Pretty strong line-up on the shortlist…
Emma Radacanu
Adam Peaty
Tom Daley
Raheem Sterling
Tyson Fury
Sarah StoreyI think my vote goes to Emma Radacanu, Tom Daley, Adam Peaty, Tyson Fury, Sarah Storey and Raheem Sterling in that order. Thought it might be interesting to see other people’s votes on here, and if you can be arsed, do a 1 to 6 like I have done.

13th December 2021 at 4:20 pm #191257Is Sterling really on that list? π
Don’t know enough about them all to judge to be honest.

13th December 2021 at 4:33 pm #191258‘Is Sterling really on that list?’
Yeah, Lucky, I was a little surprised. Had a good year for England, but until recently was struggling to get game time for his club, and therefore is nailed on for No. 6 for me.
You’re not having a vote then?

13th December 2021 at 4:38 pm #191259I only know half the names bud, but would agree young Emma must be good shout for number 1, have fury up there too but again not fair really as storey and peaty completely unknowns to me and I am based against daly because I think synchronised diving is a joke π

13th December 2021 at 5:13 pm #191264Has to be Raducanu for me. Can’t understand Sterling at all. Fury deserves one but doesn’t want it seemingly.

13th December 2021 at 5:23 pm #191266Ed, did you see the way linekar sucker punched him on that a few years back asking him to apologise for expressing his views, which were basically his Christian beliefs?
Very poor imo and fury has asked not to even be nominated ever since.
I’m not a religious person and disagree with a lot of fury’s views but who do the bloody BBC and its PC twerps like linekar think they are?
I tell you one thing for sure, if it was a Muslim British champion they wouldn’t have dared asked him to apologise for his religious beliefs! No chance in hell

13th December 2021 at 5:39 pm #191269Rahemm Sterling?? Tom Daley?? One of them is famous for diving exploits and the other is… err… Tom Daley!!
Surprised a certain Mr. Rasford isn’t up there for his off-field antics… if you have to have a footballer up there, he’d be the one I’d vote for.
That has to be the “weakest” list I’ve seen for decades if I’m honest!

13th December 2021 at 5:57 pm #191275Probably Emma Radacanu for me. But I hate the hype the media puts on some of these people. Not saying she doesn’t deserve it on that list, but we’re too quick to dish out many of these awards and honours before people have even achieved a great deal. We seem to build people up to knock them down. I’d suggest it would be better to host it only every 2 years.

13th December 2021 at 5:59 pm #191277Mikus, don’t know how I would possibly keep my head on the ground if I was as talented as Emma and as successful at such a young age bud

13th December 2021 at 6:02 pm #191279Indeed Lucky, I just hope she is able to stay grounded. But the pressure & build up at Wimbledon next year will be through the roof.

13th December 2021 at 8:56 pm #191289But Mikus, you can’t say she hasn’t achieved much. She may very well never achieve as much again in her career, but to win a Grand Slam at the age of 17 (18?) as a qualifier is an achievement of the highest order…surely.

13th December 2021 at 9:14 pm #191290HH, it was indeed an outstanding achievement. But she’s barely started her career and the media have already put her on a pedestal. You may say that’s inevitable given what happened, but our media don’t half get obsessional about people, and I just fear for her as it’s very hard to keep your feet on the ground in such circumstances. I’ll be delighted if she’s able to stay grounded and have much more success to come.
As I say, if you only awarded the trophy every two years rather than one, I think it might not be a bad thing in that it may allow people to keep a bit more off the radar. But we love the celebrity culture now, so it won’t happen.
