They got there in the end though Ed.
Phew eh!
But it’s not helped all the negativity currently surrounding United.
Nothing that a couple of decent signings between now and September 1st might help dispel though.π

10th August 2022 at 11:40 am #197462The future is already here

Will be interesting to see how this works in the super cup.
Ed you said thr Bundesliga going the other way with VAR, you mean VAR will govern the match more and overrule the on pitch ref as opposed to the PL clear and obvious error policy?

10th August 2022 at 11:47 am #197463I think a part of this is being fearful of VAR undermining referees and that if you kept changing decisions thereβs probably a feeling at the top that it wouldnβt reflect well on the on field referee. But why was that incident not get referred to the monitor which would better maintain the integrity of the referee as he can then say he then saw something he missed. With incidents as pivotal as penalties, I donβt think fans would mind the wait as much.
As for making public the conversations between VAR and the referees after the game, that may hopefully speed up the changes in VAR we are looking for as it would quickly magnify disputes and it would be harder to defend the βclear and obviousβ line if everything is revealed.

10th August 2022 at 1:07 pm #197464Considering the players behaviour during matches, I think there is also a lot of consideration being given to the thought of doing the least amount possible to undermine the ref on the pitch and make his job even harder. They get enough abuse as it is from the overpaid gobshites, can you imagine what it would be like if VAR kept overuling them and telling them to check the screen etc…? It would be even worse now.

10th August 2022 at 3:04 pm #197465Threeps, I’m referring to the article I posted from the Espn where it states:
The Premier League said before the season began that it would continue with its high bar over interventions, doubling down on its policy of last season, and it’s situations such as this where it’s tested to its limit. There wasn’t a single VAR overturn across the opening weekend, when the average is usually just under one every three games; that probably tells its own story.
In the German Bundesliga, they are going the other way. Rather than having such a high bar, they have instructed the VAR to tell the referee to “have another look” at situations where they may change their mind if they watch it again. In the Premier League, the pitchside monitor is essentially there for a referee to confirm an overturn. The official still retains the right to reject it, but it didn’t happen once last season.

10th August 2022 at 4:01 pm #197466ED…all Utd need is 2/3 good solid tradesmen, not anymore super stars. I think that is what ETH is after but I would forget DeJong now because after all the jostling the pressure on him will be so great he just would not perform then you would have another expensive failure. Get some solid players in and build from there, you are not going to do it with current squad. I can see occasions of brilliance but no consistency. I could be wrong of course

10th August 2022 at 4:52 pm #197467How long have we been discussing VAR? The fact that we do suggests it isn’t working. They are quick enough if a toe is offside but no action on a stonewall penalty. Could it be a fear of bad marks?
ONE game gone and its yet again a major talking point. To me it proves that it isn’t working._____________________________

10th August 2022 at 7:21 pm #197470Adlab…I am not concerned how many players any other team have in it, I do know we are the Champions. The team is picked by players I assume so they should have a better insight. However, it is still all about opinion

10th August 2022 at 7:24 pm #197471Adlab..as I have mentioned before VAR is not the finished article and should not have been introduced until it was. I have no problem with using technology to help the game….when it is fit for purpose

11th August 2022 at 7:09 am #197475Klopp got to 3 finals and one point off the league with limited resources compared to Man City who have the best of everything
To challenge city is a miracle. They have the best manager and Unlimited resources.they Alonso have the best players to pick and choose from Man City should be winning every single trophy every single year.
I know brian prefers the league to the cl but peps time st city will be tarnished if he doesnβt. He needs to win it
While adlab sits there crying about Man Cityβs βmisfortune β we all just sit back and enjoy sit for his next hilarious Moan about how poor Man City are ripped off with him everything. Absolutely bores me to tears and really puts you off the site

11th August 2022 at 9:00 am #197481Sean. I wasn’t talking about City believe it or not. It is about opinions. For example as a striker imo Son should be in there. It’s not “oh dear we are robbed” etc as you might think. It would be of genuine interest if you picked your EPL team of the season without looking at the PFA one and compare.
Could be a good thread?_____________________________
