Congrats to Croatia. Much better team over 120 minutes. England were very good in the first half but couldn’t carry the momentum in to the second half and Croatia completely dictated the tempo. Modric is just something else and was the difference. I don’t care what people say about sterling’s running; on the ball he was useless again. Problem is, rashford was even worse. Never mind. Squad should be proud to have got this far but in the end just didn’t create enough, which was the story throughout the tournament. Some of the players have done themselves proud and Southgate as well.

Too bad for England. I thought you had the game in the palm of your hands after the first half. But Croatia stepped up their game and won deservedly in the end.
Basically midfield was the big difference. Croatia won because Modric, Rakitic and Perisic are proper, creative ball players compared to Henderson, Lingard, Dier and Alli Who all look pedestrian in comparison.
And I have to agree with Paxton on Sterling. He just ran and ran and had No end product. His passing and finishing was catastrophic. And at this level just creating space for others just isn’t enough. Mandzukic creates space for his teammates too. But he’s actually able to do something constructive with the ball as well. That’s why Croatia will play in the final._____________________________

I thought Sterling did a job tonight and Croatia were very wary of his pace.
There were one of two players who didn’t quite play up to their capabilities imo and not just in this game but now’s not the right time to dig them out and potentially get stuck into inter club rivalries.
Overall we fell just short had we taken our chances in the first half things might have been different but we went further than probably any of us thought possible in being 20 mins from a World Cup Final.
In terms of Modric I thought he was top quality tonight.

Those people that keep uttering ‘It’s coming home’ don’t know how they damage the team by making those kind of statements. Anyway England need creative players behind Kane, anyone can run but it’s what you do with the ball at your feet that ultimately counts.

Why sit back at 1 up? Full backs pushed back. England were really on top. Kill the game
Good tournament for England overall. Pickford abd Maguire best players for me. Really like Southgate. Came across really well. Real pity that the two goals were basic defending

On the bright side England is still a very young team. They’ll learn and get better. And already much more of a real team than the so-called golden generation. With a bit more experience and a bit more flair in midfield, this team could do even better at the Euro in two years.

Jim – I’m well aware there is more than scoring and sterling demonstrated some of that. But as an attacking player you also need to be productive with the ball. His first touch was poor, his passing was poor, his general play was poor and it was in every game. Its so frustrating because for city he is brilliant. At international level you can’t just be a good at running without the ball.

Hard for Kane to shine with so little service. England’s downfall was being technically inferior in midfield.
Sterling and a few others still have some obvious developing points.But to get to the semis and still have the chance to go home with a medal is a very good achievement. Especially for such a young squad.

Jim – why is it biased? You think I have an agenda against city or sterling? Wind your neck in! The fact you have reacted this way shows how biased you are and that you can’t be reasoned with. Sterling played 5 games In this World Cup and all you can say he did is run. Woopdeefuckingdoo!!!! Kane may not have had a great tournament but he’s still gonna come back to England with the golden boot. The fact you’ve brought Kane in to it because he’s a spurs player shows how ridiculous you are being just because you’re upset a Man City player failed miserably in every game he played in.

One easy pass sterling should have made to put Lingard in just after Croatia scored.
His running off the ball caused issues in the 1st half. His touch and final ball were poor. He had a poor wc

Midfield is where nearly every game is won or lost. Ali has the ability but failed to show it. Lindigard and Sterling do a lot of running but in those positions you need creativity. That’s the truth and while Southgate got a lot of praise he showed stubbornness also by not playing at least one more creative player behind Kane who looked lost last night. I am afraid I don’t go with what a lot are saying. To be properly competitive this starting 11 needs at least 4 or 5 changes. I have spoken.

Come on cyber chums, let’s not fall out with a coulda woulda shoulda debate. We got further than I think most of us thought, started off strong and perhaps should have had one or two more before half-time, then I think experience told. Croatia played smarter football in the 2nd half and extra time, and overall deserved to win.
It’s always easy for us armchair warriors to point fingers, dish out some blame, and all that jazz. We’ve all got out own thoughts and opinions (personally, I thought Sterling was our most effective player last night but ran himself into the ground! Would have put Rashford on for either Ali or Lingard, and let them “share” the chasing duties myself for the rest of the game.)

Chuck Criticism is the foundation of a debate what else is there to discuss. Southgate could have done better his selections in critical areas were poor as were his substitutes in time and quality. He did not really know what to do in time of crisis. England’s easy path was the only reason for their semifinal grant and to be honest they never even played well against the lesser teams.
