Have to say, Mav, and at the risk of being accused of being biased, I agree with Sean. The Mane penalty was as clear as any I’ve seen in my opinion, and most of the pundits and media seem to agree. Certainly agree with you about the Daniel James penalty at Norwich. I wouldn’t have given that but would have given the handball. James seemed to lean in to the defender and then fell…where’s the foul? Anyway they were both missed, so what the hell!

Are you sure that you are not making this a tongue in cheek when you said ” i wouldn’t have given the Mane penalty”? do you still believe the James penalty was any worse foul than the Mane one?_____________________________

28th October 2019 at 7:44 pm #51270Mac. the only people in the market are the Gulf states, China, India and possibly USA no chance any European or even less UK investors in football. Glaziers will sell to wherever they get the best and quickest deal

28th October 2019 at 7:45 pm #51272Personally, i thought the Mane one was a penalty, because it’s irrelevant if Aurier was going for the ball or not. a foul is a foul, if you touch the ball before the player, that is fine. but if you touch the player before the ball it’s a foul.

28th October 2019 at 7:47 pm #51273CH-Fair enough mate, but how was Aurier meant to hit the ball without moving his leg?

28th October 2019 at 7:58 pm #51276I thought Aurier went for the man rather than the ball. and that was the the ref’s view also. and that penalty was a stone wall penalty for me. i thought the James penalty was a strange one. i don’t know how the VAR has given? it was similar as the one that Hudson Odoi was booked for.

29th October 2019 at 6:18 am #51280Mav, if a player cannot get the ball without going through the player first then the best thing he can do is not go for the ball in that instance. If he delayed his actions he might not have fouled Mane. He might of not known Mane was actually there as Mane nipped in front of him but that is no excuse, he should be more aware of his surroundings. Clear pen for me.

29th October 2019 at 8:14 am #51282This may be a little controversial, but maybe the league should think about giving the refs some assistance, you know thereโs now loads of cameras at the matches now, maybe they could review any dubious incidents so they get them right???…..Pagan

29th October 2019 at 8:28 am #51283AnonymousI think I upset a few people (very slightly) when I gave my opinion that Mane orchestrated the foul for the penalty. I standby that opinion but that is definitely not the same thing as saying it wasn’t a penalty. It was, stone-wall a foul. Maybe I over-stated it at the time and some of the neutrals and rivals on here took that and ran with it (with regards to the discussion of whether it was or wasnt a peno).. or maybe not.
I have read through most of the comments since and it’s clear that maybe we should agree to disagree, as Sean said.
I found a video of everything Fabinho did in the match. Not everything is brilliance, as a lot is routine stuff but there are some really really good bits of play in here from Fabs. If you neutrals can suffer through 2:30 mins of video, you’ll gain a much stronger understanding of what this awesome player does for us :

29th October 2019 at 11:49 am #51292442, I have to agree. Iโd quite easily swap Fabinho for Kante. I think 10 years ago Fabinho would rightly have been considered a top defensive midfielder. But with the way the game has evolved to a high energy game, Kante has redefined the role. There are some games like Sundays game where Fabinho can look the part when the team is playing well with a high press. But in other games I see him get passed too easily. Kante just…doesnโt. Indeed vs Liverpool during Kanteโs goal he went past Fabinho like he wasnโt there.
