24th December 2018 at 3:11 am #30021AnonymousSean, in his defence, you could see how someone might come to those conclusions, at a glance. Mane has been brilliant besides being a bit wasteful, when shooting. Salah’s stats are really strong, even if our reliance on him has shrunken. We watch every minute of Liverpool matches, so we see more than what someone might gleam from highlights or the like.
I honestly don’ watch much football outside of Liverpool. I’ve caught some Chelsea and City matches and that’s about it, so I bet I would make many similar mistakes about other teams too.
As for Spurs, they’ve not been really mentioned much but with City losing, it has finally cast a light on just got well they’ve been doing. Our match against them could have gone either way. Imagine if we’d lost that. Then they’d have been going on about a 3 horse race, ages ago.
Let’s go a little further with this. I’ve talked about the next 3 matches being defining for the top 2. Expanding it out to include Spurs.. Liverpool could easily lose both the matches against Arsenal and City. Spurs have the easiest run of the 3 (Bournemouth, Wolves, Cardiff). not exactly “easy” but you’d take that over our 3 and I don’t think City really want to have to play us either. Spurs could be level on points with us come January 3rd. If that doesn’t make this a 3 horse race then I don’t know what does.
Nine, the betting is swinging as a result of Liverpool fans going insane and throwing money on it. I Mean, we’re where we are on merit but what I’ve spoken about above is what keeps me humble. it could all change in a flash. the point lead that we have now is damage control. It’s a luxury. it’s no more than that until we get through the next 3 matches. Then we can talk.
The Wolves game was massive and tells us a lot but the next 3 will create a conversation.

24th December 2018 at 1:42 pm #30040Mak we will lose a game we are expected to win like city on sat then the media/people will flip altogether
Look at utd. Win one game and it’s like they are the Brazil 1970 team. Everyone is so fickle. A team loses one game and everyone goes overboard
People just need to relax. The media really don’t help. It’s just silly
I’m very calm. I really don’t expect us to win the league. So many letdowns in recent years that I’ll never ever go overboard
I’m very suprised were we are but I fully won’t believe anything until there a strong possibility we can do it mate
Imagine the fallout if we draw with Newcastle lol. Anything dah happen and change everything very quickly

24th December 2018 at 2:03 pm #30041You’re a wise man Sean having been through it a few times now it’s as pressurised for the fans as it is for the players.
I never stopped worrying until Chelsea were 6 points clear with a game to play.
I suspect we’ll see lots more twists and turns yet but it’s good that it’s a race this season and not a procession as a neutral I hope it goes to the wire and the best team over the 38 games wins it whoever that may be perhaps even Spurs?
Mak will be a nervous wreck by the end of the season.?

24th December 2018 at 2:57 pm #30045In many ways, those 2 recent defeats suffered by City are probably just what they needed to wake them up. But so long as questions keep being asked of them and pressure is maintained on them, it will expose their weaknesses and all teams have weaknesses.

24th December 2018 at 3:13 pm #30049As Mr Klopp said last week “it was City’s to loose” referring to the title chase, now, the same applies to Liverpool, being in front means everyone else has to catch up. It will be a good run in but the next three games will be important for all contendors

25th December 2018 at 3:46 am #30063AnonymousWait, when I say that Liverpool are still not favourites I’m wrong but when Sean does, he’s very wise? what? I haven’t slept with your wife recently have I? 😀 haha well I guess you lose a little when you willingly get involved in long drawn out, childish arguments with the likes of Ginger and Bingo.
And yes, I will be a nervous wreck before the end of the season. Sean, you may be calm (and this new Sean makes me uncomfortable! jk) but I won’t be til we’re 10 points clear. Even when I said that if we win our next games that i will go ahead and say “ya we’re favourites”, funnily enough I stumbled up on a piece from I think Merson (Ya I know). He said pretty much the same, however he put it as such that if this happens, the league is OVER.
Look, I’ll happily say , yep, I’m calling it “we should win the title now” but to say that it’s all over just makes me so uncomfortable. Why? because we will lose and not just 1 game. We might lose 4 from the remaining half of the season. As fortunate as we’ve been here so far, who’s to day we won’t have a contrasting situation for the remainder?
Now, we’ll have City and Arsenal out of th3e way in the league and that would be massive, since they are the 2 teams who gave us the most trouble so far. The other 2 would then have to be Chelsea and Spurs. I think we were seriously tested in these 4 matches and they could have gone the other way on us.
I have an almost unquestioning belief built up in Klopp at this stage. When he brought us the attacking high pressing football, I was sold. I was 100% invested as a fan. The thing that’s really sold me the idea that we have a shot at a title (this season, or ones after) is how he’s sorted the defence. I mean, if he’d even done a half decent job of it I’d have believed but he’s gone and made us the meanest defence in the land and that’s incredible. wow!
We had conceded 20 goals in the league this time last season. That’s down to 7. If we had 12 now, you’d still say that’s a great improvement and credit to Van Dijk and the boys etc..
Anyway I’m waffling on as usual. I’ll stop
Merry Christmas boys! May the footballing Gods shine upon your teams in one way or the other, as long as it doesn’t get it our way 😉

25th December 2018 at 9:05 am #30067The reason I’m calm mak is because I’m not expecting anything.
Football is football. It’s not life or death but it’s a massive passion I have in my life and so do others. I’m not ashamed 2005 was one of the best nights of my just behind getting married and having kids lol
2014 was so tough to take. I’ve nevwr been so deflated about football before then we lost Europa league final and cl final. It’s just disappointment and afyer disappointment , thats why I’m so guarded and won’t get carried away
I hate all the talk of the title etc. I’m just enjoying the moment and watching us play
I’d rather be spurs flying under the radar. As soon as we mess up once the vultures will be out

25th December 2018 at 3:05 pm #30069AnonymousJust a light hearted joke Nine;) honestly I’m not that wound up about whether we will win or lose the title. I love being where we are and I love the little records that we match and break along the way. There was a piece on the LFC Echo that discussed some of van dijks personal stats (And also some team stats) since joining and they make very impressive reading.
So much about us is worth cherishing, besides looking at what we can win. I could go on but we’re a bit of a marvel. Liverpool fans aren’t used to having such a good defence. Not since Rafa and eve then, it’s better now.
I do still worry that we’re not as good as city. Points be damned, we’ve so many games left and you know we’re going to lose. I think it’ll be soon and ya sean, the vultures will be out then. Maybe they will switch even harder to Pochmania. Not such a bad thing in a sense but the inevitable questions about Liverpool will have to be listened to.
The next 3 games are huge and they are the difference between me believing we can do it, to me believing we will.

28th December 2018 at 9:57 am #30193We need to relax
We have been here before and fooked it up.
6 points clear at Christmas 4 years ago and we know what happened. So much football left to be played
Absolutely ridiculous to write city off. The next two games can change everything
I’ll think we have a chance of winning it when there’s 5 games left and we are in the mix
Two very difficult games coming up. 4 points from these two be massive. I’m just enjoying watching us play. We are in a great run but it’s far to early to get over excited

28th December 2018 at 10:55 am #30208Spot on Sean me old mucker, like you I’ve seen us in this position before & it’s almost like I expect us to falter once again. To be fair we do look to be made of tougher stuff these days but with the quality c$ty have I fully expect them to overtake us with games to spare. No doubt we are in a great position & look good but it only takes a couple of games & it all changes. C$ty won’t stay in this slump for long & I’ll only believe we will win it when it’s almost mathematically impossible to lose it or we are very unlikely to lose it (you know what I mean).

28th December 2018 at 10:58 am #30210I havent forget spurs either but like us I don’t think hey have the depth to compete in a couple of major comps like the EPL & C/L. C$ty will get players back & go on a long winning streak, you can bet on that.

28th December 2018 at 11:33 am #30218AnonymousIt’s almost like being ahead of them causes more problems than it’s worth, for you guys 😛
Yes, we’ve been here before and we’ve messed it up before. It’s definitely something I think about. I know it’s something Klopp thinks about too, as he repeats “we focus on the next game only”, over and over. That’s the winners mentality.
None of this changes the fact that we’re favourites. Whether can go on to take a bigger lead, or go through a slump and end up in 3rd, there’s no getting away from that fact.
I don’t think I need to relax, nor anyone else on here though. I’m enjoying the ride and I think everyone else is too. I think nil reads these pages but since he can’t post, we don’t know how he’s handling this but it’s thoroughly enjoyable stuff. No matter what happens here, Klopp has built a great team with a strong spine. We’ve broken a few of our own little records, we’re still in the CL. We’ve got some real nail-biters coming up, ya we’re going to be sweating and maybe even sulking soon but this is what we want from supporting our team.
I truly believe that Klopp is going to become a Liverpool legend some day. It might be this season, or it might be the next. We’re getting better every year under him and that’s all you can ask for. I think we’re starting to get that fear factor back, with a twist. Teams are afraid of our attack but I think it’s our defence that really hurts their morale. There’s a sense of inevitability when we’re laying siege to teams now. It’s the exact opposite to how we would feel when we were 2 – 0, shitting ourselves.
