Not that it’s ever going to go away, but there really does seem to be a lot of “interweb” nonsense about a parting of the ways in the summer in the managerial hotseat… and naturally, Poncho is probably the favourite to replace Conte… to be honest, I can’t think of another mananger I would rather have, certainly not one that’s a realistic target… a shame but as it seems to be more for personal reasons (Conte’s not exactly had a great year personally!) I think it would be for the best…
Having said that, there is a part of me that thinks he’s not that far away from putting together a pretty decent squad, one or 2 top draw CB’s and a new goalie, and I reckon we’re almost there…
Or maybe he’ll think one more year… see if he can push us over the edge as it were (in a good way!)
Certainly don’t want Steve Cooper… that’s got a “Potter” all over it, we’ll go about 4 steps back before we even think about going forward!

7th March 2023 at 9:01 am #205116Yeah looking ominous now Chucky
The Antonio Conte era is coming to an end. Neither side wants a new deal. So what comes next? Tottenham don’t want a repeat of 2021. My piece looking at Pochettino, Tuchel and other possibles. https://t.co/8eNVOQEoZC

I think it might be Tuchel to follow the Spurs trend of going for ex Chelsea managers.

7th March 2023 at 9:09 am #205117Yeap… like to think Conte know’s he’s only 2/3 signings away from having a pretty decent 1st 11 /squad and with all the ups and downs this year, having one last crack at it… that would be my ideal scenario.
But the big decision for Levy & Co., if there is a parting of the ways, do they go for another “top draw” manager and hope a couple of tweaks will put us over the edge, or go for more of a “re-build” manager like the Brighton fella, and take 2 steps back (as I’m sure a few players will leave if Conte goes, like Harry and Romero!)…
Like I said, I think getting Poncho back is the best bet, maybe Tommy Tickle as 2nd choice (great manager and will have a point to prove after the Jammy Dodgers bun-fight!)
Going to be an interesting summer and not in a most enjoyable way!

7th March 2023 at 10:08 am #205122Which Brighton manager do you mean? The current one? I don’t think De Zerbi leaves Brighton for Spurs to be honest. I think he’s next in line for a regular CL team. That’s not to disrespect Spurs but Brighton are arguably a better team at the moment and a better place for a manager like him to thrive. I fancy him to go to Chelsea which ultimately frees up Potter, who could replace De Zerbi and go back to Brighton potentially. Poch might be your best shout. It’s surely him or Tuchel unless you go for someone completely different like Gallardo, formerly of River Plate who will be looking for a big job.

7th March 2023 at 10:26 am #205126Have to disagree with that one, cyber chum, I think the world and his dog realize that Brighton to a “CL” club is a bit of a jump… I can’t see Jammy Dodgers making that mistake again, and I very much doubt any of Pool, YooUtd, Innocent City would go for him… the biggest clubs he might get a look in at would be Spuds or the Bone Saw Boys (and they’re not changing any time soon!)…
I think he would jump at the chance if I’m honest.

7th March 2023 at 10:43 am #205131I don’t expect you to say anything different as a Spurs fan, Chucky. Just as I’d expect you to disagree with me that Kane might see Kane to Utd as a step up. I can’t help but feel he would see Brighton to Spurs as one almost CL club to another. I don’t think either would expect to feature much in the top 4 in the coming years with the emergence of Arsenal and Newcastle’s new found wealth on top of the expected return of Liverpool to the mix. A mix that already has City cemented for decades to come and us knocking on the door again.

That’s why we play the game!

7th March 2023 at 11:03 am #205139You know us Spuds have qualified for the CL 5 of the last 7 years, right?

7th March 2023 at 11:05 am #205140I do. Do you think if we did a poll to see how many think they’ll qualify for the next 5 out of 7, many would say yes? I’d expect Brighton to have as much of a chance as Spurs to do so. Again, that’s a compliment to Brighton more than any criticism of Spurs.

7th March 2023 at 11:13 am #205144I’ll take your poll and rise you a “How many times do you think Brighton will finish above Spurs in the next 7 years?” and suggest it would be only Brighton fans who would vote anything other than 0.
Brighton, unfortunately for them and their fans, are always going to have their best players and/or managers cherry picked… they’ll never get the chance to build a TOP4 team. 🙂

7th March 2023 at 11:18 am #205147No, that’s fair enough, though I’d argue there’s not much difference between 5th down to 10th or so if you’re not getting CL anyway. I still think they’ll finish above you this season 😄

14th March 2023 at 8:33 am #205357Considering we’ve been linked with about 452 managers over the last week, would be bloody hilarious if Conte ends up staying!!
For what it’s worth,
1) Poncho… still think he didn’t deserve to sacked!
2) Enrique… good manager and “big” enough I think to get all our top players to stay…
3) Tommy Tickle… good amanger with a point to prove and probably the best of the rest!_____________________________

14th March 2023 at 9:38 am #205359Really not sure about the Vincent Kompany rumors… that goes down in the “big, big, big gamble” column and very likely see a few “stars” leave due to not wanting to hang around for a 2/3 year rebuild…
Plus, if he does he any good, he’ll bugger off to City the moment they click their fingers!

15th March 2023 at 8:08 am #205375Been spending far too long thinking about a new manager combined with the squad he has to play with (including all the “loan” players coming back)… that really isn’t a bad squad at all, there are some quality players there (although some do have some serious issues with consistancy!)… anyway, leaning towards the idea of the new manager being a 4-3-3 type manager, we have a really good squad for that with the need of too many additions (GK and CB being to two positions crying out for some top draw signings)…

15th March 2023 at 1:38 pm #205377Hi Chucks, I’m not particularly bothered who we get, as Danny boy will still be there sticking his nose into transfers or club signings as we call it, Spence ???
I think Porro will come good and I have high hopes for Destiny Odugie at LWB, just need two CBs as Dier, Davies, Lenlet , Sanchez and Tanganga all not good enough for the 1st team..
A new manager might be able to find the MF creator we need in either Gil, Ndombele or Lo Celso there’s enough talent in there, we have enough MF stoppers already. Up front we are Ok , the money needs to be spent wisely without any Levy buys to use all the ££££’s up._____________________________

15th March 2023 at 2:12 pm #205378Hard to disagree with that, fellow Spudlover, ideally a new GK (like, although not really believe, the rumors about Oblak for around 35m!)… another top-draw CB (that Kim fella ticks my boxes) and Maddison would do me…
It’s weird, when on form, Lo Cecil, N-Dumb and Regulion can be top draw, get them back and a tune out of them we’d be laughing I think! Not counting my chickens until I see this Destiny fella kick a ball or two but if he’s as good as the reports say, I’m looking forward to to seeing him.
Still not sure about Gil being suited to the rough and tumble of the PL if I’m honest, looked great in some of the European games, but that’s a different kettle of fish altogether. I’d rather have Lamela back! (Him and Richy up top would sure be entertaining!)
The thing with Danny-boy, he’s a bit “damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t”… he gets involved and gets told to keep him nose out, doesn’t get involved and he’ll be accused of “not caring”…
