I think these are the most ins and outs we have had in one window.

16th July 2022 at 3:28 pm #196982Very disappointing that four players missing the US tour as apparently they have not had Covid jabs. Highly irresponsible imo.
Not just for themselves but more importantly for others. A real dim view. Stones, Laporte, Foden and Gundogan._____________________________

16th July 2022 at 7:42 pm #196983Adlab..yes I am pleased Ake is staying…for now…Chelsea may have the cash at Christmas though but hope he stays because he wants to, if not…just move on.
ITV news…Been watching a few weeks now, I do not think they do it well and they have some bias as well but not as blatant as BBC. The latest from BBC is from next year they are sharing news with other countries, England at daytime, USA and others in the evening…that I will not watch. The woke people have certainly running them now, about time we withdrew Tax payers money completely if they want to paddle there own canoe

Chelsea didn’t pull out of the deal for Ake because they lacked the cash they pulled out because they didn’t agree with City’s valuation of him.

17th July 2022 at 1:56 pm #196986Plus we would have to find a replacement for Ake which would not be easy

17th July 2022 at 4:15 pm #196988Nine…you got one bargin from us last week, now they wanted another!!!! The difference between City bottom price and Chelsea top price I bet was not that significant for a player they really wanted!!!!! I have a smile on my face Nine. I think Ake is a good player, underrated by many , as I have said before. He is not at the same level as others but better than some

18th July 2022 at 5:34 am #196989Brian, Sterling’s price was a reflection of only one year being left on his contract and the fact that he wanted to move on.
Re Ake it takes three parties to agree a transfer and City wanted more than Chelsea thought Ake was worth, a difference of Β£10m for instance is generally considered small beer by most and under the previous administration the transfer would have probably gone through the new administration though won’t pay out more than they think a players worth.
My point however was merely that it wasn’t because Chelsea didn’t have the cash as you suggested and as continued Chelsea activity in the transfer market proves it was a question of valuation.
I understand your views on Ake he’s a useful player and you would have to replace him which wouldn’t be easy. Cheers 9’s

18th July 2022 at 10:40 am #196990Fascinating thread for those interested in the situation at Barcelona.
#FCBarcelona have announced the signing of Rapinha from #LUFC for β¬58m, while a deal to acquire Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich for β¬50m is agreed in principle. The question is how can they possibly afford these players, given their well-documented financial problems?

18th July 2022 at 11:57 am #196991Interesting read that Mikus, as ever from the Swiss Ramble.
Adlab, no idea re Martinez. I don’t know much about him to be honest. Always worries me buying players from that league and this one is no different. His height concerns me but I do wonder if he’s been brought in to play defensive midfield. He’s a CB by trade but has played defensive mid at times for Ajax. That would make a lot more sense considering the players we already have at CB and the lack of someone in the midfield to play that role. Sounds like the club wanted Pau Torres but backed the manager in going for Martinez. Ten Hag has already confirmed Maguire will be captain and Varane will surely play when fit so I’m struggling to see why they’d spend such a large amount of a limited budget on a backup, hence why I think he’ll play as the deepest midfielder when everyone’s fit. But who knows…

18th July 2022 at 3:14 pm #196993Ed. You might be right. Holding midfielder. Better than what they have? Who is there now?
Fred? Mctominay (Sp)? Matic gone_____________________________

20th July 2022 at 8:09 am #197012Never mind Liverpool and Chelsea, Spurs and United are going to be a big threat to the top 3, they buying smart, already have top players and have 2 brilliant managers that know exactly what they doing unlike their previous managers. Mark my words.

20th July 2022 at 8:41 am #197014I agree about Spurs. I think they’ll be a real threat this season. I’m quite surprised a the level at which Levy has backed Conte. I think they’ll be challenging for 3rd for sure.
I think Utd are much more in transition and will take longer to implement the new style. I’m hopeful for the long term but it will be very hit and miss this season I feel. We’ll get caught out a lot playing the high line and I think De Gea will struggle with this new style. A top 4 place this season has to be the aim but above all else, there has to be clear signs of progress. Can’t read anything at all into pre-season. It’s all about starting well in the league.
If I had to pick my top 6 now, it would be:
1. City
2. Liverpool
3. Spurs
4. Chelsea
5. Utd
6. ArsenalI think it will be split into 3 pairs of teams fighting it out. City and Liverpool battling for 1st/2nd. Chelsea and Spurs battling for 3rd/4th and Utd and Arsenal battling for 5th/6th albeit with Leicester and West Ham very close behind.

20th July 2022 at 9:03 am #197015I just checked the odds and that’s exactly the order they sit in the betting as things stand albeit with Newcastle sandwiched in between the top 6 and the next two I had down for 7/8th (west Ham and Leicester).
I’d be quite surprised if it deviated all that much from the above aside from within the pairs I mentioned. Still lots of signings left to do though so the odds and predictions could change based on that.

20th July 2022 at 1:23 pm #197019Barca are one billion in debt and owe over Β£100m in transfer fees to 19 different Clubs. Their transfer deals are being paid for over an elongated period because Barca donβt have the cash they are also looking to raise circa Β£70m from the De Jong transfer who they allegedly personally owe Β£17m to.
They can also only use a percentage of the monies theyβve raised by selling off their assets.
This is something UEFA should be involving themselves in, itβs a mess that has the potential to become an even bigger mess.

20th July 2022 at 5:10 pm #197023Barca and RM are so keen to change every rule to work around the mess they are in. They also, in my opinion, will blame the EFL for everything that does not work for them
