21st December 2017 at 10:56 am #9416They made the ruling that the league cup is a MAJOR trophy and so is the Charity Shield so from now on they are top draw silverware because the swamp dwellers said so

21st December 2017 at 11:06 am #9417Diving, exaggeration and general cheating, until they become unacceptable are here to stay. The players themselves are quite happy to accept it as part of the game otherwise they wouldn’t do it.
The clubs obviously believe that the gains of cheating outweigh the potential punishments as they themselves would be trying to stamp it out.
Pundits/ex players go out of there way to try and justify it, trying desperately to preserve the integrity of the game.
The governing body has bought in retrospective punishment, but that’s not working.
The whole game is currently in denial, until they admit there is a problem we’re stuck with it. Retrospective action is paying lip service to the problem, at the moment they’re treating the symptom not the cause. Until the whole game comes together to stamp it out we’re stuck with it…..Pagan

21st December 2017 at 1:07 pm #9420Chuckles, it’s an epidemic in pro football, but when you see it creeping into kids football it’s really quite worrying, I’ve seen it at under 11 and 12, and more worryingly in girls football…..Pagan

21st December 2017 at 1:46 pm #9423Nobody can point another finger at another player/club without looking like a hypocrite, nor than anybody claim a player from their own club is innocent without the masses laughing. As you all say, and I completely agree, it’s a depressing part of the game these days and everybody is guilty as charged!

21st December 2017 at 2:18 pm #9428Anonymousthe problem with retrospective action (when they decide to take it) is that the team that was wronged in the first place, remain wronged. the advantage goes to the team being played in the upcoming fixtures as the player will be suspended. the only way it will be taken seriously is if the team is punished and there are points deductions. team that cheats -2 points, team that is wronged +2 points.

21st December 2017 at 2:29 pm #9430Paxton, not enough of a punishment there, you get three point for a win that comes from a dive, you go back to one point which was as you were before the incident.
The club is responsible for the conduct of its players, it’s also responsible for the coaching of its players. I would suggest the team gets punished, but I would go for -2 points for the first offence, -4 for the next and so on. Make the punishment outweigh potential gains….Pagan

21st December 2017 at 2:58 pm #9436Chuckles, and that’s why we have a problem, justifying diving/exaggeration by saying it’s ok as another player is doing it…..Pagan

21st December 2017 at 4:09 pm #9438The only punishment that would deter would simply be an automatic loss for a cheat (or 3-0 award to the “victims”). Don’t do all this go to the score beforehand nonsense. Anybody caught cheating at any stage of the game, regardless of the score, losses the game… end of story, that will stop the buggers!
And a 3 game ban for the cheater while I’m at it!

21st December 2017 at 4:15 pm #9440I definitely don’t agree with any points deductions for diving that’s a significant step too far.
It’s not something I can see happening anyway.
The fix on players escaping action for diving having been cited is an easy one have one panel to look at all alleged diving across the whole season because you won’t get consistency from different people looking at different situations.
As I understand it the panel voted 2 to 1 in favour of Gray being guilty of diving so just change unanimous to majority and its job done and have the same review panel for the season to ensure consistency.

21st December 2017 at 4:27 pm #9443So I’ve checked cyber space and there’s the Swansea debut one, foul for me, there’s the Everton chop that’s near the half way line, defo got caught by Schneiderlin and the Southampton chop which was 100% a foul so I’m standing by my comments, Aguero is a stand out in these times.
Watch him go over like a kipper on Saturday now

21st December 2017 at 4:27 pm #9444999, so the cheats win? what is the cost of relegation? The cost of missing out on promotion, The cost or reward for being/not being in the CL, ultimately that could be the cost to a team, compare that to a player not being available for a game or two if three people can’t agree on something, let’s face it the Gray decision doesn’t fill you full of confidence.
Hand on heart, do you think the clubs encourage diving/exaggeration
Do you think it’s coached into players to exaggerate the merest contact to deceive the officials
Do you think Gray got a pat on the back after the game?
Treat the symptom, not the cause, make it unacceptable to cheat….Pagan

21st December 2017 at 4:34 pm #9445Very impassioned Pagan but it won’t happen mate and it would have to go right the way across football which would include FIFA and UEFA competitions too.
If we had one panel for continuity and majority decisions Gray would have been banned it’s that simple.
