True Mikus, after those stand out games re Old Trafford, versus City and Watford which was on another level, he dropped off for me. Then all that contract stuff came out in the wash and basically played it’s part of uncertainty. Valuable assist to Mane though start of the second half at the Etihad- Kept us in the race!

2nd July 2022 at 5:46 pm #196825He is one of the top goalscorers in the world. I know we won the last two championships without Aguero but imagine if he had been fully fit. You can’t replace a great goalscorer very easily which is why Liverpool were prepared to break their wage rules and rightly so imo.
PS another one the press can’t throw at us!!!!

2nd July 2022 at 6:13 pm #196826They don’t come much more reliable than Ornstein. Have to say, don’t begrudge him a move one bit. He is Mr Champions League and deserves the right to make it 20 consecutive seasons in Europe’s Premier competition. We’d have been replacing him next summer anyway so it’s hardly surprising.
π¨ Cristiano Ronaldo has told Man Utd he wants to leave this summer, as @DuncanCastles reports. 37yo said to love club but wants to play CL + fight for top honours in final stage of career – doesnβt feel likely at #MUFC. Napoli among suitors @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/rFxa8i1pRO

2nd July 2022 at 6:52 pm #196827Adlab, just to be clear, it’s not so much that I think keeping Salah is the wrong decision, more the bending of the club towards him, and you don’t tend to see this kind of thing at City or Chelsea, who are less reliant on individuals and tend to use players rather than players using them. Alas, we’ve become too dependent on Salah and his goals which I think put him in the driving seat over negotiations.

2nd July 2022 at 6:55 pm #196828Ed, I think he completely used you for the season. Now you’re out the CL, you’re disposable. Maybe not a bad thing for Ten Hag who no longer has to worry about managing him.

2nd July 2022 at 7:01 pm #196829I wouldn’t go that far Mikus. You say he used us but he could have easily gone to City and won more trophies. It’s clear he has love for the club but it’s also clear that his legacy and his desire to become the greatest ever footballer is bigger than any admiration he may have for any club. Ronaldo deserves to be in the CL. He’s the record scorer and he wants to preserve that record. I have full respect for that dedication. If more of our players had his dedication, we’d be in a much better place.

2nd July 2022 at 7:05 pm #196830Surely, he must have had a no-CL get out clause?!
π¨ View from Manchester United is that Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale and remains under contract with them for another year @TheAthleticUK #MUFC https://t.co/h22nf0iZqJ
— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) July 2, 2022
#MUFC have been working on belief Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at club for 2022-23, hence leaving Liverpool to Darwin Nunez.
Erik ten Hag could get creative but a Ronaldo departure would put United very light at centre-forward. Targets in other positions being advanced currently.

2nd July 2022 at 7:09 pm #196831Staggering how much wages come off last year’s wage bill if Ronaldo joins Pogba, Matic, Mata, Lingard, Henderson, Cavani (and probably a few more) in leaving the club. Probably looking at a saving of about Β£70mil a year. Just Pogba,Ronaldo and Cavani is probably around Β£1,2mil a week.

2nd July 2022 at 7:28 pm #196833Not sure he’d have got the same game time at City under Pep and don’t think that would have gone down well with him. The problems at Utd have been long in the making and lie quite deep. When he suddenly became available last summer, I think Utd saw him as an easy fix to send the club further up the table but didn’t think much exactly how it would affect the balance of the team. Yes there were other problems at the club but I think Ronaldo was basically a big sticking plaster the club tried to put on the club when the problems were deeper and hence he got his rewards out of it with his goals and stature but Utd didn’t.

2nd July 2022 at 7:34 pm #196834Oh I don’t disagree that it was a spur of the moment thing. Nobody signs a 37 Yr old as anything more than a quick fix. He’s a born winner and you won’t find many Utd fans who begrudge him a move to continue his incredible CL legacy. To suggest he used Utd though is wide of the mark IMO. He could have easily had more chance of adding to his trophy haul by going elsewhere or staying put.

2nd July 2022 at 7:38 pm #196835All players use clubs to some extent. And the bigger the player, the more power they have to make moves happen.

3rd July 2022 at 7:18 am #196837Nobody knows the exact structure and size of Salah’s increase I’ve seen Β£350k pw muted and performance bonuses to play a part?
“PS another one the press canβt throw at us!!!!

3rd July 2022 at 10:28 am #196839My brother was saying something along those lines; 350-375. Then it’s add-ons. I have to assume it’s a win-win and FSG are shrewd as we know.

4th July 2022 at 12:37 pm #196849Ed. Looks like Eriksen. Good signing? Class player. Is he what is needed. Where does he play? Very similar to FernΓ‘ndez.
Like to be a fly on the wall at the medical. I think I’m right in saying that his heart condition doesn’t allow him to play in some European leagues. But imo would be a very good signing even though he is past 30._____________________________

4th July 2022 at 1:10 pm #196853I think it’s an essential squad signing Adlab rather than someone who’s going to come in and radically change anything or expect to start every week. We’ve lost Pogba, Lingard, Matic and Mata so we’re in desperate need of depth. His Ajax connections help. The more players we have familiar with the new manager’s style, the quicker the transition (Eriksen trained with Ajax after his heart incident).

4th July 2022 at 1:33 pm #196854My mate messaged on whats app about today being the first official day back training for players. Guess what, apparently Ronaldo didn’t show today due to family reasons.
Hmmm….

4th July 2022 at 1:47 pm #196855I’m honestly surprised it’s taken this long Nil. I’ve been saying for months Ronaldo would definitely be off if we didn’t get CL. That CL goal record isn’t something he’s prepared to let slip. So the fact he wants out isn’t at all surprising even if the timing is very unfortunate.
