Mak, usually you would say ah it’s only Everton but with Carlo there, they are really good signings. He’s a top class manager.

8th September 2020 at 9:28 am #165866Very interested to see how Chelsea get on
Firepower in abundance
Mak, I worry about our high line. It was breached a good few times last season
Also I love Gomez but he looks out of sorts in pre- season and the end of last season.
Im concerned about us this season. No real cover for the front 3 and only 3 centre backs
I’m really Hoping for a big season from keita
Anfield crowd aswell is the biggest concern of sll

8th September 2020 at 9:36 am #165867Barcelona are interested in bringing Bayern Munich’s Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara, 29 – a target for Liverpool – back to the club. (Bild – in German)
Thiago going home?

8th September 2020 at 11:03 am #165870Yeah I think with Chelsea’s spending this summer, it’s definitely a top 3 now with the rest fighting it out for 4th. I think they’ll finish above Liverpool but behind City. 4th is anyone’s guess.

8th September 2020 at 12:38 pm #165878Anonymous67, that’s crazy if Inter don’t have a place for Eriksen but… I have to wonder a bit you know. His heart wasn’t in the whole Spurs thing for a long time before he left, or so that’s the impression I got from their fans. Maybe it’s just that Eriksen’s heart isn’t really into the discipline required to be a top level player? I mean, there’s absolutely no doubting the guy’s talent, so it isn’t that. Interesting though.
I mean, it is also possible that you can be unlucky 2 times in a row and things just didn’t work out but that 3rd time’s the charm kinda scenario.

8th September 2020 at 12:57 pm #165880AnonymousNine, I wouldn’t listen to Bild in an elevator. Not saying Barca aren’t interested in him but they will say anything that sounds logical in order to gain clicks, regardless of there being any actual foundation to the story. The worst kind of tabloid filth, behind The S*n of course.
Sean, all fair concerns I guess. The high line works when we’re playing to our best but that brings in your other concern about Gomez and although I go on about him, I’m not forgetting the last time he dropped off and couldn’t get back into the team until Matip got injured. Around that time I heard rumours about Gomez not being very professional or something like that, if I remember specifically what it was, I’ll come back and say. i wrote them off at the time but Gomez can be imperious, or he can be kinda all over the place (like he is now, let’s be honest).
I still don’t want to see him replaced because I know the player he can be when he’s on form and when he is, he’ll stay at that level for long spells, so it’s not typical inconsistency.
this again though ties into yet another concern of yours and that is that we only have 3 CB’s. City essentially threw themselves out of the title race by going into the season with only 3 CB’s, are we going to make the same mistake?
As for no cover for the front 3, I don’t understand this either but Klopp seems very very happy about it. We do now have Minamino to cover for Firmino and he does look like he may actually be good (when I first saw him I wondered why we signed him). After that Maybe Klopp is confident that he can get creative with the players he has and formation changes etc, to cover the loss of say Mane or Salah for an extended time. I’m not confident that we’d be ok to lose one for a long time but I am not the manager.
These are the problems with Liverpool though. We won the PL with most of them and I think we can do it again, except I think we need a decent cover CB to be signed. Chelsea may have the best team in the PL after this season is done and City may be back there too but they both have a long way to go to match our first 11. I don’t mean an on paper comparison but a comparison in output before injuries and such take their toll.
Even with the virus impacting things, most other clubs are able to buy players. These clubs don’t have our wage bill but they also don’t have the TV and price money that we’ve taken over the past 2 years. I really really hope to see us buy some quality, especially considering that we have a few decent mid-tier players on the market that can bring in a fair chunk of change.
I will definitely have something to say when the transfer window closes. Too much time left for us to have an opinion on how we’ve performed in it. Chelsea and Everton though ya wow. As you say Sean, they’ve got the manager to use these signings too. James has worked under Ancelotti 2 times already, so he knows what he’s getting.

8th September 2020 at 4:08 pm #165888Without City signing a cple of world class players until the end of the window, and without Covid-19 causing more mayhem to the game,Liverpool easy to defend the title, and City to finish 2nd.Everything else up for grabs, imho.

8th September 2020 at 4:51 pm #165893Mak, the Thiago to Barca rumour came from the BBC Football site although it did originate in Bild.
Barca would be a draw for Thiago I’m sure but then again so would Liverpool.
Can’t see why Liverpool haven’t moved to wrap it up be a good signing for them at a decent price. Cheers 9’s

8th September 2020 at 6:13 pm #165894AnonymousMy guess is that any move for him depends on Wijnaldum’s contract. Maybe Gini really does want to get a free move at the end of his current one, in order to get the best pay from what will likely be his final contract, or close to that.
I mean, it’s that or Liverpool are trying to flog him and there are no takers, for the money they want…. Or it’s all made up!
My own thinking on this is that from what we hear, Thiago is absolutely amazing. Comparisons were made by many to KDB, which personally I don’t really see if I’m honest but to be mentioned alongside such a brilliant player, is hardly a terrible sign!
So, if he can improve our team, bloody well move on him. I know Klopp really really rates him. he’s mentioned him before, when there was no link at all. Klopp said something like Thiago is the one player that he admires most from the Bundesliga, or words to that effect. So, if that’s true and Thiago wants a move, surely we make it happen, right?
No way Liverpool are THAT broke.

8th September 2020 at 7:14 pm #165898So far we have two decent signings and at least another to come. Little net spend so far.
£62m spent, £55m in from Sane (as near as reported), so I think there is still scope for a big spend. Also there will be one or two more outgoings._____________________________

9th September 2020 at 11:51 am #165925It’s a bizarre window. Some prices madly inflated like Watkins and some dirt cheap like van de beek

9th September 2020 at 12:39 pm #165928AnonymousCheers Mav and WB Aussie. Another who thinks we’ll finish 3rd though, nevermind the league. I hope you lads are all wrong. I understand why people think this, we’re literally a weaker side now while everyone else around us is stronger. I myself feel a bit torn because I can understand wanting to be pragmatic about it but I also know that in order to stay at the top you MUST continue to try to improve, especially in such a competitive environment.
Word out there now is that Alcantara is staying at Bayern. What does this mean for all the Wijnaldum talk/lack of a new contract agreement?
It would absolutely be a nightmare to lose Wijnaldum and not get Klopp’s favourite Bundesliga player as replacement, or just anyway.Liverpool aren’t that I know of, linked to any CB’s either. I don’t want to doubt how we do business because it’s usually quiet but we traditionally get our transfers done early, so the worry is that we’re going after literally nobody.
At least sign a CB but also please one other quality player. Don’t have to break the bank.

I like that some quarters are writing us off. Rightly so though as a few injuries and we are screwed
