And I’ll bet the puppy a can of Whiskers and a squeaky toy that looks like Ozil’s face they’ll be about 7 minutes of “injury” time each half too… to game will be a farce… I remember the good old days…

10th March 2019 at 7:48 pm #35490Chucks, that type of scenario has crossed my mind mate. A cause of disruption. I’m lead to believe Referee’s generally will Ref the game as per norm and VAR is likely to be more reactive than proactive, but you can bet your bottom dollar the players will corner the Ref in order to signal for VAR. Let’s hope all this pre-empted this summer.

10th March 2019 at 7:51 pm #35491Pagan, it shouldn’t be the case. That was just one possibility, though an unfair one as you rightly point out.
I don’t have an answer other than to name/shame and exclude him permanently.

10th March 2019 at 7:56 pm #35494Chuckles, at the moment itβs not uncommon for a VAR review to take between 4 to 5 minutes, thatβs 5% of the game, if you have multiple instances in a game for penalties, goals etc. Itβs going to be a long old game. How that will impact on the evening matches when fans rely on public transport, or have specific trains to catch to cut down on cost, it may drastically cut down on attendance by fans….Pagan

10th March 2019 at 7:59 pm #35496Going with VAR in the PL means more decisions will be correct which has to be a plus.
The Ref won’t review the pitch side screen on every VAR decision.
The negative is that it all takes time but it’s worked well in Rugby and it’s been proven to get the big decisions right in Rugby. Same applies to Cricket.
I’m sure there will be some teething problems but like it or not it’s progress.

10th March 2019 at 7:59 pm #35497The above points are really well made. Just shows what a difficult situation it is.

10th March 2019 at 8:07 pm #35501Goldie… it may work well in cricket and rugby, but neither of those games have the “playacting in the penalty” box fiasco that there is in football. Don’t remember ever a cricketer falling over with a broken leg because of a nudge in the back, or a rugby player falling to the ground like a big tart either for that matter, kinda goes against the main fabric of the game… you might as well suggest it works well in syncronised diving… oh, wait, that’s the problem… π

10th March 2019 at 8:08 pm #35503999, had a discussion about VAR with some rugby and cricket fans, they both said the same thing, when VAR was introduced into those two sports it wasnβt done under the intense spotlight that football is trying to do it under, they had problems but there werenβt the histrionics weβre having with football…Pagan

10th March 2019 at 8:12 pm #35504Mr. Balance, take social responsibility??? As an individual your responsible for your own actions, yes their can be things in your life that affect you, but the blame society card gets vastly overplayed…Pagan

10th March 2019 at 8:13 pm #35505I do empathize with the reservations shown on here, but for over a decade, there’s been cries of Video evidence. Diving is not a new thing accustomed to the game. We have to get behind VAR and at least allow the facility to be implemented in our game.
There’s always room for improvement afterwards.

10th March 2019 at 8:18 pm #35507Pagan, what I was implying by social responsibility is for fellow fans not to ‘egg on’ the lunatic when he waves in the direction of those to ‘celebrate’ his actions and seek some kind of validation.
Instead, dig him out and condemn him.
Same as when sat inside the ground and when somebody shouts something racist to a player – put him in his place their and then and if the problem persists, report him immediately to the nearest Steward and have him ejected from the ground.

10th March 2019 at 8:19 pm #35508I can see how VAR can help with offsides, that’s black and white, they’re either off-side or not, simple, but when it comes to play-acting for peno’s and fouls etc.. calls that are still basically down to the ref’s decision, then it is going to cause havoc as the ref is only going to have the black and white issue of whether contact was made or not.. that’s it… now all attackers, the moment they feel ANY LEVEL of contact will fall over and scream for VAR… it’s going to be a mess…

10th March 2019 at 8:27 pm #35509“now all attackers, the moment they feel ANY LEVEL of contact fall over and scream” 2018/19 Season.
“now all attackers, the moment they feel ANY LEVEL of contact will fall over and scream for VAR” 2019/20 Season.
The difference between the two is that next season we will have a way of analysing whether the screaming actually merits a penalty.
