Interviewing all their top players and getting them to say how great it is that Sancho is staying within hours of Zorc’s announcement is all a bit desperate too. We all know they’ll sell if Utd stump up the cash. I just don’t think Utd will budge unless they bring the price down

12th August 2020 at 8:25 am #148640So, DaneII has been finally sorted with young W-P going the other way. All in all, a good deal for Spuds I think, and leaves us with the idea of a midfiled 3 of Lo Cecil, N-Dumb and DaneII next season in I strongly suspect will be a 4-3-3 formation of sorts (with Sonny, Sir Harry, A.Nother) playing up top. Like the sound of that to be honest. Just need to sort out the FB’s. Just about any two will do, they really couldn’t be any worse than what we’ve got now.

12th August 2020 at 9:27 am #148682Have you noticed, in more recent times that clubs, whoever they are pursue some young outstanding stars, some we have never heard of, no doubt the scouting system has, then in order to keep things at the boil the media print stories and have probably no clue to the reality of what is happening so we are fed a perpetual storyline. Pogba going to….. Sanchez signing this week….etc. I am not having a pop at Utd it happens to all teams, they just happen to be the name in the frame at the moment. I wish the media would give us fact based info. Nine caalled it correct earlier…..no deal is done until the player signs and it is announced on Official Club web site
That being the case. best to ignore all the waffle

12th August 2020 at 9:39 am #148691Brian, fans have always liked to hear about who their team may be signing. Papers like to sell papers and sites like people to click on them to make money. Pretty easy deduction to be made why many rumours are reported, some of which won’t happen or may even be completely made up.
I think you gave yourself the best advise with the last line.

12th August 2020 at 11:39 am #148770Let’s face it we love all the Summer transfer rumours even though we know 90% of them are complete nonsense.
Massive challenge for Jose next season trying to get Spurs back in the CL with the Club’s above Spurs having considerably more money to invest in the transfer market and likely to be even stronger next season together with Wolves having no European football which will make them a real top 4 threat.
Spurs best option of a return to the CL may rest on them winning the EL which they will be one of the favourites to do.

12th August 2020 at 12:14 pm #148795This is why it’s called debate… 🙂
YooUtd finished where they are due to a very nice run since Dancing Queen signed in January, they won’t repeat that for 38 games next season, not with that defence. Chelski are buying loads of kids from inferior leagues who might improve their goals scored column but not really doing anything about their goals against column (although that is likely to change).
If both the transfer window closed and the season started tomorrow, I’d fancy our chances for 3rd. Shitty football all season, granted, but Maureen will grind out the results. There’s no way us Spuds are going to have anywhere near as a shitty season with injuries next season as we did with last, easily 10-15 more points than last year.

12th August 2020 at 12:40 pm #148815Ed, cannot comment on Mkhitaryan as cannot really remember the circumstances but Dembele kicked up a right stink after being told he wouldn’t be sold.
From what I’ve read Sancho is unlikely to do that apparently.
Some Sky reported has said after BvB said Sancho would remain at the club for next season:
“Sancho is not the kind of character who will kick up a fuss, put in a transfer request or develop a mysterious injury to force through a move.
“It would suit United for him to agitate, but while they still have not actually made an offer for him, why would he?
“The player can only keep his head down and keep working hard, looking ahead to the new season with Dortmund.
“He is young, he has a great thing going there, and in the background he knows most of Europe’s big clubs – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain – would love to sign him at some stage.
“He can afford to sit tight and watch how things develop between the clubs.”
I can understand why Utd fans are clinging onto the hope of signing him he would give the club a massive lift but I think you (and Sean!) will be disappointed. If you do I will admit I was wrong, congratulate you but also tell you I never rated him in the first place!! 😉

12th August 2020 at 1:31 pm #148850Chucky, I wasn’t writing off Spurs chances of getting back into the top 4, I do think it will probably be one of Jose’s biggest challenges to date though given his transfer budget and who he will be able to buy v the Club’s around him and who they will be able to buy.
Additionally Spurs have the rigours of the EL to cope with and playing on Thursdays and Sundays can often be detrimental to PL performances and results.
As an aside I’m not sure the Bundesliga is an inferior League to the PL bar maybe Liverpool and City I think the teams at the top end of the Bundesliga are probably as good if not better than most of the teams under Liverpool and City.
Ziyech a kid at 27 even Werner will be 25 next season?
But you’re right if Chelsea don’t strengthen defensively they will struggle to get in the top 4 next season but given that you and I know that I think there’s every chance Frank knows that too.?
The transfer window will play a significant part in who finishes where next season and it’s difficult to make a truly educated guess until all the business is done.

12th August 2020 at 1:59 pm #148868Didn’t realize Ziyech was that old… and from the Dutch league to boot.
Proof is in the pudding, and you lot are buying a lot of custard, you just need the rest of the trifle.
Reckon the only thing we can agree on is got to wait until business is done before a call can be made, but I think the big difference between our two gangs is we missed a lot of 1st 11 through injury, players who we all know what they can do plus signing another experience Prem player vs your boys who are buying players outside the League. Right now though I’d fancy our chances…

12th August 2020 at 3:42 pm #148934Chucky, Kante missed 50% of Chelsea’s games last season , Loftus Cheek as injured for most of the season , Pulasic was out for large parts of the season as was Hudson Odoi and Abraham both Tomori and Rudiger missed large chunks of the season and Gilmour missed pretty much all of the restart a d won’t be fit to start the season and neither will Pulasic. All those injuries cost us points particularly the Kante injury.
Spurs arent the only team to suffer from injuries last season buddie.
Yeah Ziyech is probably too old and rubbish coming from the Dutch League but we’ll see.?
Circa £80m for both Werner and Ziyech looks like pretty good business to me but the proof of the pudding etc…..????

12th August 2020 at 4:33 pm #148972One thing that is becoming clear if the reports are true is that Real and Barca dont have the big money. They have to sell first. Reason: Large debt and reduced income. Both rely considerably on crowd revenue.

12th August 2020 at 7:06 pm #149072Threeps, to clarify, I don’t think we’ll get him. I said in the beginning of the window that we’d chase him all summer and end up with one of Coman, Dembele or Costa. It’s looking very likely to be the case now. I’m fine either way. If we get him we’ve got one of the best young players around. If we don’t, it’s understandable given the current global pandemic and its effect on finances. Just one of those things

12th August 2020 at 8:12 pm #149115Adlab..that is true, finances are tight for the “big” clubs now. but they have lived on being superior to all others for so long they now resent the new wealth in football. I do believe this also will change within next five years along with football as we know it

14th August 2020 at 1:38 pm #150386Liverpool buying Thiago for £27m seems like a no brainerto me at that fee and he would add to Liverpool’s midfield.

14th August 2020 at 1:44 pm #150393Have to disagree BB, we’ve already seen clubs splash a huge wedge this summer, despite the dramatic drop in turnover for all clubs (news is breaking the Will.I.Am is getting 220k a week to play for the Goonies!), give tell next summer and it will all be back, or possibly even worse, to normal.
