29th August 2017 at 4:05 pm #4411PSG aren’t messing about are they? All these record tv deals and revenues in the Prem and it’s a team from the French League blowing everyone else out of the water. If there was any doubt before, surely Mbappe to PSG would all but confirm the death of FFP?

29th August 2017 at 4:35 pm #4412Ed, seemingly the deal for Mbappe is a year loan prior to buying which you would think is something that UEFA will be looked my to outlaw going forwards?

29th August 2017 at 4:38 pm #4413Maverick 1973, I believe more than ever we have more power and freedom to compete in the transfer market.
The fees have spiralled from the scale we’ve already adjusted ourselves to but there seems to be more money than ever and should we get hold of these two signings and strengthen a year after that with Kieta, we’d be more on par to compete properly on the pitch against the big boys.
I’m just pleased we’ve come this far considering many years ago, some crazy rumour started about us guys signing Zidane!

29th August 2017 at 8:21 pm #4414Nil-Everybody in the EPL has money mate,is just the case of spending a chunk on a great player rather than spending tens of millions of £££ on a few players.

30th August 2017 at 8:48 am #4425Ox now seemingly doesn’t want the Chelsea move and prefers Liverpool deal. Bit surprised by that. Chelsea move means he gets to stay in London and if the reported £200k a week is even in the right ball park, he’s unlikely to get anywhere near that at Liverpool. On the other hand, fair play to him if the preference is based on wanting more playing time which he’ll surely get at Pool

30th August 2017 at 8:54 am #4427999, yeah I noticed the Mbappe loan thing. Still, all that says to me is that FFP is easily bypassed. Loaning a player who is probably valued at 200 mill EUR in today’s market is just madness!

30th August 2017 at 10:25 am #4429Anonymousnot quite sure why ox would prefer a move to liverpool over chelsea. i get that he wants to play CM instead of wing back, but he would surely get more playing time at chelsea? at liverpool they already have henderson, can, wijnaldum, lallana, coutinho (for now) in the central roles and have also agreed to sign keita next season. ox wont get near that team. i also dont get why chelsea would want to sign drinkwater over Ox to play in that central role. very strange all round.
i am also incredibly concerned about spurs. why the fuck do we do this every time! just sign the players you want. stop messing about trying to save a couple million pounds. we need to take the next step and right now every team around is stronger and we’ve done nothing. the defence was the last position that needed strengthening. i appreciate we’ve added depth to it but we’ve done nothing in midfield or up top and left ourselves with absolutely no pace in the team which is key to the system we play.

30th August 2017 at 10:53 am #4430Thing is Paxo, who can we get? Don’t get me wrong, I hear you Bruv, but there aren’t many players who would improve our 1st 11 who would genuinely come to the Spuds. Messi? Ronaldo II? Sanchez (the other one)?
With both the wage structure we have, and the 1st 11 we have when all are fit, all we can realistically aim for are youngish players who understand if they’re good enough they’ll get a chance.
We’ve got a new 3rd choice goalie, fair enough but we’re pretty well covered.
Full-backs? Well, Trippier & Walker II aren’t too bad from what I’ve seen and we’ve got the lad from PSG very likely to be coming in…. Davies and Rose on the other side with rumors of the lad from Fulham, again, pretty well covered I reckon.
Midfielders…. Dier, Winks, Dembele, Wannayayayayamammaa… all fighting for 2 spots… again, who could we get to go there that would improve that 4 and is up for the challange of fighting for a spot
Attacking midfilders… Son, Ali, Erickson, Lamala, Edwards and possibly Barkley… apart from City, who would you say has better coverage in that area than us Spuds? (We’ll just pretend Disco Sisiisssikskkkoo doesn’t exist!)
Strikers… Harry and Janssen… okay, we both know we could improve on Jansen (still think there is a bit more to come from him) but who want’s to come and try to dislodge Super Harry?

30th August 2017 at 11:17 am #4432Anonymousi’m hearing this a lot from spurs fans and i couldnt disagree more. our first XI is very good and i agree we will struggle to improve it a huge amount. but its our squad depth thats the problem. at the moment we are bringing sissoko and janssen off the bench. lamela hasn’t played for nearly a year and who knows when he’ll play again. winks i think has a great future but if dembele gets injured for a long period can he step up? all teams are finding ways to improve their first XI and their squad. a lot of what you have said above is based on players we’ve been linked with. if we do sign them, why do we wait so long? lets be honest, i think trippier is decent, but he isnt as good as walker. then we have walker-peters as backup with one senior game to his name. edwards seems to have disappeared from the squad. i was talking to someone recently who said he disagreed with us signing sanchez because it might upset dier. who gives a shit. we cant just keep the same players hoping they stay happy and never move on. we need to add to the squad and we need to add competition, not just backup. we have the money, just like every other team does. i’m sure we will buy players but why do we always leave it so late. we always drop points early on and then it takes the signings longer to integrate. we’ve already dropped more points at home than we did last season. its nothing to do with playing at wembley. its because we have no one that can come on and change a game when its not going well.

30th August 2017 at 11:42 am #4434Anonymousthe players we have been linked with are fine – aurier, barkley, gray. would be happy with all of them. its the way we do business that annoys me. leave it late to sign them for a slightly reduced fee but sacrifice points in the process. i’m confident we will sign players but the last two seasons we have missed out on winning the league because of our poor starts to the season because we get our business done too late. 5 points dropped already for the same reason.

30th August 2017 at 11:49 am #4435Certainly can’t argue with the “timing” element of your comments.
What do you think about the Pool lad we’ve been linked with? Origami?
Are you talking about Gray the Fox or a different Gray? (Hopefully not Andy Gray!)

30th August 2017 at 12:15 pm #4437The question of “who do we get” is a very valid. It makes me appreciate our Manager in seemingly aware of teams in Europe along with Bundeliga experience. Andy Robertson from Hull was a rare type of switch as in the modern day as far as English clubs from the lower leagues go, the players don’t appear to be deemed as good enough. Continental players always seem likely, but in our case, we’ve not always been able to get hold of finished articles.
The more diversed you are in your selections and ability to scout, the more options you leave yourself with in a highly competitive market (as far as clubs from the top flight go).

30th August 2017 at 12:19 pm #4438Too right New-Nil, but as I personally don’t watch a great deal of European football, my own scouting network is down to a couple of old woggles I kept from my youth. I would like to think my Spuds have a better system in place! 🙂
Anyway, less than 48 hrs to go, and Levy has set his alarm clock for 4 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, bargain basement, here we come!
