£90m is no longer an earth moving amount of money though. Exactly, give Barca the middle finger.

11th August 2017 at 2:54 pm #3514Id tell Barca to do one and tell Coutinho he’s to give us one more season then he can leave next summer if that’s what he wants.
There’s not enough time left in this window to find and buy replacements. The one problem I can see though is how will Coutinho react to his?
Will he knuckle down and play away or will he strop?
I can see Klopp talking him on board for another year.
You have to remember Klopp spent his time at Dortmund having his best players bought from
under him every season. I’m not sure he’d put up with it again._____________________________

11th August 2017 at 3:08 pm #3515You lot probably know better than me but he doesn’t seem like the type to kick up a fuss and sulk if he doesn’t get his move. I think he’ll get his head down like Suarez and Ronaldo did for one more season

11th August 2017 at 4:11 pm #3521AnonymousSuarez and Ronaldo wanted out but, correct me if I’m wrong, didn’t go as far as handing in a transfer request.
Once that has happened you might as well let them go. If Klopp could have persuaded him to stay he would not have handed in the request.

11th August 2017 at 4:24 pm #3526Coutinho looks like a good lad, I think he’ll buckle down, well offer him an attractive contract if he is doing well by Christmas with a deal to add another 50-100k on his contract like we did with Saurez in a bid to entice him to stay on.

11th August 2017 at 4:31 pm #3527I don’t have the confidence that he’d knuckle down and give us a ‘Suarez’ season. I reckon there would be alot more of these mysterious back injuries. I have no evidence to back this up, but when he pulled out of the trip to Ireland last week, the writing was on the wall. Injury….really?
It couldn’t happen at a worse time, 24 hours before the season starts with a crucial game coming on Tuesday, 2 weeks till the close of the window and with one of his possible replacements in the team out for 3 months. Bollocks to it!
I know the club are denying they have received a request, but it’s on it’s way. Coutinho is NOT a worldbeater, but he is a flair player who will be very difficult to replace. Think he might have bitten off more than he can chew at Barca though.

11th August 2017 at 4:50 pm #35302018 is a world cup year… does anyone think Coutinho won’t try to fight for a place in the national team? Like it or not, he will play well for Liverpool because he wants to be selected for the world cup. So I do not see the logic of FSG entertaining all this without a solid replacement to Couts.
The logic is that Barca does not have much more cards to play with. They and whoever Couts’ agent is have badly advised him to play his trump card at this juncture so near the start of the season thinking they can play the same trick they did to us before. Sure Liverpool may sell him but it will mean the end of the little goodwill supporters/fans has towards them.
I may be biased in how I see this. But the logic does not add up. Couts will knuckle down and bugger off next year with the correct price for his talent.

11th August 2017 at 4:58 pm #3531I really hope you’re right, Orbane, and I hadn’t considered the World Cup aspect of this. He has blown his good standing at the club though, hasn’t he?
I did mention on Teamtalk the other week, that he and his family have been broken in to 3 times in the last year or so, and consequently are not happy in the city. This is contrary to reports I’ve read that say how much he loves the city admittedly, but those burglaries can’t have helped his and his wife’s mindset.

11th August 2017 at 5:18 pm #3533If he gets sold by FSG without Kloops blessing then Klopp will walk, he will not happy, he came to Liverpool to step up from his time at Dortmund, not to be reminded of those times when Munich walked in and took his best players.

11th August 2017 at 5:33 pm #3535Mwake, I hope for your sake that isn’t the case. Liverpool losing both Klopp and Coutinho could be disastrous. As you say though, Klopp must be used to losing his best players from his time at Dortmund. They were always being sold off to bigger clubs there

11th August 2017 at 5:56 pm #3537It’s too early but if reports are true that Phills bad back is connected to his attitude then that’s not good. I also think it was in bad taste to submit transfer request 24 hours before the season starts, worst timing ever! this can’t be the first of this internally, I’m pretty sure that Coutinho and Klopp have had candid conversations about this and PC must have known that Liverpool won’t sell. He’s obviously getting bad advice from his agent and Barca. I’ve always seen PC as a nice guy, I hope reports of pretending to have a bad back are false.

11th August 2017 at 6:32 pm #3540Saurez requested a transfer Alfie mate. I agree with ginger but everything is coming out now
I’d sell him. Or if it’s going to unsettle us. Typical shite we don’t need before our pl opener
Couthino is no were near the standard Saurez and Torres were when they left. He’s still quite inconsistent and takes far to long to recover from injury but he’s a very key player. If it was may, get as much as you can and get him out but it’s 20 days till window closes. We have hardly streghtend at all. He be a big blue but bigger and better players have left.

11th August 2017 at 7:02 pm #3543That’s the worry Sean. Even without needing to replace Coutinho, Liverpool seem to have really struggled to get their targets in. The only good thing about selling him this year rather than next is that you can definitely offer CL football for any potential replacement. There’s no guarantee you’ll have that to offer in 12 months time.

11th August 2017 at 7:04 pm #3544Alfie, I’m not so sure. Is there much of a difference between formally handing in a request and telling your club you want to leave? Isn’t the latter just a sneaky way of doing the same thing whilst not forfitting any due loyalty bonuses?

11th August 2017 at 7:28 pm #3545Even though Saurez was of questionable character, the thing I admired about him is that he was 100% professional in training and on the pitch with regard to his work-rate. Pretending to be not well never goes down well with people. Who can say? Maybe PC genuinely does have a sore back…
