“Michael Carrick has been appointed caretaker while the club searches for an interim manager in the short-term.
The club will then look for a permanent replacement next summer and Neville has backed Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino as the right choice.
He said on Sky Sports: “I think Mauricio Pochettino – although he’d never say it – he’d leave to come to Man United on a five-year deal tomorrow.
“He’d look at that group of players, he’d look at the club and he’d realise he’d probably be able to achieve more than he wants at Man United in terms of a project.
“At PSG you are on season by season. ‘You’ve got to win the Champions League or you’re out’ type of model. I don’t think that suits Pochettino.
“I think he would absolutely come to Man Utd on a five-year deal, with backing behind him. How he’d fit in with the current coaches who are still there and left, I’m not sure.”

21st November 2021 at 3:25 pm #189376“Manchester United could turn to Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone with Ed Woodward a huge admirer.” Express
Now that would be interesting.😊

21st November 2021 at 3:35 pm #189377Saw this on the United page: 😊
“Found on Twitter:
“Ronaldo joined Madrid, Mourinho got fired. Ronaldo joined Juventus, Sarri, Allegri and Pirlo got fired. Ronaldo returned to United and Ole just got fired. Don’t look at me like that, these are facts.”

21st November 2021 at 3:44 pm #189379Even though Keane wouldn’t happen, be great if it did. Get the Amazon team in for an “All or nothing series”. That’d be good popcorn watching.

21st November 2021 at 4:11 pm #189382I’m not saying rush into an appointment lads. Totally understand carrick coming in but then looking for another interim manager??? Like who will that be? Get someone in until the summer then let him go? Get carrick until you find a manager. The summer is 6 months away. Utd have only played 12 league games.
So whet will the summer bring? Are they waiting for someone to get sacked?
So poch?? Why not go for him now if he will leave psg as Neville says.

21st November 2021 at 4:17 pm #189385Sean, United clearly don’t think the names that they might want will be available until the Summer. They still have to find an interim Manager and they have a big CL game on Tuesday hence Carrick.

21st November 2021 at 4:35 pm #189389Sean I think/hope it’s as simple as them not wanting to make the same mistake with Carrick that they made with Ole. As in, they don’t want Carrick to be the interim manager but they know they want one in until they can get their man in the summer. Carrick is literally just there until they can find an interim manager. I don’t know how else they could have handled it. They maybe could have waited with sacking Ole until they had an interim lined up but what message does that send? They’ve already waited far too long to sack him. That they had no succession plan is criminal but right here and now, I have no problem with this temporary solution.

21st November 2021 at 4:36 pm #189390I know that nine. You keep saying about carrick which I understand but nothings clear as you say. So now they look for an interim manager to replace the interim manager 😂 I find it hilarious to be honest as it’s they ridiculous
I wouldn’t believe Gary Neville either. Telling us last week no matter what utd would stick with ole
Ed fair enough. Don’t get it myself? Do who comes in until the summer?

21st November 2021 at 4:48 pm #189394Best to look as Carrick as caretaker manager right now. Whether utd can appoint an interim until end of season we will find out. However that pans out it is massively important for utd that they get the appointment of next full time manager right.

21st November 2021 at 5:07 pm #189400They definitely need their identity back and 4-4-2 system; heard from a fan earlier this afternoon speak about this and agree. I don’t know who they’d go for in the long-run, but a big personality is needed and somebody able to handle man-management and egos.

21st November 2021 at 5:13 pm #189403Sean, I think the Ed has provided the perfect summary in his post @ 4:35pm I think it was United’s original intention to wait until the Summer before deciding whether to replace Ole or not and circumstances overtook them rumour is that Laurent Blanc could be the interim Manager?
Thinking back to Hiddink and Rafa at Chelsea coming in as Interim Managers Steve Holland took over until they came in which is not dissimilar to the current United situation.
But yeah you’re right it does look messy.

21st November 2021 at 5:14 pm #189405Nil that’s bollocks about the 442 it’s nostalgia that’s all, fergie adapted to 433 after Jose came to prem league you have to evolve with the times and that’s what fergie always did and why he was the boss.

21st November 2021 at 6:25 pm #189427Well first time I have seen a club interview with manager after being sacked/dismissed/relieved of duties, take your pick 😉
Clearly upset and can’t help feel for him but If utd are in a better place now it is because of the players brought in under his tenure for net spend of 300m plus and I personally dont see much credit due to him honestly, as harsh as that sounds.

21st November 2021 at 6:32 pm #189430Lucky I’ve accidentally thumbed up your earlier comment as I was curious as to who thumbed it up. It’s ‘Bollocks’ right? Personally, there’s nothing wrong with ‘A’ type of formation as long as it works for them and it’s a winning formula.
What I was alluding to was a system United used that worked for them and made them successful in the 90s. They had a distinction about them playing 2 strikers and 2 banks of 4.

21st November 2021 at 6:39 pm #189433Should never have lasted as long as he did. He was always an interim manager. The board picked the easy option of keeping him on, then probably thought increasingly throwing money at it would make things work.
Again, they move on a manager shortly after giving them a contract, and are left again like a rabbit in the headlights and don’t know what to do next. And now they can’t go to the “former player” option because they’ve now used that option up and there seem to be no other former players suitable. So there’ll be two interims. What a mess.

21st November 2021 at 6:49 pm #189435Yeah nil, I understood and it’s bollocks mate. it’s 2021 what formations worked in 99 for completely different squad in what was in effect a completely different league is irrelevant.
Sure utd need an identity but that needs to be based on the players they have today and the opposition today.
They didn’t have a distinction of playing 442 then either as pretty much every team played it nil, but as utd had the best players they usually were best at playing it.
It’s the past bud and that fan you listened to earlier seems to be living in the past that’s why I think it is nostalgic bollocks 😉

21st November 2021 at 7:33 pm #189437Lucky, that has been spoken about re what would be deemed as outdated formation/s tactics. A lot has been said about the examples of Pep’s high pressing game and the gegen-pressing. I do think the wheel a little bit has been reinvented and it’s not like teams never knew how to attack, long before the Premier League.
At the very least though, it’s an identity and something both City and Liverpool would be accustomed to and associated with.
Van Gaal and Ole didn’t really have in fairness any identity about them. Jose in spite of his trophy success was a miss-fit for United.
I hope they as much as it pains me to say find somebody with a bit of rock-n-rock about them and at least play attractive football. 🙂

21st November 2021 at 8:43 pm #189441Yeah nil, whoever comes in now needs to be a progressive manager able to get the best out of players like sancho and van de beek. Very good players at utd, give them a very good manager and its certain they will challenge again sooner rather than later.
