Yeah I think part of the problem is that Utd have too many good players but not enough great players. This means we have a hard time keeping everyone happy because nobody is really playing well enough to nail down a position, leaving Jose with little choice but to chop and change just to keep everyone happy.
For me, Mctominay, Matic and Pogba need to become a settled midfield 3 and the centre back pairing needs establishing (which admittedly has been difficult due to injuries). After that, I don’t mind some degree of chopping and changing.
Simply not good enough

14th March 2018 at 10:15 am #18008Bit of an odd one, have to day I’m surprised at how Sanchez has performed since he joined and Pogba in recent months. Rashford started last night. Did he get any service or chances?

14th March 2018 at 11:50 am #18010Iโm not sure if Sanchez is trying to much. Heโs certainly working hard but heโs not playing well
As Alfie said, bizarre why Jose changed some positions last night.
Astounded they went out. They were well out played by an average side

14th March 2018 at 12:06 pm #18011Agree Sean, Sevilla are a poor side, but this is football end of the day. Anything can happen in the knockout stages of any competition. Before the game started, I told my brother in law that Sevilla have probably got a better midfield duo than United in Banega and N’Zonzi. Matic is a good player, but having Fellaini alongside him is like covering 2 positions.
Some fans are calling for Jose’s head after this. They have easily forgotten the under investment during SAF final couple of seasons, a botched transition and 2 woeful appointments, resulting in 3 years of mismanagement. Thinking Jose would just come in and change things instantly is naive. United have got the highest points tally in year, scoring more goals and if it was not for City having a freak season, this title race would be a bit more open.
I agree the manner United went out was unacceptable, but overall there is progress.

14th March 2018 at 12:24 pm #18013AnonymousSean – I don’t watch a lot of other teams play these days, I just don’t have the time, so I don’t know what Sanchez was like at Arsenal. However, I would guess that a lot of play went through him at Arsenal, where as we play with four attackers, 5 if you include Pogba in a two man midfield, and that means Sanchez will get less of the ball than he was used to.
He often makes mistakes with his passing – and I gather he always has done that – as he tries that more difficult pass than what others might have attempted, but they are always going astray, and it seems obvious to everyone watching that the other players are just not used to it. When you play on the counter you need to protect the ball when you have it.
At the start of the season we had more possession, and maybe he would have performed better for us in those games when losing the ball wouldn’t have been so much of a problem, but he does stand out at the moment.
He needs to be taken out of the team IMO, bring him on in games and see if he can get his confidence back and be ready to start with a bang next season.
I’d pick McTominay and Matic in midfeld and Martial, Pogba and Rashford to play behind Lukaku.
I’d also take the opportunity to switch Young to RB and get Shaw some games, but that won’t happen as Valencia is the captain. I just can’t see Valencia there next season and I think we need to plan ahead as much as possible.

14th March 2018 at 3:13 pm #18033Shaw should be starting Alfie. Not sure whatโs going on there but a fully fit Shaw is up there with rose as the best English left full.
Sanchez just hasnโt got going. He scored a lot of goals for aresnal. Still early days though

14th March 2018 at 3:16 pm #18034Has won it, I agree anything can happen in any match mate. Iโm just really siprised after Saturdayโs performance, utd looked so limp.
With Fellaini In beside Matic were is the creativity supposed to come from? Why moved Rashford right when he was excellent coming from the left on sat?
As much as Joseโs ideas won Saturdayโs gander then his tactics last night lost it

14th March 2018 at 4:06 pm #18041Touch of class from Mourinho after the game anyway. Nice to see
Jose Mourinho went into the Sevilla dressing room after the game last night – he had asked for permission – to congratulate them and wish them best of luck for rest of competition. The gesture was appreciated.

14th March 2018 at 5:15 pm #18044He needs to sell the players he doesn’t want, but to do that, he needs to be clear in his own head as to what he wants.
It seems like a 2 tier selection system to me implemented. You have one which for the first time was spot-on against Liverpool, and then we go back to picking players and arranging formations that rubs supporters’ backs the wrong way or one is scratching his head to come find some sort of a logical explanation.
He’s winner, I have no doubt there, but he needs to perhaps assess himself and accept things and time have moved on and he’s not the Manager he was when at Porto and/or his first spell with Chelsea.
I notice a little too his way of stagnating certain individuals from playing and progressing is spilling onto Old Trafford – maybe a clash of personalities. He’s a control freak to me and I saw from the outside a lot of this with Joe Cole in the role he wanted to play, at Chelsea.

14th March 2018 at 7:28 pm #18051Pagan-I agree mate, but this United team looks like a bunch of complete strangers who have never seen each-other.Add to that the fact that signing Sanchez has completely ruined any harmony this team had,and we are left with`a team bereft of any cohesion, unity, and its the manager to be blamed!
