8 holidays a year when he retires instead of the 4/5 now….
So I reckon it’s just a lazy argument to suggest “you would do the same”….
Henderson could very, very easily afford to keep to his word/morals but decided not too, which makes him a Champions League level hyprocrite considering the things that he has said in the past…

23rd July 2023 at 5:15 pm #207655Chucks, what was the point of a deconstruction lol π We know it’s greed from an already enhanced lifestyle. Why don’t you site those that are enticing this rather than pick on Hendo? Lots of others have been lured. I think Ryad Mahrez one of the latest.
My point is they all pretty much fall to that sword. Why not turn the other page and say “thanks for the memories”. Take the higher ground.
They’re all mercenaries at the end of the day whether we like it or not!

23rd July 2023 at 5:34 pm #207656Can’t say I can recall any of the others being even remotely vocal about the same issues that Henderson has been in the past, there’s the difference…

23rd July 2023 at 5:52 pm #207657I with you mate on that separate matter. Perhaps at the time he was in a different mindset and headspace. Not excusing him and it’s brought out the worse instead of what should be happy memories. Not a bad bloke; just shot himself in the foot.
I think players need to be careful. The ones that I struggle to forgive are those for example involved in sexual assault and violence of females. They get acquitted and then carry on with their lives like nothing’s happened.
And then you have your Gazza’s. A lot of them are good guys, unfortunately, a lot of them are flawed too. You and I know that. The best thing therefore is to stick by the club. Hopefully, they don’t sell themselves out. That would be curtains.

23rd July 2023 at 7:04 pm #207660Rather ironically, my company did casually offer me the chance to transfer to Saudi Arabia earlier this year (for 2 year contract)… but they most certainly did not offer 4 times my salary I should add… and I managed to say no to that without too much trouble…
And to be honest, if they did offer me 4 times my salary, I would most certainly think about as it would have a huge impact on my family’s well-being as already mentioned, certainly a bigger impact than it would on a family who are already living a multi-millionaire lifestyle… I would certainly like to think I would say no in the end but can’t really answer that until the question is asked! π

23rd July 2023 at 7:34 pm #207663Chucks it’s all good mate. I’m sure once the dust is settled, Jordan will be appreciated. I just think some out there just need to get a sense of perspective.
He certainly didn’t do a Michael Owen or a Raheem Sterling; they are the ones in my eyes that stay tarnished. The company I’m employed for celebrate the Pride and stand in support for LGBT which is fine. Personally I feel they shouldn’t have to place themselves into a group; human beings ultimately and we should all tolerate and learn to get along in society.
Far too much political correctness I’ve seen unfold in this country which in itself takes away freedom. Now Banks are closing accounts of those now sharing a view that isn’t aligned to their own preset. How mad is that.
Life’s too short mate as we’ve seen right in front of our eyes. Pleasure mate in exchange of posts; good to see a debate ignited for the first time in weeks. Cheers

24th July 2023 at 10:14 am #207667Saint Maximan lacks a cutting edge and any sort of end product. Harvey Barnes is a miles better player and is an upgrade. Saint Maximan is fun to watch but if you are a Newcastle fan, he would frustrate the hell out of you.

24th July 2023 at 11:14 am #207669So the farce that is THFC continues, now quoting ” Complications with the negotiations for MVDV and Taposoba ie Levy is offering about half what the selling clubs want, no doubt we won’t get either. This has been happening for 20 years and will continue until we get new owners, Enic have no interest in a football club, it’s just a business that keeps raking in cash for Levy and Lewis.
I see the pre season is going according to plan, who the f*** decided to hold a game in Bangkok in the middle of Monsoon season in a stadium without a roof? Levy will still be ecstatic as they probably sold a shit load of shirts to the locals.
As for the Harry Kane debacle ………………_____________________________

24th July 2023 at 12:36 pm #207671Insane offer for Mbappe and for only 1 year. If we’re not already there, we’re very quickly approaching an age where football, as we know it, is gone. As soon as UEFA (as expected) remove the barrier of multi-club ownership not being able to compete in the same competitions, we’re going to see a situation where your only hope as a football fan (assuming you want to see your club do anything of note) is to sell your soul and pray for one of the oil states to come in. Seeing the likes of Henderson succumb to the lure of money and kiss goodbye to his morals is disappointing but probably inevitable and will pave the way for many more to do so. Removing that barrier for multi-club ownership is probably UEFA’s only hope in retaining the top talent but it’s a scary prospect imo.

24th July 2023 at 1:03 pm #207673That’s it Sean. They’re (mostly) all hypocrites. I know Bruno annoys a lot of people but it was great to see that he rejected multiple Saudi offers to stay at Utd. I’m sure there are a few others who have done the same, too. Jamie Vardy and Son a couple of others I’ve read who supposedly turned down moves there. It really does look bad on Henderson though considering his previous actions and words. As it would on Neville if Qatar took over Utd. Hopefully that will never happen. There are whispers now that the Glazers might be delaying things in the hope Uefa remove that multi-club ownership barrier. I really dread the can of worms that will open. I don’t want my club being a plaything for an oil state.
