22nd December 2017 at 9:46 am #9474I never came forward if Suarez was guilty of Diving and maybe by nature that was just my red specs thinking he just made most of an opportunity.
It’s individuals like Rivaldo back in the day. I have to say David Ginola was one of the worse in the PL.

22nd December 2017 at 9:54 am #9476And I’d add Costa and Drogba to that list.
On the Gray incident re Tuesday, that reminded me exactly of Sturridge at Old Trafford when ‘clipped’ by Vidic. Vidic was sent off. Another incident occurred in the same game which was a Pen, but the Ref didn’t give it knowing his error of judgement on the previous.
Karma paid off and Gerrard didn’t score a hat-trick of Pens.

22nd December 2017 at 10:10 am #9482It’s almost got itself in a mess football and one of the reasons is opinion!!! I’ll expand. Refs have different opinions on fouls, on yellow cards on red cards on time wasting etc. They can’t do that, every ref has to ref the same way every single game. The rules are there for the ref to adhere to but why do some break or ignore them?
Or how many times have you been to a game when the game kicks off and the opposition keep leaving a foot in but the ref does nothing about it. They continue and then, usually the Second half, one of your players leaves a foot in and whack yellow card. I’ve seen that happen so many times in untrue.
I honestly can’t think of one ref that I think is of a worthy standard. I can think of loads that aren’t though. I don’t think none of us will believe until the system changes and refs are asked to explain decisions. They can mess up massively and simply go home and forget about it. We all go into meltdown and conspiracy theory and they don’t care. They can also make the same mistakes over and over and nothing happens to them. That’s one reason why I have zero respect for refs and believe they are all a joke.

22nd December 2017 at 10:12 am #9485Gerrard in his autobiography confirms he dived to win penalties etc. But we should be looking forwards not backwards.
I think we need to judge the success of the newly introduced retrospective bans for diving at the end of the season currently there are clearly teething problems.
Appointing a panel for the season would provide greater consistency and moving to majority decision would ensure the likes of Gray would be unlikely to escape punishment.

22nd December 2017 at 10:47 am #9489The Referee makes a call based on real-time and his judgement in line with the rules. I don’t know whether this would be deemed as conflict if decisions in greater quantity was overruled by somebody on a Monitor, but that’s just me playing devil’s advocate and perhaps painting a dim view.
If you have a team of officials that can work together, yes we would see a fairer game and marginal instances given the correct call.
In reality over the course of 90 mins whenever there are talking points aired on forums, at best, there is no greater than 2. So maybe the Refereeing is not as bad as one perceives.

22nd December 2017 at 10:49 am #9492The problem the poor sods in black have is they get pillared by the armchair warriors at home or in the studio when they get something wrong, magnified a million times and viewed from a zillion angles, it’s very rare when they actually get any credit…

22nd December 2017 at 10:56 am #9495Too right Chucky.
So-called pundits in the studio too champion diving as part of the game and yet they are the same individuals on another day that will be yelling for Video Tech.

22nd December 2017 at 10:58 am #9496My lad refs, when he comes off we usually have a chat about the game and any decisions he makes, the question I alway ask is what did you see when……
His answer always ties in with the action he took, which although if seen from a different angle he may have done something else.
I personally would like to see refs asked the same question after games, this needs to be done without tv replays and it turning into a witch hunt, and we may get to see the rationale behind their decisions….Pagan

22nd December 2017 at 11:11 am #9498I would love to see a Ref come out after a game and just “mock” a player for cheating, he’ll be the hero that footballs needs…

22nd December 2017 at 11:20 am #9503There’s decent money in Refereeing but all depends on the scale of a the Leagues and how many matches you get.
