30th August 2017 at 1:38 pm #4445Ed, yep UEFA definitely need to close that door it’s nonsense to have players like Mbappe going out on loan simply to get around FFP.

30th August 2017 at 1:41 pm #4448Aurier is a very good player albeit a bit of a head case.
Hopefully the problems he got into in France in assaulting a Policeman acts as a wake up call and he sorts himself out from here on in.

30th August 2017 at 1:50 pm #4450Not too sure what can be done with regards to the “loan with option to buy” scam that PSG are now pulling. They may have been the first to try and get a nation state to buy a player (Naymer) but they’re not the first to do the loan/buy thing, if UEFA make a ruling on that, a lot of deal could be in jeopardy. Off course, PSG would just ignore it anyway as they do with the FFP!
So, my Spuds with arguably the best defense in the League, go out and strengthen that area, while ignoring the need for people to stick it in the onion bag… 1 RB and 2 x CB, with a lot of talk about the LB from Fulham…

30th August 2017 at 2:40 pm #4452UEFA can’t sort things out retrospectively but they can going forwards and 200m Euro players shouldn’t be moving on loan in order to circumvent FFP.
I’m sure we’ll see some movement on this from UEFA going forwards.

30th August 2017 at 2:54 pm #4454Chucky @ 12:19, I’m in the same position as you there. The reason for that from my end is just levels of interest and finding the time, though I do take an interest in the lower English leagues.
Just touching on that point made earlier, I think we are fortunate to have Jurgen Klopp as I felt with Brendan Rodgers, he was a little out of his depth in that area and felt with Kenny Dalglish being out of the game for a long time before his return to Liverpool was a little outdated in the scouting and probably have Comolli more to thank for.

30th August 2017 at 6:23 pm #4456£40m for Chamberlain !! The world’s gone mad. Liverpool have had their pants well and truly pulled down in that deal.

30th August 2017 at 6:42 pm #4457I think he’ll be a decent signing for Pool but £40mil is an awful lot for someone who has really struggled to live up to the early promise he showed. Another ex Southampton player then for them!

30th August 2017 at 6:52 pm #4458Summary for me as we near closure of this particular window is the floodgates have been wide open, and from the influx of Television money, there is less of a gulf in the PL between the so-called top and bottom clubs.
There is more of a level playing field and a domino effect, for example:
Everton’s 45m purchase on Sigurdsson allows Swansea some freedom. Some clubs too can afford to play a bit of ransom or don’t necessarily have to sell unless their hand is forced with a tempting offer.

30th August 2017 at 6:54 pm #4459I thought he was a decent player when he first came onto the scene but with Wenger
he has retrogressed maybe Klopp can do something with him, they promised Solanke game time and I dont really see him playing too much._____________________________

30th August 2017 at 6:55 pm #4460Really Ed, personally I dont think he’s nowhere near good enough to get in to Liverpool’s first team. Creates nothing and is hardly a game changer is he. He’s worse than Barkley lol. I can’t see any Liverpool fan being pleased with that kind of outlay for such a bang average player. Christ we have just sold Nasri for the cost of a pint and a packet of crisps and he’s twice the player Chamberlain is. Is Kenny back in charge of transfers at Anfield?

30th August 2017 at 7:15 pm #4461Well you say that Jim, but Jordan Pickford moved for 30m this window.
I think Ox is actually quite an under-rated talent. He’s had his progress hampered with injuries the last 2 years, but he has more to offer than he’s shown lately. I’m hearing 35m, which for an experienced England international, 24 years of age, is probably a bargain in today’s market!

30th August 2017 at 7:37 pm #4462I think he’ll be decent Jim, not great but decent. Liverpool need depth in their squad and he’s not a bad player. Liverpool in recent seasons often struggled as soon as they got a couple of injuries or the likes of Mane went away to Afcon. Unlike the Manchester clubs, Liverpool just don’t have that squad depth and I think Ox could be a player who can help address that with his versatility

30th August 2017 at 8:08 pm #4463Sorry I just can’t see it JC and Ed. I agree about said depth and player prices look at Evans and Drinkwater!! But I just don’t think he’s good enough he’s just an average squad player. He’s no game changer is he? I would be really disappointed if we blew that much on him. And trust me we have blown more than most on some garbage players the last few years. Bony and Jovetic immediately spring to mind. I hear he’s a Liverpool fan, well if he really is he would not have joined you! To my mind Klopp needed to bring in quality not quantity. I hear Lamar is good. So are Lamar and Chamberlain good enough to replace Coutinio? Is he going to go or has John Henry opened up his wallet? Having said all that no doubt he will come on the pitch have a stormer and score the winner on the 9th Sep.

30th August 2017 at 8:14 pm #4465I don’t think this particular window would drastically be any different (to previous others), but any large amounts invested on a player naturally breeds high expectations – particularly if he’s brought in to address a specific playing area.
In light of Ox if it all comes to fruition, I am excited and at the same time intrigued as to who will play where and what will be ‘the best fit of players’ leading the starting 11.
Clearly competition is generated out of this which can be healthy keeping those selected on the pitch on their toes.
If new players don’t immediately adjust and hit the ground running, then the spotlight subsequently follows in an environment that is results driven, though when there’s a real array of talented players of which some already established, I don’t think from my point of view they’d be a hell of a lot of pressure for Ox to set the world alight.
Lightheartedly, I am still awaiting Van Dijk – it’s like enjoying a lovely starter, and main course, but left without the desert, lol 😀
No time for St Jim White’s Transfer Deadline Day tomorrow. Maybe though on the 11th hour, the ‘Christmas stocking’ is filled: with VVD! Hahaha 😀

31st August 2017 at 7:42 am #4469So, the last day of the transfer window… and still some big deals to be done!
Sanchez (the other one) to City?
Mahrez to wherever? Rumors are he’s left the training camp…
Drinkwater to Chelski?
Origami to Spuds?Anyway, like most, reckon Ox to Pool is a bit weird, think he would have got more game time at Chelsea, even if it wasn’t his preferred position. Can’t see him getting a huge amount of game time at Pool in a CM position, that’s for sure, and next year Pool are getting the Red Bull chap… Pool are certainly putting together a pretty handy squad, even if they lose Wee Phil.
