17th April 2018 at 12:01 am #20471AnonymousHe’ll have to get through us to win the title. If we can keep going the way we are, I wouldn’t rule Klopp out for the PL trophy.

17th April 2018 at 4:12 am #20472I would… better chance than YooUtd, granted, but considering what City are going to do this summer (unless that rumor of a transfer ban is true) I’d doubt even Sir Lord Klopp of the Shire will catch City.

17th April 2018 at 6:43 am #20473Completely agree with Nine. There are so few top candidates available ready to come in. Mourinho is likely to finish second after spending the second most amount on players. Hardly the disaster it’s made out to be. Granted, we’re not over achieving at the moment but we’re so much better than at any other point since Ferguson retired. Like Nine says, Klopp, Pep, Poch and the rest have all come under huge scrutiny at different times of their careers, in the same way Mourinho is doing now. I mean, I’d much rather be in our shoes than the likes of Arsenal who are now entirely irrelevant in the top 4 race, never mind the title race.
Mourinho might well fail to deliver at Utd but it’d be incredibly naive to bet against it. Let’s not forget Mourinho has beaten a better Pep side than this one to the title, and one deemed by many to be the best club side ever, all while scoring the most goals ever in La Liga. Not bad for a bus parker!

17th April 2018 at 7:54 am #20474The United fans I talk to are more upset with the style of play than where they have finished in the league. As 999 says, they are likely to finish 2nd in the league, so the 18 teams below should be even more ashamed. However, the football offered up by Spurs and Liverpool when compared to the football on view at Old Trafford is the big thing. There is no real difference between 2nd and 4th, and even though United may well win the FA Cup this season, no United fan would call this season a success, as almost by any measure the club has stagnated this season, and the United fans can see that. The colossal amounts of money spent should allow fans to at least see some exciting football. Even though my team will possibly end up with no silverware (again) this season, we have been on a journey that has been supremely entertaining this year, with some unforgettable occasions, and that is what you want as a fan. I guess I can live with no silverware if you finish a season feeling you have progressed and entertained.

17th April 2018 at 8:01 am #20476Itβs a difficult one Hightown as utds expectations are higher then Liverpool realistically. I think 2nd and a trophy is a decent season for utd but yiur right 4th for us is a very good season
We have not had successive cl seasons in 9 years. We are moving forward
I think if Jose let utd off the leash then utd would be much better. They have very good attacking players
Utd fans are so used to entertainment and winning. It says a lot for the rest of us that utd are 2nd. De Gea plays a big part in that. The football at times is absolutely dreadful. Pogba and Sanchez have been poor. Iβm not sure if Joseβs style is getting out dated now. Still think he is a top manager and he will spend a lot in the summer

17th April 2018 at 8:38 am #20477Liverpool have had a great season Mak and have played some lovely football but they are currently 17 points behind City and City have a game in hand too that’s a massive gap to make up next season and however Liverpool strengthen in the Summer City will strengthen further.
I think Liverpool will be a challenger for the title next season but if United have a strong transfer window they will challenge as well imo.
But as I said a long time ago I can see City dominating the PL over the next few years certainly whilst Pep is there and that’s Mourinho’s problem as well as everyone else’s too!

17th April 2018 at 9:30 am #20479I think utd will win the FA Cup
Spurs come up short in games like this sat. They have to change that
Really unfair in utd that semi final is at Wembley. Spurs have made it their home this season

17th April 2018 at 9:40 am #20480In defense of my Spuds, the whole semi-final/home field thing was raised last summer at one of the meetings and by all accounts nobody had an issue then… bit late for anybody to sulk about it now… but as Wasplicker says, we’ll choke anyway… π

17th April 2018 at 9:41 am #20481Chucky: mate, just because this time round, City were overwhelming in points total doesn’t necessarily mean, they’ll hit 80-90 points every season! π
Visited a couple of different message boards (not teamtalk) and it’s amazing what you read though in general, it is very much aligned.
Sure, certain clubs as per norm are expected to strengthen, but there’s a lot of good feel at the moment and hope and aspiration for Liverpool to challenge for the League Title.
We won’t have to wait forever for 18 to turn into 19!

17th April 2018 at 10:54 am #20483I admire you optimism Nilly-Willy, I really do, you put the fan into “obsessive-collusive-lunatic” for sure… π
While Pepe is around with his pretty much blank check-book, I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath.
As much as you say City won’t get 80/90 points every season, you think Salah is still going to hit 30/35 goals every season?

17th April 2018 at 11:00 am #20484Despite his barrage of controversies Mourinho is a winner of 3 PL titles no manager who is managing today has won more PL tiles than him. only Ferguson can better him in that sense. and the only other manager who can match him is Wenger who has 21 years service at Arsenal uninterrupted. give credit where its due. because some hate him cannot take way those success from him. but that said, i’m not defending the other stuff that Mourinho says sometimes. he needs to show respect to others and that is his biggest weakness.

17th April 2018 at 11:21 am #20485C/Man, at one point mate, I had the utmost respect and liking for Jose, especially when he was at Inter Milan.
I welcomed him at Real, but he was too much embroiled in skirmish with other professionals and as per norm in his tenure with clubs, he just goes into a tangent.
As far as Manchester United go, from a neutral point of view, I’d be looking at the idea of a small Management team as in class of 92.
The reality is that these fellas need to learn their trade and gain experience at first from a lower down club.
I’m actually glad for instance, Gerrard has been linked to Ipswich Town, and rather than shoe-horning into a lazy punditry role, these guys would be better suited to take the route of Management which also breeds hope for our National Team.
Cheers

17th April 2018 at 11:24 am #20486Chucky, probably not mate in reality.
We’d like to see how the tail end of this season and CL pans out, but I’d personally be happy adding to kieta, maybe another central defender, and a big statement signing of either a striker or a attacking midfielder.
I’d see as far as our transition goes since Klopp’s arrival, he’s probably now in ‘phase 3’ to make a decision on the ones loaned out this season.
Cheers

17th April 2018 at 12:03 pm #20487Class of 92?
Great players but none of them will ever be good enough to successfully manage United and despite the warm feelings it might provide neither probably will Gerrard be good enough to successfully manage Liverpool.
Very few great players make great Managers and very few go on to be successful Managers at the club they once played for.

17th April 2018 at 12:45 pm #20488The reality check on Mourinho is thus:
Since Week 24 and the close of his forth transfer window Β£300 million Net spend and inheriting some good players (and acquiring a proven World class striker,) Utd have gained 18 pts and improved their GD by 4 goals. Burnley have 17 pts and GD 5 and Newcastle have 20 pts and GD 6. If Sean Dyche or Rafa Benitez had access to Β£300 mill Net in 2 seasons, you can’t convince me Utd wouldn’t be playing with more style, cohesion or success!
The 2 trophies you parade as evidence of his tactical ability were the Europa by beating St Etienne, FC Rostov, Anderlecht, Celta Vigo and Ajax. How are any of these teams performing this season? Probably the weekest Europa competition in years.
His run to win the EPL cup from the last 16 was West Ham, Hull and Southampton. How are those teams doing?? A competition most managers play 2nd team & youth players in…
Hardley evidence of managerial genius even without having a massive expensive squad..
His biggest crime at Chelsea and Man U is narcissism and need for immediate gratification. He refuses to patently bring through talent and sells promising players who need coaching. He buys expensive talent and loses patience immediately if they don’t perform. In doing so he has raised UTD’s wage structure to eye watering levels that attracts mercenaries, greed and lack of the right values in players and fans..
Pochettino and Klopp have patiently built great first 11 teams and a depth of youth coming through on minimal Net spend and the supporters are loving it! Despite not having a Europa cup or EPL to parade…
Klopp, Pochettino, Dyche and Benitez are far superior managers to Mourinho and none Utd fans watch with great amusement.
Pep has a great idea of how his team play and win. But I want to see if he can do it away from the spending power of UTD,City,PSG,Chelsea, B Munich, Barcelona or Real M. I’m not convinced the above managers couldn’t win with those teams and that money.._____________________________

17th April 2018 at 12:58 pm #20489As an aside. Since Klopp has introduced VVD and settled with Robertson at left back (Β£8 mill) Alex Arnold right back (youth squad) and Karius (Β£4.7 mill) and sold Coutinho for Β£142 mill, Liverpool have gained the same points as City with a GD of 22 vs City’s GD18. So when you talk of a 20 point gap between LFC and City, that was LFC with Mignolet, Moreno and Matip.
Next season is going to be a lot more competitive now a lot of teams have the spending power that Chelsea had over everyone when Mourinho won/bought his titles at Chelsea…
As has been demonstrated from Blackburn onwards, if you have the spending power, you can buy a top class squad of 22 players and vastly increase your probability of winning the league.. The top Cup competitions, test managerial nouse.._____________________________
