This has to be the most ridiculous thing that has ever been introduced. You base the position on who fits the best for the role, not what skin tone they are.

9th January 2018 at 3:02 pm #11805Good luck to the FA in finding someone to interview for Southgate’s job who is English and has top league experience.
I’m sure the FA are doing it for all the right reasons but they look a bit ridiculous given their above criteria.

9th January 2018 at 3:12 pm #11808What annoys me the most is Sol Campbell coming on national TV talking about lack of black managers and how he has not been given a chance, to later reveal he does not even any coaching badges.

9th January 2018 at 3:17 pm #11810Ince has no top league managerial experience but I’m sure they’ll find someone to interview to meet the rule and then appoint someone else.

9th January 2018 at 5:19 pm #11847cm, the current FA requirement is that whoever manages England must be English and have managed at a top level which seems to rule pretty much everybody out.

9th January 2018 at 5:32 pm #11853Chris Hughton was born in Forest gate, doesn’t that make him English?

10th January 2018 at 8:36 am #11928Anonymoussay for example england change their manager every year for 5 years. Paul Ince (just and example) gets interviewed for the job 5 times but doesnt get it. does he then cry discrimination? surely if hes being interviewed they see him as a decent candidate but 5 times he tried and 5 times failed. did he fail because he’s black? no. will that matter? probably not.
how the rooney rule isnt seen as discrimination in its own right i will never understand.

10th January 2018 at 8:46 am #11929Paxo… what you need to consider also is the very simple matter the Rooney Rule came from ‘Merica, where relations between various ethic groups has a considerably more murky history than it has had in Blightly (not saying anybody is innocent here, just saying certain country’s have a worse “record” in that department). But, yes, I would agree it’s all a bit pointless, guaranteeing interviews to people based on the color of their skin rather than the accomplishments on their CV.

10th January 2018 at 12:51 pm #11939The Rooney Rule itself is racist in my opinion.

10th January 2018 at 4:55 pm #11960This Racism thing will never be solved on appointments. the problem is bigger than that. i think Britain is the best in Europe. i can’t remember rampant racism allegations in England. compare to Italy and Spain. i’m not a fan of giving a position to some one because they are black/white or Asian. A position should be given on merit. but that said i do understand why the FA is eager to adopt that rule. the issue isn’t handing the job to them. the issue is giving them enough chance for them to fight. and one of that is giving them a chance to be interviewed. Paul Ince had no top flight experience. did Guardiola had a top flight experience when he took over at Barcelona? no. but i think Britain is doing very well in countering racism. and i’m pleased that the FA is taking every racism issue seriously whether they are proven or not is another matter. there is nothing wrong is taking affirmative action to encourage a certain part of the society to be involved in something. it may not be the manager’s position, it can be a member among the coaching staff.

10th January 2018 at 5:11 pm #11965So the FA need to appoint a new England manager, they will obviously have a list of criteria the applicants will need to have, ie to have proven success at the highest level. They donβt have time to interview all applicants so they have to choose three. Pep, Jose, Conte and Ince apply, who doesnβt get an interview?
Do they go by nationality, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, English, or are they doing it by skin colour?
Do the applicants have to meet all the criteria or do they have to interview someone from a minority background even if they donβt fulfill the criteria?
You can see what the FA are trying to do but they are in danger of going down the βSouth Parkβ route….Pagan
