Like it was ever in question Nancy 😁🤣
Be interesting to hear thoughts from people on their own club and transfers and prospects for new season …
Ed you can’t be overly excited given the lack of transfer activity?

5th August 2022 at 12:23 pm #197269Dunno Buffy, Budgies away isn’t the easiest start to the season, that’s for sure.
But as you asked nicely, I couldn’t be that much happier with our summer spree. Not entirely sure if 50 plus for Blondie was a great idea (although I do miss the shithousery from Lamela, so looking forward to see who’s buttons Blondie will press. Quite happy with the other 5, all players that fill the weak spots in our squad. And there’s plenty of cyber fish-wrappings suggesting we’re getting a “AM” (Maddie from Foxy or this Italian lad) which would be nice… along with that other lad from Italy who we’re loaning straight back out again.
Now we have to shift some of the dead wood and see how much we can re-coup before the end of the month… be nice to get them off the wage bill!
Going to be interesting to see how this “5-sub” thing plays out… all the big dogs, especially the top 6 have pretty large squads right now… I can see a lot of games having a lot of dramatic endings!

5th August 2022 at 12:29 pm #197270Good to see you both back!
Steve, I’m cautiously optimistic about the longer term but very realistic about the short term. It’s a complete overhaul of the way we play and that will take time. The lack of transfer activity suggests it will take even longer than I, and probably most others, thought.
I think top 4 is out of the question this season as all the other contenders are so much further ahead in what they want to do and having the squads where they want them. The lack of people having Utd in their top 4 on this thread and elsewhere suggests many agree with this.
My only hope is that Ten Hag is given the time he needs for us to really see if he is the right man. That’s not me saying we should stick with him whatever happens asthat would be naive. Assuming we see progress in either the style of play and/or the league position then he needs to be given time. I’m not an advocate of just blindly giving managers time. You have to have something to go on to argue that’s the right decision. He is, after all, rather inexperienced at the highest level.
If I had to guess a position, I’d say 5th is doable but 6th is probably more realistic in his first season.

5th August 2022 at 12:34 pm #197271The reality with Utd is that there are, without question, at least 4 stronger managers than Ten Hag in the league (Klopp, Pep, Conte and Tuchel) and Arsenal have invested a lot of money so whatever I think of Arteta, he at least has his own players now.
For Utd to get past any of those 5 is a tough ask considering they’re not only stronger managers but also stronger squads and have all had much more time to hone their styles.

5th August 2022 at 12:47 pm #197273Very valid point Ed. I think utd may start Sunday without one signing in the 1st 11. After our little debate on erikson, I concluded you were right. It’s a good signing and utd need the numbers
Disappointing thing for utd fans is mcfred be 1st choice again. Is it time to move on from de Jong? They really need a proper strong midfield enforcer who can play ball.
The lad off Salzburg be perfect as a centre forward especially if ronaldo stays. I’ve only seen him once but he tore Gomez and konate apart. Good young player to bring in who is just learning his trade

5th August 2022 at 12:54 pm #197274Yeah it’s crazy to think we’re starting with no new signings Sean and, as you say, yet again with McFred in midfield.
Yeah I think Eriksen will give us much needed depth after losing so many midfielders to contracts expiring but we’ll see.
Sesko looked great against Liverpool and all this “better than Haaland” talk coming out of Salzburg is interesting but they supposedly want over £50mil for him which is just crazy and his goal stats are not that great. At his age, is he ready to lead the line, as you’d expect from someone at that price? Not for me. I’d never heard of him until this summer so I’d be very wary of spending that much on him, personally.

5th August 2022 at 7:46 pm #197282Difficult to predict how big an effect the World Cup will have on the season but it’s bound to have some sort of an effect at both the top and bottom of the PL.
Ridiculous!

5th August 2022 at 9:47 pm #197285Nine…the matches have no relevance to me, meaningless. I see it only putting money in “suits”pockets. I just hope the EPL players come out of it in a healthy state. I think the betting industry will be working overtime as well. Any England fans would be crazy to go

5th August 2022 at 10:00 pm #197289I don’t think Arteta is a bad coach but I think he lacks a commanding presence and aura to instil a real authority into his team. They’ll no doubt blow a few teams away this season and go on some good runs, but can just still see them them dropping points in games they shouldn’t. They lack the steel someone like Conte can instil.

Sky Sports. 3 City vs 1 for Liverpool
Bbc sport. 13 City vs 9 for Liverpool

6th August 2022 at 10:25 am #197295Sean…even Richards thinks Liverpool will get it this season!!! As for New…he will change his mind next week!!!!!!!! Whatever, I just hope it is a good season for football but with the disruptions coming up I think it will turn out a real mess for most part. How can any Manager plan for such a crowded fixture list, I can see some huge upsets

6th August 2022 at 10:42 am #197297You’re suggesting 8 teams(?!) can win the league Brian? With respect, as many as 8 teams aren’t even in contention for Champions League spots. It’s City, Liverpool, then 2 of Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal or Utd with the first 2 the most likely. Zero % chance of anyone else getting top 4 and even less chance of anyone other than Liverpool or City winning the league.
