The current market value of a high quality player otherwise dictates cost.
In our defence, the players spent on were to address problems that would benefit the squad for the long-term.
There are still players on our books whereby they need shipping out, but Klopp’s rebuilding job is still in process.
I’m not sure what Poch is actually referring to when he says 10 years.
Man City have had I would say a nucleus and longevity that’s lasted several years. David Silva for example will be in his 10th season at the club one this one finishes.
There are so many different elements above all that makes a successful team not just head for the cheque-book.

1st April 2019 at 1:10 pm #36609AnonymousOk, well forget the money. It’s plain hard to compete with this City team. You’re talking about the best PL side ever. We’ve lost only 1 game and we’re far from being favourites to finish ahead of them.
The win yesterday was absolutely massive though. I think it’ll definitely leave a mark on City. They appear to have a strong mentality though, as they’ve responded well to each win we’ve had so far. They’ll have watched that game though and just when they were truly believing we’d messed it up, their hopes of it being easier on them was burst like a balloon.
This is the psychological aspect of a close title run in. If we can keep the 3 points coming in, the pressure will bounce from team to team.

1st April 2019 at 1:13 pm #36610AnonymousThere aren’t many teams left who can beat city though, even on a good day. I have to wonder what the players/fans will be thinking as Utd take them on. Will they be extra motivated to be able to potentially deny one of their rivals with a win, or will they prefer to lose in order for their arch rivals to miss out?
To be clear, I’m not calling anyone’s professionalism into question. I’m talking about the back of the mind stuff, with regards to the players and as for the fans, well I think it can be looser with them.
What say ye Utd supporters? We all want our teams to win every match and you’re chasing 4th, so it’s not trivial or anything.. but flesh it out for me. Who would you prefer to deny? Feel free to add in a clause where you’re getting top 4 regardless of the result, hypothetically.

1st April 2019 at 1:20 pm #36611Keita & Mahrez cost a combined £110 million this season. And neither have made significant contributions to their respective teams.

1st April 2019 at 1:26 pm #36612Albeit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, I’m actually disappointed more towards the teams below that didn’t put up enough of a fight when they encountered Man City either home or away.
United and Spurs exempt bit disappointed with Arsenal. Players injured or not, hats off to the teams so far that did turnover City in which were Chelsea, Leicester, Newcastle and Palace – 2 of which were at the Ethiad.

1st April 2019 at 1:28 pm #36613Riyad is no different to what he did at Leicester, but Pep’s using him to his utter strength which is being able to get into that wide 6 yard area and count as an extra man.
Benardo Silva played in that way in his first season. This season, he’s been the new David Silva meaning the veteran can hang his boots up and younger Silva is ready to shoe-horn.
Keita for me needs time, but it’s rumoured Klopp wants him shipped back to Germany in the Summer.

1st April 2019 at 1:31 pm #36614Mak @ 1:13, though not impossible, there’s a likely-hood of City tripping up at some point. I’m not pinning it all down to the events at Old Trafford, I think Spurs and Leicester could have a say.
Chris Hughton’s Brighton on the last day where he could be fighting to stay up.

1st April 2019 at 3:52 pm #36646AnonymousHonestly, Keita is not going to work at this club. He has definitely had games here and there where I’ve thought “hang on , he might be a player for us yet” but then he fails to impress after.
He’s had enough time to impress. I think we should move him on in the summer and look to get someone more effective in.

1st April 2019 at 4:35 pm #36656NB..you are right…City fans have long thought that Bernado Silva will take over from David Silva in due course, he is some player, well both are. a joy to watch. They have been City’s Xavi and Innesta and model Pro’s. As to the remaining matches, like I have said before, I think City have a mental strength to get them through next seven league games but I am still not saying they will be unbeatable but they will be putting in a full shift, win or loose. Cardiff will be tough and it will depend on how good a start we make….again, Cardiff like other teams capable of defending and breaking away to score, it is a matter how long they defend for. I expect City will make 3/4 changes for this game, some will get half a game. I expect Sane,Jesus,Stones and possibly Kompany to play and hope we see something of Foden

1st April 2019 at 5:20 pm #36660AnonymousFair enough, I could be wrong. I still think I’ve seen enough to say that he’s not going to work out and obviously I’d prefer he did but you’ve got to trust your instincts and mine say we’ll be replacing him either this summer or next.

1st April 2019 at 5:22 pm #36661The way I see the story of the title race this season is that it was basically Liverpool’s to lose. They are the team that were ultimately setting the pace and benchmark this season. Then they lost at City, and it dealt a big psychological blow to them that they’ve only just started to recover from. I see City as the opportunists this year – they are actually 7 points down on this season from the same point last season, but have been galvanised since they’ve smelt the opportunity to overtake Liverpool. Now the momentum is pretty much equal between them because the race is completely wide open. As I’ve said before I actually think it suits Klopp to be chasing rather than holding on (indeed a lot of the draws came about because I don’t think Klopp knew how to handle being top and whether to stick or twist). It also suits his underdog type demeanour. But it’s pretty much impossible to call at the moment, so as Mak alluded to, each result and each significant moment will now be magnified because that’s what will now dictate where the title goes. Moments and momentum shifts.

1st April 2019 at 5:25 pm #36663Both teams still face tricky games Brian City have a slight advantage with the game in hand and and better goal difference and goals scored but currently face two more games than Liverpool which could be telling and the CL games v Spurs are likely to be more testing than Liverpools games v Porto. Still very difficult to call but lady luck seems to be currently favouring Liverpool.

1st April 2019 at 5:31 pm #36664I think the thing about Keita was that because of the way he played (and the similarity of the system at Leipzig), there was not only a big expectation that he’d settle quickly but also that he’d be a real leader and match winner. But it actually seems that he’s quite a shy lad and not that kind of personality that he was perhaps billed up to be. That could still change next season if he better settles, but boy we could have done with him turning up this year.

1st April 2019 at 7:52 pm #36679Sorry not been on here much recently. Have been reading most posts but not had time to post my ‘pearls of wisdom’, but after yesterday’s game, I had to find time!
No question we did not deserve to win, but credit to the team and the crowd for not giving up. I hope the crowd came over okay on TV, because they can get criticism at times, but I thought yestertday we were good!
Just couldn’t undertsand Jurgen’s team selection, at least leaving Fabinho out. He should be after only VVD, Robbo and the front 3 as definite starters. I thought Hendo was very poor yesterday, and I am a supporter of him generally, but God, he was woeful yesterday, arriving a split second too late for every challenge, interception etc, Milner, I thought showed his age yesterday and offered us little, and Gini just looked knackered and allowed the game to bypass him. The back 4 were great, offerring solidity in defence and great support up top from Trent and Robbo. The front 3 flattered to deceive a little but got no help from the midfield.
But it feels churlish to criticise anyone, as it is the result that is so important. We’re still in it, guys, and although City will be top by the time we play again, we have shown that we are a side that won”t give up, and need to be feared and respected. Can Warnock’s lot do us a favour on Wednesday? I think not!!

1st April 2019 at 8:28 pm #36682A number of Liverpool fans on that other site ? were claiming Keita was better than Kante pre season.
I think you have to give Keita next season new country, new League, new team that’s a massive upheaval. I definitely wouldn’t give up on him yet and I don’t think Klopp will.
In contract I have been massively impressed with Fabinho lately who started off poorly. Really surprised Fabinho didn’t start v Spurs.
