17th April 2018 at 4:06 pm #20522To much emphasis on spend ability. First and foremost is the coaching and players who knit as a team. Why all this discussion on spend and money is not the point, the money is available, not just to City but others as well, City can only have the same amount of players in the squad as any other team and even they may not be the best. How many players in all the leagues are available, bearing in mind, everyone has a price> City cannot monoplise that. Discussions are better centered around how squads fit together, this year we have seen Liverpool gelling together, Burnley the same Utd playing as strangers Arsenal falling away the mystery of Spurs squad not doing better all this is no money centered. I remember earlier Wenger saying he could not compete with City spend, maybe not, but does he have to and given the money would his choice of players work….it has not done so far Utd is a classic example, they have spent a significant amount of money, yet it has not worked out…so far…and from what my thought is with Jose it is always going to be difficult as he is already talking about a lot of his squad going which means more new players to fit in. As a fan, I thought it refreshing to see Bournemouth, Burnley and Huddersfield having a go this season the league needs this as much as the top 4 whoever they may be So, if any of you were Manager and could pick a squad of 25 how many from your current team? Keeping in mind you do not want prima donna’s but a team

17th April 2018 at 4:26 pm #20529Eddy… question is who’s going to be shitter on Saturday? My Spuds aren’t quite “right” since the Old Lady gang-banged us… all looking a bit lethargic to be honest. Hoping for a Brighton spanking tonight, rumors are Poncho is going for 3 at the back (and giving Toby a run-out) with Son/Lucas playing wingback roles… a bloody attacking line-up for sure…
I was quoting in Euro’s just to make it look good Goose… tried in in Indian Ruppees but computer ran out of 0’s…. π

17th April 2018 at 4:44 pm #20530Chucky, tough one. Both sides not on their best form at the moment after poor showings at the weekend. I don’t like the fact it’s at Wembley, whether it was agreed a long time ago or not, it’s clearly an advantage for Spurs. I think we might just nick it though. I want to see how we perform midweek though before being too sure, as it’s important we bounce back straight away from the West Brom result.
Beni, there’s no denying Klopp has had to move a lot out in order to buy big, hence the low net spend but Liverpool have the seventh most expensive squad in Europe and boast the world’s most expensive defender so their squad hasn’t been assembled cheaply. Admittedly though, Utd, City and PSG are in a league of their own in that regard and have no excuse for not being in the CL semis

17th April 2018 at 4:59 pm #20532Ye ed but we have had to sell our best players to put this squad together
As Iβve been told many times, net spend is the only way to look at this lol

17th April 2018 at 5:16 pm #20536Sean, I’m not for a minute suggesting net spend is not a metric worth looking at. I definitely have no agenda here as we come out pretty poorly whichever way you look at it! The net spend clearly shows Klopp has done a great job of moving players in and out of the club and still remained competitive. That said, there is still no getting away from the fact that Liverpool have not assembled their squad on the cheap. Their squad was assembled at a cost higher than the likes of Bayern Munich, which surprised me a bit.

17th April 2018 at 5:39 pm #20538Ye but we assembled it through selling players. Our best player some said in Jan. We have never spend over 50 net in years.
Klopp has bought well. Very well.
We spend big through selling.
Utd and city donβt have to do that
Money needs to be spent well. City bought really well in the summer
We pay big money. No doubting that ed. Our squad is weaker since couthino went. He wasnβt replaced and Iβm very surprised we are were we are now

17th April 2018 at 5:49 pm #20539Sean, you’re referring back to City and Utd but I’ve already said we’re in an entire different league. I’m not in any way comparing our spending to Liverpool’s. No fans of City, PSG or Utd can take any moral high ground. I’m comparing Liverpool’s cost of their squad which is right up there with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Very few sides haven’t had to sell their best players at some point. Utd lost Ronaldo and would have lost De Gea, but for a dodgy fax machine. Chelsea are probably going to lose Hazard. Arsenal have lost loads of their best players through the years, as have Spurs. City haven’t really had to lose anyone, to be fair, but they’re the only ones. Even Bayern struggle to hold onto their stars. Barca lost one of their best players last year. It happens to (almost) all clubs!

17th April 2018 at 5:52 pm #20540But I completely agree that Klopp has bought well. Where the likes of City and Utd have an advantage is that they can risk buying players for Β£50/Β£60mil and not being too affected financially if they don’t work out. Liverpool don’t have that luxury, but then nor do most clubs. Utd have bought terribly since Sir Alex retired.

17th April 2018 at 6:16 pm #20544But we play in the same league as united and City and Chelsea Ed.
They collect players like a panini sticker album, whereas we keep losing South Americans when Barcelona show them a stocking top.
