Let’s not forget that the reason the route to the Semi Final was easier is because Sweden knocked out Germany and along the way in qualifying they eliminated Italy and beat France too.

Nine who is to say we couldn’t have knocked out Germany. Italy wernt good enough to get to the finals that’s how poor they were. Totally irrelevant points imo.

Jim, based on what we saw of Germany we might well of eliminated them but my point really was that Sweden are no slouches considering who’ve they’ve beaten in qualifying and in the Finals.Cheers 999

It’s been an entertaining and a bit odd tournament so far with some of the big boys failing – Germany, Spain, Argentina and to an extent Brazil. But Belgium and France are worthy semifinalists. So are England, of course, but to me it seems Belgium and France are a bit stronger. Anything can happen though. As for Croatia vs. Russia, my pick would be the Croatians. They play the better football too, IMO. I’m sure the England fans would prefer to play Russia though.
Still happy to see Sweden knocked out. Had they progressed to the semis it would have been a loss for football. Of course any team should do what works best for them, but the Swedish team is just so defensive and unimaginative that it almost hurts to watch them. Even if you don’t have a truckload of flair players, you should still try to create something. In a world cup it’s better to burn out than to fade away. They may have reached the quarter finals which is a good achievement, but they will soon be forgotten because of their crap style of football. At the end of the day you can only defend that kind of defensive approach until the first crucial defeat. If you play that boring football and still lose, then it has all been in vain. The Swedes are not the only ones to disappoint though. Denmark were bad as well in general. I think we had 20 minutes of domination against the Aussies and then we played a good second half and extra time against Croatia only to be undone because of poor penalties.
