30th June 2022 at 6:41 am #196802There’s not really much on the market to get excited about so all these names being bandied about are generally just slightly over average players going for a lot of tosh and none really worth that kind of money but clubs have to refresh their squads so they have little options. It’s a terrible situation.

30th June 2022 at 8:49 am #196804I don’t quite understand why Spurs want Richarlison. Where does he play when Song and Kate are fit?
Perhaps it’s about creating a big squad for all the games including CL.
It looks like we are about to sell another couple of academy players for about Β£20m. If we sell Jesus, Sterling and academy players that will be in excess of Β£100m. Maybe even more than we will spend although I doubt it as I think there will be at least another incoming.
The academy has certainly paid for itself with Foden and Palmer coming through into the first team.
We get little credit for that._____________________________

30th June 2022 at 9:15 am #196805Adlab, come off it. Foden is widely acknowledged as one of the most exciting young players to come through and establish themselves in the PL in recent times!

30th June 2022 at 11:53 am #196806Palmer is going to be a very big player in the future. Plenty of talent there.

30th June 2022 at 3:34 pm #196809What I was saying chaps, probably badly, is that we don’t get enough credit for the very big investment into the academy producing some very good (some English) players. We are following the approach of United of Old and also Chelsea.
It had always been the plan as part of being established as a top team. And now we are seeing revenue coming in from graduates of the academy which helps to pay for continuing development and outside FFP_____________________________

2nd July 2022 at 12:15 am #196813Looks like Mike Dean is back for another season. It appears only as a dedicated VAR ref though.

2nd July 2022 at 8:12 am #196815Harvey Vale captained England to victory in the European Under-19 Championship final on Friday night and turned provider for the match-winning goal in extra-time…
The 18-year-old delivered a brilliant inswinging cross for the gameβs decisive moments 108 minutes. Well done to all.

2nd July 2022 at 10:58 am #196817I have to say at the moment in time, some part of me doesn’t feel too ecstatic over Salah signing a new deal. Wouldn’t some part of me make me a hypocrite when I am speaking about money other clubs are spending and when for example, tv subscriptions should be cheaper? Those huge revenues contribute towards a person’s salary right?
Yet a part of me when I came across my whats app message went “Yes!”
He’ll be scoring goals. We’ll feel with elation and security that he’s going to be with us longer and he’ll be feeling the big wedge he’s on.
Not the Liverpool way. I feel we’ve made a bit of an exception on this occasion. I have read 400k A Week.

2nd July 2022 at 12:06 pm #196819C67, that’s the thing though, he’s not really retired from Refereeing but just moving to another area so he’s still going to be involved.
My concern would be the sheer lack of new breed Referees. I don’t particularly care where they come from but that they have the competencies and integrity.

2nd July 2022 at 12:09 pm #196820I share some of your scepticism nil over Salah. Look there’s no doubting his talent and achievements, and in the first half of last season he played like the no.1 player in the world. But there are also times I think where he plays far too selfishly and it’s as though he’s more interested in his own records than the club’s. Some may say that’s inevitable with the fame and centre of attention he’s become at the club. I think the way to view Salah is that he’s a hard working winger who exceeds expectations in the goals he scores but I don’t think he’s quite up there with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Drogba, Henry, etc. He flirts with genius but for me isn’t consistently genius to be considered an all time great. And his record in finals alludes to this I think. On the other side, he’s an outstanding league player with top stats and is rarely injured. Hopefully the new competition will help keep him on his toes because I just worry the hype has gone to his head in recent years, particularly with that comment before the Madrid game of ‘having a score to settle.’

2nd July 2022 at 12:50 pm #196821Mikus, Wholeheartedly agree with everything you say mate. Superb Post and would give it a 100 likes if I could.
I do wonder soon whether Mane will disclose his relationship with Salah in public if there ever was an underlying friction between them.

2nd July 2022 at 12:58 pm #196822Mikus. From afar you are probably correct. But his stats are fantastic. Where would you be without him?
Β£375,000 a week is being suggested. That’s Β£19.5m a year! Wow! Are these players worth that?_____________________________

2nd July 2022 at 2:39 pm #196823Adlab, as I say, he’s an outstanding league player with top stats. I just think his ego has taken off a bit too much with the hype and needs reining in a bit. He’s a great player but not an all time great for me. Klopp’s statement about wanting Salah to be the face of the project sort of indicates to me that the club is bending a bit too much towards the player.
