Whilst I’m a big fan of Messi and have even preferred him over Ronaldo in recent years, Simeone hit the nail on the head here for me. You could put Ronaldo in any team in any generation and he’d break records. Messi is probably a better player when you find that perfect blend of players to play with him but that’s not always as simple as it sounds.

But did you read/see what the great Maradona said about the rest of the Argentina players after that game against Croatia? Don`t have a link to show but he said something along those lines: I hope there was/is a brawl withing the changing rooms because without Messi they are utter shite,and I agree completely!

Besides, any team with Aguero, Mascherano, Otamendi, Higuain, Dybala, Di Maria etc should have no complaints about a lack of quality in the side. Portugal are hardly brimming with superstar players either

Messi is still the best by far so stop trying to convince yourself and others. Their manager doesn’t know what his doing. Higuain and Dyabla have hardly played he preferred players that play in the lower class Argentinan league while Icardi one of the world’s deadliest strikers was not even selected for the squad. There are others too.
