Would that be the same AWB who made a whopping 16 starts last season and who they’re trying to flog or a different one? Not sounding like a regular 1st starter to me… 🙂
Okay, Wee Lukey made a few more starts but how many of those were at CB?

10th August 2023 at 6:55 am #208013We’re not trying to sell AWB Chucky. It looked for a long time like he didn’t have enough going forwards to be our RB but he did improved a lot last season and is likely to be our starting RB. Alfie was rightly questioning thr critique of AWB’s defending, which I fully agree with. I’d replace him if we could afford it but not because of his defending. I don’t think there are many better at that than him. Shaw I wouldn’t swap for any other LB in the league, not least because he deputised excellently for Martinez at CB when required.

10th August 2023 at 7:04 am #208014As for Greenwood, I’m fully expecting him to come back into the fold, unfortunately. He’s had a baby with the same girl and is training again. I’d love Utd to make a statement and sack him but we all know that won’t happen. Look at Arsenal with Partey and West Ham with Zouma. Even the incidents of racism from Terry and Suarez. When faced with situations which would, under normal circumstances, lead to dismissal from a job, clubs simply can’t/won’t sack players who are that valuable. Now I’m not comparing incidents of racism to what Greenwood did (which was far worse) but you only need to look at how the whole Partey thing has been swept under the carpet at Arsenal. It’s very disappointing and I’ll never cheer a goal of his but I’m not the least bit surprised.

10th August 2023 at 7:06 am #208015Wasn’t knocking AWB as a player, but I didn’t have him down as a “first choice” as I didn’t think Tag fancied him for the reasons you’ve stated.

10th August 2023 at 7:10 am #208016The Greenwood one is a shame (putting it mildly!)… we all know he’ll stay etc… and we all know we’ll be hearing the “must be innocent as he wasn’t found guilty” excuse from certain sections… he’ll get a bit of abuse from the fans for sure, but they’ll soon get bored with it…

10th August 2023 at 7:14 am #208017As for best LB in the League, wait until you see our new lad, he’s going to be a bit of a handful at both ends of the pitch… (and now I’ve put the kiss of death on him!)

10th August 2023 at 7:29 am #208018I didn’t directly say he’s the best. Just that I wouldn’t swap him for anyone in the league. In part due to his versatility. With the possible exception of Robertson (who seems to have declined in the last year or so anyway), names of top LBs in the league aren’t springing to mind though. I think Shaw is a better LB than Chilwell and Zinchenko anyway. Can’t think of any others. City don’t have any top traditional LBs.

10th August 2023 at 8:23 am #208020Sorry Sean, missed the Greenwood question.
I think it’s 50/50 on him. He will get dogs abuse all season and he is very young so it will be touch and go if he gets over it enough to play to his level.
If he can return to something like his level he will score plenty of goals. Though if he returns it will be a phased return imo.
I think they will announce the plan soon.
Chucky, AWB was out of favour at the start of the season, but came back and retained his place. He will start much more regularly this season and is likely to be first choice again. As everyone says, best one on one defender in the league. If we can see that it is likely that the coaches at the club do too.

10th August 2023 at 8:31 am #208024Ye agree on greenwood Ed but I’m actually shocked if utd take him back. Is he really worth all the media scrutiny? The absolute package that comes with him now. Utd will really get hit from all angles about this. It will become a major distraction. Just not worth in my view but I get what you are saying

10th August 2023 at 8:57 am #208025Oh I don’t think it’s worth it either Sean. But I’m just not surprised if that’s what happens. Look at Partey though. That soon died down. I’m sure Greenwood will get a much rougher ride than Partey anyway. Still, I’m pleased that Utd acted swiftly in suspending him and, by all acounts, they’re doing a thorough investigation including speaking to the women’s team. sponsors, fan groups etc. No doubt they’ve spoken to Greenwood and his missus in depth, too. Partey was allowed to just carry on playing with Arteta even bemoaning what a tough time Partey had been going through. The way both clubs have dealt with the situations this far are worlds apart.

10th August 2023 at 9:05 am #208026Ye utd acted brilliantly but they will all be undone if they take him back. Look at Liverpool with saurez. There was absolute murder for us sporting him
And rightly so. We fell apart then after being 4th. It ruined Kenny’s 2nd spell.Greenwood was caught on tape. It’s clear the person he is. I heard a bit about Partey? Is he still waiting to be charged?

10th August 2023 at 9:15 am #208029Wouldn’t rule out Villa to finish in the Top 6. Unai really rocked with results last term. A few new extra players brought in and who knows.

10th August 2023 at 9:15 am #208030Part of me completely agrees with you Sean. Another part of me thinks Utd have done the right thing so far. They’ve allowed the courts to do their job. He’s been cleared of all charges. They’ve clearly not taken any decision lightly and are conducting their own very thorough investigation. He now has a baby with this girl. So, the girl and seemingly her family have forgiven him. Should Utd sack him anyway? If he was rubbish, he’d have been sacked straight away. Utd see him as a potential £100mil asset and that’s a huge call to make. I would have liked us to have sacked him but I want to hear the full story first and the result of the internal investigation. It’s going to massively derail our season if he comes back I think.

Why don’t these people just predict Man City to win for the rest of this decade? They might as well.

10th August 2023 at 9:23 am #208032I see what you are saying, Sean and Ed, but I think it will be opposition fans who give him stick. The press won’t, as he has not been found guilty of anything, and seemingly has got back together with the woman in question.
The fans will be on his back, and I think Utd fans are split on it too.
I think Partey was charged, and is waiting a court date but that one was kept out of the papers, unlike Mendy of City, so the papers haven’t even named him. Arsenal tried to sell him this summer and it seems other clubs won’t sign him until that one is sorted.

10th August 2023 at 10:11 am #208035Her and her family have forgiven “Multi-Millionaire” Greenwood, have they, and she’s popped up a
cash-cowbaby? Why am I not surprised at that one…If he did that to my daughter nobody would have to worry about his football career as he wouldn’t have any fooking knee-caps…

10th August 2023 at 10:16 am #208036Ah I think the press will tear him apart Alfie as the video is as clear as day as what he’s done and what kind of person he is. It can’t be defended in my view. I’ll be surprised if they give him an easy ride mate.
We will wait and see. Let’s see what he has to say aswell.

10th August 2023 at 10:19 am #208037Ed he was not cleared of charges. They were dropped as the woman changed her statement. Big difference
The video is as clear as day. It really is and I don’t know it can be defended. He’s shown what kind of a character he is
It will divide fans. Opposing fans will crucify him and utd fans will welcome him back after a few goals. All us fans are fickle
I didn’t agree with saurez at all but I still celebrated his goals
