Is De Ligt that good? I know he was highly rated at Ajax but, like Donny and Ziyech, seems to have struggled for game time since moving on from Ajax (which in itself worries me massively in that we’re linked to so many Ajax/Eredevisie players). Bayern seemingly in for De Ligt now too.

7th July 2022 at 1:36 pm #196906We talk about some of our PL clubs being a mess, mine included, but what an absolute disaster Barca have become. The De Jong deal supposedly held up by £17mil of wages owed to him by Barca which they can’t afford to pay him, yet they’re trying desperately to sign Lewandowski for what £30-£40mil who turns 34 next month.
We should have walked away from the De Jong deal as soon as it became clear it wasn’t straightforward to get done.

7th July 2022 at 6:18 pm #196908How are Barca getting away with it though Ed?
They continue to buy players but are financially in a mess? Surely rules are being broken but nothing be done?

8th July 2022 at 7:38 am #196913As well as selling the naming rights of the Stadium to Spotify Barca have also sold off a percentage of their future TV and merchandising revenues to raise some immediate funds.

8th July 2022 at 7:43 pm #196929Not sure why Chelsea want to sign Ake. He is a good backup player but not imo Top class.
If this deal happens:
In Hasland £51m, Phillips £45m Ortega (keeper) free
Out Jesus £45m, Sterling £55m, Ake£40m??, Players to Southampton £22m Porro £8m ,Itakura £5m,
Thats £91m out and a possible £175m in so I would think there will be further additions_____________________________

8th July 2022 at 7:48 pm #196930Manchester City are reportedly ready to meet Brighton’s asking price and launch a £45m bid for full-back Marc Cucurella.
The player has four years left on his contract after enjoying a terrific debut Premier League season. Graham Potter would rather not lose the full-back, hence his club’s steep price tag.

8th July 2022 at 10:23 pm #196932Adlab it is wrong to simply quote the transfer fees mentioned in the press. Haaland’s dad got a reported 17m, his agent 30m (not sure what happened here due to his death).
For example just looking at transfer fees has Nunez more expensive than Haaland and a number of outlets have already used this to make a mockery of Liverpool’s transfer and get clicks. However when you factor in fees and wages over the length of the contract Haaland is 50m more expensive despite having one year less contract.
Conversely, selling a player for 40m does not mean City get 40m. Someone like Sterling will get several million that City have to pay him as he did not request a transfer. This is part of the modern day football’s contract called the loyalty bonus. Messi for example got a 2nd payment of 39m when he left Barca as it was in his contract and he did not request to leave. Pogba got 3.8m when he left Utd recently.

9th July 2022 at 10:22 am #196935Threeps. Yep of course you are correct and all deals are different. Maybe we should look at those quoted figures as the “gross” amounts but still valid for a sort of comparison.
Anyhow we will still be told in the press that we are spending loads but.?.its ok for others!

9th July 2022 at 5:39 pm #196936I disagree Adlab. I think the press have been very kind to City in recent times. As I said before, the Pogba quoted fee has always included agents fees and we were absolutely hammered for paying Raoila what we did when we got Pogba. I can’t understand why but the press seem to make very little mention of the agents fees in the Haaland deal which is baffling considering the unprecedented size of them. It’s extremely deceptive to say City got Haaland for £51mil.
