Joe Biden to be signed up urgently. Anybody else have the misfortune to watch that Presidential debate? Trump is just impossible. Get him out!

2nd October 2020 at 11:07 am #167909Anonymous67, the debate was scandalous. It’s a shame that Trump is going to be unable to participate in the next round of debates, where they have had to change things up because precious baby had one useful tactic in taking on Biden, disruption.
A I watched it I just thought to myself “Obama would nail him to the floor”, Biden isn’t witty enough really.
Anyway though, I see that Brewster is off to SU for 23.5M with 15% sell on and buy back clauses installed. Not bad for both parties I think. I havent seen a huge amount of Brewster but he can certainly finish. I just hope he is good enough to be a starter for them immediately.
The money is of course welcome for us, we didn’t go spending money on Jota and Thiago without knowing deals like this and maybe some others were going through. I guess Shaqiri is next, I hope we get something for him but I have a bad feeling he’ll be extremely low money or a loan deal.

2nd October 2020 at 11:39 am #167913AnonymousHe has never played in the PL Sean but last season he proved himself to be of Championship level. Now that may seem like a joke but for a kid coming out of a youth setup, it’s huge. 10 C goals from 20 appearances but what they are mostly paying for here is the prospect.
I don’t think they’ve paid crazy money considering that in a few years they may well have a very decent PL level striker. You never know, they may even have him scoring goals very very soon. I had heard we were looking to sell him to a team who planned to start him from the get go.

2nd October 2020 at 11:41 am #167914AnonymousWorth considering that as i say I think the fee is pretty good for both parties, I thought the same for both Ings and Ibe. I was right about one and very wrong about the other but that’s the way it goes.

2nd October 2020 at 12:37 pm #167916AnonymousIf he scored 10 PL goals at the age of 20, first season in the PL, he’d be worth a fair bit more than that. I mean, they’d obviously not sell him but you know what I mean.
I don’t think he’ll score 10 PL goals this season but I wouldn’t write it off, if they actually start him often and he is ok injury-wise.
Sheffield United are in a bit or a weird place this season, so far. They have lost all 3 opening matches and they might be feeling the pinch of desperation. They were linked with Brewster before this of course, so it’s not a panic buy but they didn’t seem to want to pay what we were asking but life outside the PL is a lot more of a dent than 23.5m.
We can agree to disagree regards the fee. I can see why you’d say it’s mad money, had I watched Brewster more, maybe I’d agree with you. I will watch him though because he’s now an FPL prospect.

5th October 2020 at 8:51 am #168129As we head into the final day of the transfer window, I’m just going to remind people what I said about a potential Sancho deal earlier in the summer. Sean, you have a lot to answer for unless there’s a big final twist!

5th October 2020 at 11:15 am #168140What bothers me about United is the lack of planning when it comes to building a foundation for a real team. As it is now we have both De Gea and Henderson as keepers. A team should have one undisputed number one. Henderson coming back should mean De Gea sold.
The Sancho hunt was/is pointless. Of course he’s good, but we already have Martial, Rashford and Greenwood. Who would Sancho replace and why? All three of them have shown enough promise to be trusted. To hunt Dembele is equally pointless IMO.We need to look at defence, as Maguire needs someone with a bit of pace next to him. Lindelof isn’t that guy, and Bailly is injured too often.
We also need a proper leader with a bit of steel in midfield. Pogba is never going to be that guy. I wish we’d just cut our losses and sell him back to Juventus or whereever he wants to go. Perhaps Partey from Atletico would be a good shout, if he had any interest of leaving a well run club with a very good manager to come to United. Thinking about it, perhaps we should go for Simeone as well._____________________________

5th October 2020 at 11:28 am #168141All good points Srd. The goalkeeper situation is just a joke. Not only do we have two good goalkeepers, neither of which will accept being second choice for long (which inevitably leads to problems) we also have Romero who is a very good backup keeper who is no longer a backup, so will also be kicking up a fuss!
You look at how ruthless Chelsea were when bringing back Courtois. See you later Cech, thanks for everything! Real Madrid when the legendary Casillas was no longer cutting it? Dropped! Now, De Gea is far from everything that is wrong with Utd and nor do I think Henderson is our saviour. It’s the fact that, like Srd says, we just lack any coherent plan as a club. No direction whatsoever.

5th October 2020 at 12:19 pm #168142This is the huge problem with owners that will still makes lots of money out of the club brand leaving less incentive to actually target the bigger trophies. Getting top 4 becomes the end rather the a means to the end. There’s actually an argument to say Utd would have been better off without the CL this year because it may have woken the board up. Instead, they can reassure themselves that because they finished in the top 4, things are ok and there’s no crisis.

5th October 2020 at 1:52 pm #168146AnonymousSo, Utd are signing a very offensive LB, to “complement” their very defensive RB? Oh and they are signing Cavani also, because.
Look, the new LB might be a change of philosophy and I’d actually have said this was the way to go for them, a long long time ago but it doesn’t seem like they have any kind of strategy at all. It’s like Woodward has gotten the latest Football Manager and has decided to go for Telles because he’s good in that.
At least ye Utd fans are seeing 2 quality offense based players come in but jesus christ, why is Lindelof still a thing?

5th October 2020 at 1:59 pm #168149AnonymousSrd you lads could have hired Ancelotti. I mean, I know he didnt do great with Everton last season in the end as Everton fell away badly but even though it’s only early days, you can see he’s probably going places with them.
I don’t think Ole is the man for Utd but the thing is, who’s to know with how crazy this season is. I don’t think Woodward is the man either and he’s much more of a problem in my book. I don’t know what manager could succeed under him, maybe one will but I don’t think it’s likely, without going absolutely insane in the market and getting really really lucky in that regard.
Ed, not that Im going to defend Utd’s keeper situation (it is a mess), there is one difference between Utd and the Chelsea and Real scenarios. De Gea should be in his prime, the other 2 lads were on their way down.
There really is no direction, no planning, no decision making going on there at all though and it’s all down to that clown Woodward.

What exactly do you mean by “should be in his prime” Mak? Do you mean in terms of age? If so, DDG turns 30 next month. Casillas was 31 when Mourinho was dropping him. DDG has not been at his best now for 2 years. As I said, changing Henderson for De Gea solves nothing for Utd. DDG is not the problem at all, despite his indifferent form. The goalkeeper situation is just one I chose to highlight the lack of strategy.

5th October 2020 at 2:59 pm #168163AnonymousYa, I meant by age. Im surprised that Casillas was kinda done at real by 31 though, thats younger than I had thought. I agree that De Gea has been bad a while, I am saying he should be in his prime, not that he is or even was recently.
Come to think of it, is the age of top keepers actually coming down over recent years? Back in the day there would be plenty of top keepers up to 35-38.
That’s the thing about De Gea now though, he’s been so bad for so long, he’s not wanted by any top clubs. Who would buy him now and for how much? Whatever the amount is, it’s an absolutely massive loss in value.

5th October 2020 at 3:06 pm #168164If I was DDG and had a defence in front of me like the current selection I would have the jitters also. I think Henderson would feel the same way
