12th July 2018 at 1:56 pm #23956Anonymousthere was a degree of sarcasm.
kane was given offside. if he passed to sterling instead of shooting, he still would’ve been offside.
although maybe if sterling ran away from goal he could’ve taken the defenders with him and opened it up more. i mean thats what he does brilliantly.

12th July 2018 at 2:08 pm #23958Chucky, if you check all of my posts unlike others I’ve criticised no one and gone out of my way to lay no blame on any individuals so that’s nonsense!
What I originally said was “you wonder what might have been had Kane crossed the ball for Sterling in the first half.”
I’m not sure it was offside or that it would have been called as an offside had Kane passed it to Sterling which was the general view including the commentators and pundits who felt Kane would have been better doing.
I’ll leave you all to it as I’ve got no desire to get caught up in a blame debate we won as a team and we lost as a team!!!

12th July 2018 at 2:13 pm #23962Anonymous999 – and then in your next post you said – “Kane should have squared it to Sterling” – despite the fact it was offside and wouldn’t have counted.
So the only player you have blamed is the most likely golden boot winner and scorer of half of englands goals.

12th July 2018 at 2:35 pm #23963Paxton, ” Kane should have squared it to Sterling” was an opinion not a criticism and I haven’t blamed anyone!
But that’s it from me!

12th July 2018 at 3:49 pm #23969My final comment on England. The starkness of this defeat was that Croatia had a strong midfield and we did not.It was clear to see. Our plan was to go to route 1, where they were constantly beaten in the ariel battle and plan B was play it sideways and back to the keeper, even in the dieing minutes they were passing it back. When crosses did come in we rarely had more than two anywhere neat Croatia box, therefore always outnumbered In saying all that, we tried, just not good enough and Southgate did a good enough job so we can look to the future, he just did not have the quality available. For Euro’s Pickford, Trippier, Stones, Maguire Walker(?) Sterling, Ali (?) Lingard, Rashford(?)Kane would be retained in a squad. I hope we have strong talent coming through before then Loftus Cheek, Foden, and others but I have yet to see a Modric, Silva, KDB and a few others as creative players,I cannot see one anyhere in the league at the moment. Good luck to Croatia they deserve place in the final

12th July 2018 at 4:25 pm #23971Brian. Spot on. Our midfield is not quite good enough. Something I suggested before the start. I would have taken Shelvey or even Wilshire to offer some creativity.
Still its been fun for a month!_____________________________

12th July 2018 at 4:59 pm #23974F*****g football! Need a break from football for a bit after last night. Not interested in blaming anybody as nobody was outstanding and nobody was terrible. We just weren’t good enough after half time as a team.
I think once I’m fully over it, I’ll be pleased we’ve made it as far as we did but it’s still too soon for that. Absolutely gutted.

12th July 2018 at 5:13 pm #23977For me, the players whose stock has risen over the last month are, in no particular order, Maguire, Trippier, Pickford and Stones. I think Henderson has exceeded most people’s expectations (maybe only because they were so low from so many beforehand not me though!). As for Sterling, I thought he did ok on the whole, I just wish he could finish. First half last night, I thought he was excellent but you do need 2 players who can score in the front 2 not just one. I thought Dele Alli and Walker had pretty poor tournaments, while Lingard Young and Kane were ok, but no more. And before Pax and Chucky accuse me of having a witch hunt against Kane, it’s not that. I’ve seen him play much, much better for Spurs than he did for England. Of course he did not have a poor tournament, but 3 of his goals were penalties, expertly taken I may add, but his overall play was no better than ok for me.
But the tournament for me, and England particularly, has re-ignited my waning interest in international football, and for that credit goes to Southgate and his staff. They made it a pleasure to watch and support our national team again. There appear to be no stars, they appear to be a good bunch of lads on the whole, with few egos and unpleasant personalities like Terry, Cole and Rooney dominating the squad.
I’ve enjoyed it, but FIFA, please get rid of this stupid 3rd place play-off game – what a waste of time, and frankly, who cares!

12th July 2018 at 5:40 pm #23981HH… think you’ll find most of us Spuds (and I mentioned it a week or two back!) reckon Kane was pretty poor all tourney (and Ali for that matter!). Kane hasn’t looked 100% since that ankle injury around March, came back too quickly for the chase for the top 4…
As for Trippier, cast your minds back to when us Spuds weren’t overly excited about Walker walking… we were saying then Trippier was a better footballer, Walker was just quicker… (combine the two, then you’ll have one heck of a player!).

12th July 2018 at 5:46 pm #23982AnonymousHH – no accusing going on here. i said i think kane had a decent tournament – no more, no less. people can say he scored 3 penalties but ronaldo missed, messi missed, modric missed. you still have to put it away. take away the penalties and hes still second top scorer in the competition. but in general i expected much more from him. not sure if its down to fitness or the system but either way he wasnt the kane we see at spurs. i’ve called out the players i think weren’t good enough and one of them was a spurs player so there’s no agenda here – just call it how i see it.
my issue with 999 was he says hes not blaming anyone, then clearly blamed one player and then denied it. but that’s him all over.

12th July 2018 at 6:01 pm #23984Paxton, that is complete nonsense in not one of my posts have I blamed any England player or criticised any England player which is the complete opposite to you.
I merely gave an opinion that had Kane crossed the ball to Sterling things could have turned out differently why do you have to get into so much confrontation and conflict it’s completely uneccessary.
And if my opinions are so poor as you are suggesting how is it I’ve got the most likes to what I post on the forum.
There really is no need for any of this mate and if things carry on in this vein I will have to seriously consider throwing the towel in on here.
Let’s just try and discuss things without confrontation and conflict!

12th July 2018 at 6:57 pm #23985It pains me that the French are likley to win the world cup. Just so hope Croatia can do a job on them. Still gutted about last night. What could have Southgate done differently? Brought on Delph next to Henderson to bolster the midfield. As that’s where Modric strangled the game for us in the second half. Hindsight possibly.

12th July 2018 at 7:03 pm #23986Anonymous“how is it I’ve got the most likes to what I post on the forum.”
because you post more than anyone else! 8.9% like rate. 16% for me – maybe i should give the people what they want and post more often.
i don’t have an issue with criticism. if i feel someone deserves criticism, i will say it. what i won’t say is no one is to blame and then pick out one player and their decision in a specific moment and saying who knows what would’ve been had they not done in your opinion the wrong thing. you are clever the way you word things but to me it seems like you singled one player out for the reason england went out. thats the way it comes across.

12th July 2018 at 7:13 pm #23988AnonymousWhat’s wrong with a 3rf place game. It gives fringe players a chance to show what they can do. Both Belgium and England could have gone through if they choose better players. If you not interested don’t watch the game but still will be a few million watching.
