I certainly sympathise with the latter point.

9th September 2017 at 2:56 pm #4847AnonymousFor me it was a definite red card. No intention to hurt the keeper, eyes on the ball, but it’s a high foot and caught him in the face with his studs. Unfortunate. Liverpool completely collapsed after the red which is very unlike them. Maybe a bit of a wake up call. Defending was shambolic fro Liverpool. Don’t understand why van dijk was liverpools only centre back target. Klopp clearly knew it was a position that needed strengthening but didn’t want anyone apart from VVD. There are hundreds of defenders that would strengthen liverpools defence but only one was seen as suitable.

9th September 2017 at 3:02 pm #4848Said my piece on the red of the day (so far!)…
Bit worried about my Spuds, looks like Poncho is either playing Disco Sissisiko in a DM role (with Dembele on the bench! WTF?) or a weird 4-1-4-1 formation…

9th September 2017 at 3:46 pm #4853Well I’m laying flat out on my lounge floor with a lower back disc problem. Wife took my girls. First home game I have missed for a couple of seasons. Bloody Typical!? I thought we were due a win against Liverpool. With regards to Mane I thought it was a reckless challenge but clearly not intentional. However flying in with your boot high, not getting the ball and catching the other player square in the face isnt good. If it’s a foul then it has to be a red surely and there are plenty of reckless challenges that are not intentional every weekend where players get booked. Just one of those things sadly for Mane and luckily Edison is ok. Kompany got sent off at OT for a two footed tackle that didnt even make contact with Nani a few seasons back! That aside I was disappointed in Liverpool, they just fell apart after we scored, No pressing no defence no passing play. I think Klopp will be very disappointed with that performance especially in tbe second half. City on the other hand took their chances well. King Kev had a blinder. But we still can’t defend and Otamendi is such an illdisciplined player. His positioning is awful and he still lunges into tackles. Nice to see Mangala on the pitch. Not a Pep player but strong and quick. I would have settled for 5-0 before the game. Jim

9th September 2017 at 4:57 pm #4862Well, the Spud game fizzled out around the hour mark, nothing of real note in the last 30 minutes from either side. I see all the other big-dogs playing the 3 o’clock games got wins, all we need is a Stoke win (can’t really see it happening!) and the top of the table will look quite close again!
Davies was great (Rose might not be getting straight back in the team!) and Sanchez looked like he’d been there for a while. Looked solid with no frills, but he will certainly have sterner tests. Thought the Toffee’s had a bit more in their locker, to be honest, very average today.

9th September 2017 at 5:19 pm #4866Never a red for me.
He’s entitled to challenge for the ball – it’s a contact sport and unintentional collisions happen. Glad the goalie was ok and up and about by the end of the game, rather than in hospital – he went in bravely.Ref Ruined the game.
Ah well – shit happens.
One step closer to it being a non-contact sport._____________________________

9th September 2017 at 5:56 pm #4869Thanks Beni.
As regards to the red. Sure he’s entitled to challenge for the ball. But is he allowed to kick another player in the face while challenging? A high foot in a tackle is always a risky business. The issue revolves around whether a collision that’s accidental should result in a red if one of the players is deemed to go in dangerously and recklessly. You probably remember Nigel deJong sliding in on Ben Arfa and winning the ball a few seasons back but he caught him with his trailing leg and broke Ben Arfas leg. Again accidental but he DeJong didnt even get a card as he won the ball. Much debate about that challenge too and even Chris Haughton deemed it just an accident. I remember defending DeJong at the time! Now I’m not so sure as it was reckless and the rules state that anything that endangers an opponent is a red card. Its a tough call but if Manes is not a red as its accidental then surely it’s not a foul either, if that was the case then I think City would feel very aggrieved. My brother in law, also a City fan, thought it was a harsh decision because it was accidental so clearly it’s divided opinion. Liverpool can of course appeal, presumably you think they should? Anyway at least Mane didnt get sent off for running towards his fans like Sterling did 2 weeks ago!? Cheers Jim_____________________________

9th September 2017 at 6:02 pm #4870999 I have had two prolapsed discs next to L4 and L5 for about 10 years. Had scans and seen a consultant who said it wasnt serious enough for an opp. But when it goes its bloody painful and leaves me next to useless. I have learnt to manage my back and change what I do to prevent issues most of the time. But yesterday putting my socks on did it for me. It happens, but many people worse off than me, a couple of days and it will be on the mend. Jim

9th September 2017 at 6:50 pm #4871I really don’t see how anybody can say Mane’s Kung-Fu today was anything other than dangerous play, full stop, and that’s a red-card. I think we all agree Mane wasn’t aiming for the goalie one little bit, but he had to know the goalie was likely to challenge for the ball also, didn’t he? Luckily for all involved, Eddy has only got a few scratches and a stitch or two by all accounts, could have got a stud in the eyeball, or even a broken neck in a worst case scenario.
