Disappointing period for Spurs fans WTP.
Realistically Levy is merely a figurehead with a limited share holding with Joe Lewis holding the majority of shares and all the power.
The one positive though imo is that as you say Joe Lewis is only interested in profit and he’s nobody’s fool he will know that there’s no point in having a brilliant shiny new ground and a declining team to play in it ultimately that won’t return Spurs a profit and neither will it make it an attractive option for someone to buy. So I can see Lewis being prepared to do something about it.
The potential problem waiting in the wings though is that Joe Lewis is 82 and much may rest going forwards on ultimately what his family want to do with Spurs.
At the end of the day though for better or worse we’re all at the beck and call of our owners from the biggest Clubs to the smallest.

11th November 2019 at 8:25 pm #52610It’s a number of factors, mainly to do with the transfers, more specifically the lack of transfers going out that I think has “hampered” this season more than anything, combined with all 3 of the 4 signings not really having a chance to kick a ball in anger yet… with all 3 of them returning along with Juan the 4th, I fully expect to see some interesting line-ups after yet another break. Can’t do any worse than Juan and Wee Ryan given a run with the FB spots, along with Lo Cecil with Wee Erik being a relegated to the bench.
The big question is can he shift them in January?
4th might be stretching it a bit, but we should still get Europa…

11th November 2019 at 8:26 pm #5261127, you make good points regarding our Joe ,but I honestly believe if the club gets ££m’s for the naming rights he will sell up rather quickly, especially as you point out he’s 82.
I’ve enjoyed the ride these last 4 years and I’d be a liar if I didn’t say I want more, but I believe now is the time for Poch to bow out with dignity rather than get dragged down to where we came from.

12th November 2019 at 7:42 am #52631Reckon you chaps might be being a bit harsh on Old Man Joe. The bloke keeps himself to himself and any guessing on what he may or may not do is pure speculation, be it your good self’s or the clickbaiting-fishwrappers brigade. Of course, you both may be right, but you both could also be as far from the truth as possible too… only time will tell on that one!!
As for the mess on the field, still think it’s more the players than Poncho, and considering what he’s done at the club during his time there, I think he’s earned to right to try and get Spud 2.0 up and running. As mentioned before, N-Dumb looks a decent player, Lo Cecil has hardly had a chance to do anything yet, and I fell of my chair when Wee Ryan actually kicked a ball… π and it looks like the lad from Leeds will be coming back in January too.
He needs to get rid of the contract rebels sooner than later (easier said than done, I know), and maybe another fresh body or two (again, easier said than done!)… but I still say he deserves the chance…
Besides, other than Eddie Howe, who could we realistically get to replace him??

12th November 2019 at 10:54 am #52651Chucky, don’t get me wrong I would like to stick with Poch but wonder if his heart is still in it.
If and when Jan, Christian ,Wanyama, Danny Rose & Toby go, we will need to buy 2 CB’s of quality. I’m hoping Lo Celso will be our new playmaker and I like Disco and Ndombele together. If he has faith in Foyth and Sess that would offset Aurier and Rose moving on.Throw
Getting Dele back to his form of 2 years ago would be like a new signing, lots of if’s and buts .
There is a nucleus of a very good team but only if the club spend big again , will Poch stick around for MK 2 , who knows ????_____________________________

12th November 2019 at 11:11 am #52653I think he will, he performed miracles (to a degree!) with what he’s had with regards to budget and Top 4’s over the last few years while the new training ground and stadium was causing all sorts of trouble. Now it’s time to reap a little bit of the benefits. Like you say, we’ve been very close to something over the last few seasons, bit of luck here and there and who know’s what could have been in the trophy cabinet.
The key I think is getting that Famous Five out the club sooner than later, stop them from stinking up the place. Lo Cecil, N-Dumb and Disco are decent for a midfield (as much as I love Disco, we could improve there for sure, perhaps somebody who shoots?? π ), and Dele, Sonny and Sir Harry up top with Moura as back-up aren’t too shabby either. Reckon we’ll be seeing the old Dele soon, he’s showing signs of getting some of that form back.
Back our back 5, that’s where the real nightmare is… Gazza in goal, Sanchez and another at CB, and they might as well play the two of us at FB, we couldn’t be any worse. Certainly worth giving Juan the Forth and Wee Ryan a run there, really can’t be any worse than what we’ve tried so far this season.
We just need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot (unless Disco is shooting, then the next door neighbors cat is bang in trouble!).

12th November 2019 at 12:45 pm #52663Mav, can’t argue with Spurs going backwards but ‘Arry going up Norf, nah .
I have high hopes that Lo Celso will give him the service that Eriksen can’t be arsed to give. We need Foyth to have a run at RB where he plays for Argentina and get Sess on the left, we haven’t had fullbacks bombing forward since Walker and Rose an age ago.
I’m expecting to finish 6/7th at best._____________________________

12th November 2019 at 3:35 pm #52678Shiney, hear what you say about Poch.
Short term I think you’ve got to sort out the rebels one way or another, try and get some of the new players up and running and bring a couple more in.
Medium to long term it’s difficult to second guess Joe Lewis.
Best of luck anyway and I hope things are improving for you on the health front too. Cheers 9’s

12th November 2019 at 4:34 pm #52681Shiney-Why not? Kane would have won tons of trophies had he move up norff the last cple of years, and I mean City.He should seriously consider his options come the end of the season,IMHO.Also think that Poch has taken Spuds as far as he can,and a new change/direction should be considered in the summer.

12th November 2019 at 4:57 pm #52684Yeah I tend to agree that Poch has done what he can there. It’s so rare that a manager stays beyond 6 years these days and there’s a reason that’s the case. Eventually, a manager just outstays his welcome and a change is needed for a club to move forward.
Poch hasn’t suddenly become a poor manager over night. His season this season reminds me very much of Klopp’s last season at Dortmund and it went OK for him after leaving there didn’t it?
He’s hinted many times about leaving so you have to wonder if he’s just lost the hunger for that particular job now and that feeling is making its way down to the players.
I’m pretty sure he’ll have a mini revival ala Klopp but ultimately will leave at the end of the season. Where to? No idea. Madrid possibly if they don’t win the CL

12th November 2019 at 8:27 pm #52702I do not see Kane going to City, if he has any sense he will go to Europe, other than staying where he is and Spurs getting some support in. Utd may fancy him though but Liverpool, like City…no. My guess is he will stay where he is.

12th November 2019 at 9:29 pm #52704Gβday lads & lassies, sorry to buy in on your page but Iβve got a mate I work with whoβs from the spuds area & his family are still season ticket holders. Weβve had a bit of banter going in recent seasons & I genuinely had you lot as being up there challenging us for a top 2 spot this season. I asked him why he thinks your not going so well & he thinks itβs because a few of your top players have not committed to the club & their contracts are getting down. Add to that all the talk from the start of the season about Poch also not committing & maybe real being an option. Do you think this is about eight? Whatever it is itβs sad because you were certainly heading on the right direction & looked like a title wasnβt unrealistic.
Take care all._____________________________

19th November 2019 at 3:45 pm #53174It seems the vultures are hovering over N17, the press are stirring the shit as usual, they seem convinced Poch is on his way and have a shortlist of 106 to replace him,and Harry Kane is in advanced talks with every club on earth.
Whatever is going on at the club started before a ball had been kicked this season , us the lifelong supporters may never know as that isn’t Poch or Levy’s style. I find it hard to lay all the blame on Daniel Levy who has built a training ground to die for and one of the best stadiums in the world, something had to give and that’s the money to buy the sort of players the club so badly needed .
We are what we are , if we aren’t good enough to get a European place so be it , after 57 years I’m used to it, yup we are going backwards._____________________________

19th November 2019 at 5:05 pm #53179Good post Shiney but I guess the media are just reacting to all the circumstances some of which you’ve highlighted. 14th place and closer to the bottom three rather than the top 4 isn’t helping either.
Nothing that a winning run can’t rectify though, but you do get the feeling that this might be the beginning of the end for Poch?
Obviously depending on who Spurs could attract I don’t think that would necessarily be the end of the world as different eyes and different voices might well help Spurs kick on again.
11 points off of top 4 is a big gap to close but it’s not impossible and 3 points of the top 6 means that EL football remains very achievable.
Whatever happens it would be a difficult parting because of the size of the compensation Spurs would be required to pay Poch if they do decide to move on and it would put Levy’s famed negotiating skills to the test.
