9th September 2020 at 4:54 pm #165933I think City/Liverpool fans are assuming too much for the coming season. The league will be different this season and more teams will become smarter

9th September 2020 at 5:45 pm #165934Not all Brian. I see Liverpool being written off all over the place mate . By opposing fans and by our own .
A lot of fans quietly concerned about us this season .
Other teams have got stronger and we have added no one. City rightly the favourites in my view.

Utd finished the season well and arsenal seem to have a bit of balls these days
Everton have bought well
League is going to be the toughest it’s been in years.

10th September 2020 at 12:16 am #165936Anonymous“I like that some quarters are writing us off. Rightly so though as a few injuries and we are screwed”
Most are, by a long way. The thing is, it includes about half of our fans and look, this isnt at all a dig at anyone ,just to be absolutely clear because some of my most respected people in terms of football opinion have doubts about us but that doesn’t mean that I have to agree with them and I’ll just say that although I don’t think we’ll start very well, I think that we’ll get into our groove again and show everyone why we finished with 97 and then 99 points.
I’m going to go back to my own opinion when the previous season ended. We pushed City all the way and lost with an insane points tally. I told you all, after myself that we’d never have a better chance to win the PL. You think that there was something magical or serendipitous about a certain time and that it couldn’t be repeated… yet we absolutely destroyed that finish the season after. Now, 99 doesnt sound like much more but we were at walking pace eventually, unlike the 97 where it was a last day push.
Now, this summer everyone is spending and that draws envy from myself even as I make these points but they must catch up to us. I don’t agree that we’re maintaining our position well enough but maybe we’ll make 1-2 additions and thats all we need to continue to be the best team in the PL.
The only worries I have are the squad, not the first 11 but also the fact that we took our foot off the gas for so long. Our great finish could actually hurt us, as we’ve no momentum to carry into this season a nd we’ve not got the easiest start, with both Arsenal and Chelsea in the opening 3 games. Lets not even forget the newly promoted side who will be bouncing. It’s a recipe for and early disaster… but I know that after these 3 games, we’ll start grinding out the points and we will be unrelenting. People will remember soon enough, Sean.

10th September 2020 at 6:43 am #165937AnonymousMak, Liverpools first team are league and Champions league winners. as you’ve pointed out 97/ 99 points over last two seasons. The bar has been made exceptionally high by your own team, standards city struggled to cope with despite winning the title, you got it last year.
You’ve cleaned up with that squad… Yes I think you should have signed a few players… but you look at the players coming through and your doing a Chelsea In reverse. last year we relied massively on Abraham mount among others and were all hoping billy the kid comes back and bosses midfield. Liverpool simply need to rely on a little Lady Luck and bring your own youth team through.
The league is going to be really difficult this year, not least because of Corona, but also because I reckon nuinted will be in the mix and as others have pointed out, Spurs will be back, united had a barnstorming run after January, Everton signed Allen who I love watching play, and the likes of burnley and wolves are very very good teams. Chelsea added going forward but not at the back as far as im concerned, think we could struggle against top six sides…

10th September 2020 at 8:33 am #165941Mak, fair comments but Carragher and Neville are saying partially the same. It’s basically the same squad for 3 years. It’s need to freshen up.
We have a very tough start. Let’s see were we are after 5 games chum. Still time in the window

10th September 2020 at 9:51 am #165942Everyone will be chasing Liverpool and City again and Liverpool still have time to make a signing or two. City will probably make another couple of signings.
Chelsea despite the signings will take time to settle and I don’t honestly see a title challenge this season although I’m hoping we close the gap on the top two.
The big question imo is who wins the title out of Liverpool and City and that might depend on what happens for both Clubs in the transfer window between now and October 5th.

10th September 2020 at 1:12 pm #165947Anonymous” Liverpool simply need to rely on a little Lady Luck and bring your own youth team through. ”
Liverpool don’t have the kind of talent that Chelsea brought through though. We have a few lads who might turn into quality players alright but only 2 come to mind and one of them is so young that he’s not out of that stage where you don’t know whether he’s actually just reached his finished product faster than tohers or if he is a gem . I am talking about Harvey Elliot. Looks very promising but I’ve been fooled by this before.
I think our most promising would be Curtis Jones who may actually be a PL quality player this time next season. Again, it’s hard to know, I see so many flaws in his game but he has that something special about him where here and there he can mix it with the boys. he’s scored some important goals for a kid and they weren’t tap ins. That goal against Everton was great. So he replaces Lallana and he will do alright in that regard. That is a player we don’t need to replace.
“I think City/Liverpool fans are assuming too much for the coming season.”
I agree with you but not in the way you think. The assumption is that Liverpool will not win the league. Find someone who thinks they will and you’ll find 3 or 4 who assume they won’t. I definitely do not think we will definitely do it but my point is that we’ve had back to back club record points tallies and a CL win, why are people assuming that we’re going to not only fall away but finish 3rd or 4th? To be clear, I’m not saying they cant think this, Im asking why, thats all.
I do have my concerns about us and they are based upon what I said above and before, that you must try to improve and I don’t feel we’re doing that (so far, ask me again when the window has closed). The whole Alcantara situation makes me think that we’re unwilling to spend AT ALL, which is worrying, considering that Klopp named him as the one player he admires the most from the German league… It is just dangerous to go ahead with 3 CBs, or be totally unwilling to take such an opportunity. That does worry me but it does not flip me into thinking that Liverpool will finish 30 points lower than they did this season.
If any of this reads at all negatively, it really really isn’t. It is all inquisitive, not aggressive in intent. Feel free to have your position and I will have mine. I don’t think it’s arrogant to say that i think Liverpool will defend their title and if we don’t, no need for humble pie etc cause I’d really just be wrong and even then, I bet it would be because of our lack of investment.
Nine, it is probably a good time to play Chelsea alright but a good time to play us too I think. I’m just glad it isn’t the very first game, so we have a chance to shake off the barnacles.
Sean, as for where we are in 5 games, I worry about that but I think we’ll come back strong as ever.

10th September 2020 at 1:22 pm #165948AnonymousNine, for City to be favourites, I think they’d have to sign Koulibaly and we sign nobody. Maybe I’d still call us favourites, I dunno but that would be some scary stuff for us. Everyone disagrees with me thinking we’re favourites and that’s fine but everyone thought City would win the CL also. City were favourites for that too, while we were still in it too, for whatever reason.
Whatever happens, the PL will be much much richer this season. Utd look to be on the road back, especially if they get Sancho over the line. This would be a pain in the ass for me, as I have 3 Utd players lined up for my FPL team in GW 2-3, it would mean I’d have to replace Greenwood and that wouldn’t be ideal at his pricepoint. Of course Chelsea might challenge this or next season. They might win the PL one of those seasons. The potential for a well oiled team that includes those players is incredible and it will hopefully break up this 2 horse race crap that has broken away from the old days of a big 4-6.

10th September 2020 at 1:27 pm #165949The great thing is mak, Jones and taa are scousers. We haven’t had two scousers come through in over 20 years since Carragher and Stevie. It’s brilliant. Taa is a genuine top top class player. Improving all the time defensively and will probs move into midfield at some stage.
Jones just looks so cool and calm on the ball. Under klopp I think we will see him get better and better
I think sometimes we need to take a step back and remind ourselves of the absolutely shit times we have had over the years. What klopp has done is remarkable in 5 years. He has done it absolutely the right way and it was all about patience. We have lost 4 games in 76 league matches. We dropped two points before the watford game. Crazy stuff.
I want to see signings but if we dint sign anyone, I still fully trust klopp and the board.
No matter what happens from here on in, the 30 year wait is over. That burden is gone. I hope we can push on but sometimes it’s hard to believe we are the champions. It’s been a fantastic few years
Good post by the way. Akways honest mate and I know were you are coming from

Last season was a bit of a blip for city. They are the bookies favourites_____________________________

10th September 2020 at 1:44 pm #165952AnonymousI know City are bookies favourites and as I said above, they were for the CL too, the bookies can be strange sometimes but I agree with you that last season was a blip, or downturn for City. I mean, they didnt look after their defence, so it wasn’t out of nowhere either but ya, they won’t lose 8 this time around but the thing is, it wouldn’t have mattered. I absolutely with all my heart believe we’d have gotten 105+ points if it were absolutely needed. If they had pushed us all the way, we’d not have relaxed as we did.
It definitely is relevant that we dropped off though, if you remember I was going absolutely batshit when we were throwing away our chance to set a record but a huge part of that was momentum and teams thinking you’re now beatable because there’s value in the other team thinking they haven’t a chance.
Going back to Trent though ya man. I have a vague memory of when he was really awful defensively. We were all far less sure about the type of player he’d become, with most agreeing that he’d be best moved to midfield etc etc but there was as game versus City and he pocketed Sane. That for me was this big eye opening moment. It was a performance is such strong contrast to some others, where we saw him defending so well against a top class player like Sane… the funny thing is he went on and had some proper mares defensively after that and it was nearly forgotten but over time he’s really learned his trade. I really doubted he ever would develop those skills and although he’s not perfect, he’s actually really solid now. bingo on the other site goes on about him being future captain, ahead of Van Dijk and I don’t agree, if it happens soon but he may actually be right about this one, if Van Dijk isn’t at the same lvl that he is now. trent may well be a future captain, because he’s a scouser of course. I’m hoping to see Jones coming on as a sub as often as possible this season too. Jury is still out on him but he’s our best chance of the next group and as you say, a scouser.
It really is hard to believe that we’re Champions alright sometimes. What’s the scene from Batman, where the joker talks about how he’s like a dog chasing a car, how he’d never know what to do if he ever caught one? That’s us with the PL title.

10th September 2020 at 2:58 pm #165953Very little being mentioned about Spurs & Arsenal. Think they could have good seasons. Don’t quite get why Man Utd are being so heavily talked up. Unless they get Sancho, can’t see them doing much. I think Chelsea will continue to blow hot and cold. City and Liverpool still the ones to beat I think, though all depends on where their focus levels are at.

10th September 2020 at 3:16 pm #165954Arsenal now have a bit of steel about them but is steel being sacrificed for good football?
In the big games arsenal under arêtea have been very defensive, I’d nearly call it park the bus tactics. Go a goal up and get everyone behind the ball and defend from their 18 yard line
Be interesting to see how they set up this season againest the top sides.

10th September 2020 at 3:39 pm #165955AnonymousFunny you should say that Mikus, cause I talked about Spurs and Arsenal but deleted the paragraph cause my posts were going on so long already 😛
Utd’s 2nd half of the season form was far better than the first from what I remember. as for Utd, well i think they are on the up regardless of their business this summer but of course them signing Van Der Beek and the possibility of Sancho would be a good one but they have an ok core now, since they got Fernandes in. I’m staking my FPL season on it (well initially anyway).
Sean I think Willian will be a good addition for Arsenal. Focusing on defence won’t do them any harm, they were way too brittle before but Willian is not exactly a megastar from the continent, so he’s gone under the radar but he’s a decent enough player who will add something to them going forward.
I’m counting the days til this kicks off, it’s seemed like it’s been so long. I’ve an older gentleman living in the flat next to me and he’s a Leeds fan. Over the years we’ve all been talking about Liverpool or Leeds potentially finally doing it and they’ve both gone and done it at the same time, so of course the first PL match is between them. I’m not terribly confident that we’ll win it either. I mean, it could be a loss for us, or we might beat them by 6. call it! I can’t.
I can see Arsenal smashing Fulham though alright.

10th September 2020 at 4:01 pm #165957Who will be the best signing?
I’ll go for WernerWorst signing?
Watkins or James
It’s such a mad window. Burnley want 50m for tarwoski yet you can get Werner for 45
Watkins for 28m yet Wilson for 20m

10th September 2020 at 4:15 pm #165958City being favourites for the PL title is just a reflection of where people have been putting their money.
If Liverpool can get anywhere close to the level they were at last season it will take a very good team to finish above them.
I think the title will be between Liverpool and City again, the next few weeks could be a factor though leading up to October 5th and the transfer window closing and what both Clubs do in those few weeks might have a determining effect on the title race.
It will take Chelsea time to find their feet and for the new players to settle we didn’t see the best of Pulasic until the second half of last season and so many new players will take time to blend. I think we’ll still see a Keeper join and possibly one other with one or two leaving.
United still have until October 5th to strengthen further DVDB is a good signing and Fernandes turned United’s season around in the second half of the season. And you can’t write off Wolves and Leicester either in terms of the top 4.
Spurs will become very hard to beat under Mourinho and they have the threat of Kane and Son up front and Arteta is improving Arsenal and they have Aubemayang and one or two very good youngsters coming through and both Wolves and Leicester will be there or there about’s.
The PL is going to be very competitive both in the title race and the top 4 spots next season.
