10th March 2019 at 11:26 pm #35541The closest Title Races in recent times really relate to 2013/14 and 2011-12, although 2012, the time when Manchester City first won the Premier League Trophy was decided on the ‘Aguerrrro’ moment – unique and settled on Goal Difference.
Season 1994-95 was the last time, the Title was decided on the final day between Manchester United and Blackburn, and these were the standings:
Blackburn 27-8-lost 7 – 89 points
Man United 26-10-lost 6 – 88 pointsSeason 2017-18
Man City 32-4-lost 2 – 100 points
Man United – 25-6-lost 7 – 81 pointsSeason 2016-17
Chelsea 30-3-lost 5 – 93 points
Tottenham 26-8-lost 4 – 86 pointsSeason 2015-16
Leicester 23-12-lost 3 – 81 points
Arsenal 20-11-lost 7 – 71 pointsSeason 2014-15
Chelsea 26-9-lost 3 – 87 points
Man City 24-7-lost 7 – 79 pointsSeason 2013-14
Man City – 27-5-lost 6 – 86 points
Liverpool 26-6-lost 6 – 84 points
Chelsea 25-7-lost 6 – 82 pointsSeason 2012-13
Man United – 28-5-lost 5 – 89 points
Man City – 23-9-lost 6 – 78 pointsSeason 2011-12
Man City 28-5-lost 5 – 89 points – Goal Difference: 64

11th March 2019 at 4:32 am #35545Just seen a replay of the game, Lallana was very good, Salah made a few half chances but just lacks that end product of last season, being a pass or shot. VBD was excellent & the rest pretty much done well without excelling. TAA got skinned a couple of times by that young fella, McNally or something like that I think it was. All in all a deserved win without anything spectacular. Iβd certainly take 8 more of those in the EPL.

11th March 2019 at 7:11 am #35548Thanks Ed, it was a surprise and a happy one and nice to see us “put a shift in”!
Also nice to end their little PL unbeaten run under OGS (for united fans our new manager went 22 this season ;))
Clean sheet due to some good keeping and poor finishing
Can see any two of us united or chelsea taking Spuds 4th place trophy π_____________________________

11th March 2019 at 7:28 am #35549watched a Bunders game after the pool match and saw the VAR used, it was used well correctly dissallowing a given penalty but it still took a ridiculous 5mins when it was very clear….i dont mind VAR personally as long as its done quicker and certain rules are clarified, it may take a few years but its coming and likely staying so we may as well move on, we can now bemoan and debate VAR decisions as well as the ref, its no different!

11th March 2019 at 8:32 am #35550Nine thatβs it mate. We were 25 points behind city last season but that will be completely forgotten if we come 2nd.
Itβs excellent progress but we need a trophy this season. No point being the nearly men again
Just canβt see past city and I was saying that when we were 7 clear

11th March 2019 at 8:41 am #35551Nine…City are doing enough without stretching themselves with the fixture list to come. It will be better when KDB and Laporte back and I think he is saving Sane for some of the games like Schalke this week/ Mr Klopp said yesterday that “we are not going away” that is true, this will be a battle to the end but City did not go away either when you were 7 pts in front noy long ago. I do not know who will win this, it is good for the game though be better if six teams were battling it out, may happen next season

11th March 2019 at 8:43 am #35552Nil, “Season 1994-95 was the last time, the Title was decided on the final day between Manchester United and Blackburn”.
You are forgetting 2012 when City won the title with two goals in added time on the last game of the season from United who we’re celebrating on the pitch at Sunderland thinking they had won it. I doubt we will ever see a more exciting finish than that.
Each season is different and PL titles have been won with more defeats and less points than Liverpool will likely achieve this season.
The title will be decided by the team that accumulates the most points at the end of the season and if both City and Liverpool finish level on points it will go down to goal difference and then goals scored and in the unlikely event that that doesn’t separate them then it will go to a play off and all the the if’s and ands in the world isn’t going to change that.
Best of luck to both teams!

11th March 2019 at 8:52 am #35553This weeks debate has been really good and unbiased. Makes interesting reading.
Plenty of stats above. But dont forget….”lies damned lies and statistics”. I still think there will be a number of strange results before the end. From our perspective we simply have to win 8 games!!! Easier said than done. With our full team, maybe…but with no Mendy, Fernandinho, KDB Laporte…I dont know._____________________________

11th March 2019 at 8:57 am #35556Adlab, City don’t play again in the PL until after the international break which can’t come at a better time for you you’ll likely have most if not all of those players back for the run in.

11th March 2019 at 9:02 am #35558My Spuds aren’t playing Pool until then either, and considering how shite we are (in general) at the moment and our historical shiteness on Saturday Lunchtime kick-offs, and even bigger shiteness after any sort of break, let alone 2 and a half weeks, I’ll be amazed if we get a point…. fully expect Spuds not to be in the Top 4 after that game!

11th March 2019 at 10:02 am #35562Nine, that’s actually all highlighted in the intro mate – the opening paragraph.
The only one that’s been decided by goal-difference albeit First Division 1988-89, Liverpool-Arsenal.

11th March 2019 at 10:12 am #35563Nil, Season 1994-95 was the last time, the Title was decided on the final day between Manchester United and Blackburnβ? Your words mate.
Not sure what you’re trying to say in your post anyway presumably it’s to say other Clubs have won the title on less points and more defeats than Liverpool might end up on and if Liverpool end up finishing 2nd they will have been hard done by.
But each season is a different season with different circumstances and the team with the most points or in the event of a tie on points with the better goal difference/most goals scored wins the title and what happened in previous seasons has no bearing on this season.
And anyway there’s still very chance of Liverpool winning the title.
