Ralf Rangnick is close to finalising a deal to become Manchester United interim manager until the end of the season.

Discussions are ongoing over a deal that would also see Rangnick remain at the club for two years beyond the end of the season in a consultancy role.

Rangnick, 63, is one of the most respected names in German football and is currently manager of sports and development for Lokomotiv Moscow.

Yeah I think it’s a bit odd maybe he just wants to ensure he has authority with players in short term if it is clear he will have some say on the long term, I don’t know, but its a rather unorthodox solution.

I’m confused. Why would a new manager be unhappy with someone like Rangnick helping in a consultancy role? Modern day coaches work with all kinds of football directors, heads of recruitments etc. Obviously, they’d just sack him if it created tension. Mountain out of a mole hill.

I agree with that Ed, and his current role is head of sports and development at lokomotiv Moscow so it seems he prefers that kind of role himself otherwise I presume he would have stayed in management. Seems he likes broader control over the direction of the club than being a coach.

Yeah hopefully Lucky. About time the likes of Woodward are removed from footballing decisions at board level. This is a big plus, for me. Like he says in Fab’s tweet above, that also means the players won’t see him as a short term person but as someone who will be around even after the summer. That can only be a good thing and won’t allow players to hide away.

Banjo I DO think he would leave PSG to go to utd I think utd wouldn’t have bothered approaching PSG if they were not informed of that. I think PSG have blocked it simple as that.

The ONLY reason they changed tact last few days MUST have been because a little birdie told them their number one target for permanent manager would be open to moving mid season. They would have been stupid to not have tried! Now they know for sure they have to wait, which is what they thought in first place, they have hired an appropriate interim, which again IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Honestly banjo I have no love for united and will banter them every chance I get but you are full of crap here, I understand what love does to a man though so I understand 🤣

It’s been a tough year for Chucky to be fair.

– Spurs amongst the first teams in the new European Conference League which suddenly makes the Europa look like an elite competition
– His favourite ever Spurs player wants to go to one of his least favourite teams in City but is not allowed
– Levy makes such a mess of the managerial search in the summer that he makes Woodward look like a genius
– They get hammered at home by a Utd side who literally everyone else was smashing

And now Poch dreams of joining the team he dislikes more than any other but is not allowed, for now anyway. We’re all here for you Chuck
