According to SSN’s in his statement Messi stated the type of defeats Barca suffered in Rome, Liverpool and Lisbon in the CL all contributed to his decision to try and push to leave

4th September 2020 at 9:18 pm #165771How stupid are the Barca board, Messi walks for free in less than 12 months, plays a few games and they finish up with zero Euro. Messi, cannot change Barca by having the President go on Garden leave for a season, then he will be back in his seat and still be in the box somewhere this season to watch him. It appears to me that everyone looses but what a daft scenario. At last we can now work on 2/3 signings

4th September 2020 at 10:34 pm #165772Brian, there’s a Prsedential election in March Bartomeu will be out then and the favourite to takeover doesn’t want Koeman. Things could look completely different at Barca this time next year.

4th September 2020 at 10:43 pm #165773In addition to that Brian, they’ll have fork out another £100m in wages for a player that clearly doesn’t want to be there – in his interview he stated he wanted to leave for the whole of last season. It was never about money (which he’s reportedly confirmed), he feels he wants a new challenge. Imo though, the desire for a new challenge is probably 2/3 years overdue.

5th September 2020 at 10:45 am #165776This is what I mean guys, loosers all round. Messi will have changed nothing at Barca and will not do so in the future. I am sure he has a couple of good years left in him at least but in what team>. I doubt City will be makeing further attempts, move on. I have always thought he would not interrupt his family life style too much and since money is not an issue, except to Barca, he can afford to pick and choose this coming season. I feel sorry for Koeman being caught up in the mess but again…if he picks him and Messi goes through the motions that will not be good enough to spark new life and also depends on the players around him, some they have not got yet, because they have not that much left in the Bank. If he benches him the barca fans will berate him. It will be different at Barca next season but will this be up or down?

5th September 2020 at 11:17 am #165777Always a difficult one to happen given all the circumstances and given the circumstances this was the only route out for all parties.
I don’t think Messi will go through the motions but neither do I think the changes Barca have made to date and will be able to make will turn things around sufficiently in one season although I wouldn’t write Barca out of a challenge for La Liga they were in the race this season to the final weeks despite their problems and Real Madrid haven’t been able to strengthen this Summer.
Bartomeu will be ousted in March and if the new Presidents plans appeal to Messi he might just stay if not there will be plenty of top Clubs willing to sign him next Summer on a free transfer even probably still City and by then Messi will know of Pep’x intentions to either stay at City or go.
Very difficult to predict the all round outcomes.

5th September 2020 at 11:25 am #165780I agree nine especially if xavi comes in as manager.Messi may well sign a new contract
I’m
A huge Messi fan. I just really did Not want his reputation to be tarnished at Barca and for to leave the legend he isAt least he wants to leave next summer then it might be done much more amicably . It be great to see him in the pl even at 34 and with city
In one way it’s good to see the club prevail as usually it’s the player and there’s far to much player power these days.

5th September 2020 at 11:33 am #165782I’d like to suggest that the probability of Pep and Messi not being at City from season 2021/2 is massively greater than Pep extending his stay and Messi signing in calendar 2021.

5th September 2020 at 11:49 am #165784Ye true Surrey blue but I think pep loves it at city mate. He’s already there longer then Munich is he?
On another note, Fraser, Wilson and Lewis would be 3 excellent signings for Newcastle
Glad to see Bruce do well there as last season was very tough on them. Seems a good honest bloke Bruce

5th September 2020 at 12:53 pm #165786If Pep doesn’t sign a new contract at City he could reunite with Messi at Barca you never know in football.

5th September 2020 at 3:44 pm #165790Think the world will change a lot in the coming 2 years, so it would be hard to predict. Oil revenues are certainly going down but there will always be a need and that will be reflected in price to be paid for the product it finishes with, which is a lot.Football will change with it, more loosers than winners but just hope our historic structure does not change too much. The only way Messi and Pep would re unite at Barca is if they purchased major shareholding. Messi will be looking way beyond his playing days and same goes for Peps coaching days. I think they both have a high level of personal/family life which is there priority now and into the future and why not? I also doubt if Pep will manage another team after City apart from a National team but at the moment he is enjoying his time at City, this gives him the freedom he is unlikely to get elsewhere. As far as the owners go, I think they are satisfied with the progress in general but it is no longer about, just City ,now, it is the City football group that they are building That is my Saturday ramble folks

5th September 2020 at 4:43 pm #165794Brian, until Pep signs a new contract which takes him past this season there will be continued speculation as to what his plans are. It’s difficult to understand what the hold up is.
There’s a little bit of a rebuilding job to do at City and there’s nobody better to do it imo I hope he stays.

5th September 2020 at 5:07 pm #165795Nine…when you look at the options, my guess he will say.” I do not have to hurry” I do think there is good communication between pep and the club, this makes a difference and if he plans to go he will let them know in plenty of time and may even assist in getting his replacement. I hope he stays 2 more seasons

6th September 2020 at 2:29 am #165806AnonymousI’ve had a lot to say about a few teams throughout this window. I guess if you were to put a gun to my head, I’d say that the PL is back. Personally I’m sick to death of the 2 horse race and this isnt the first time I’ve said this. Obviously I want us to be the main challengers. we;re favourites in my mind, not anyone else’s but I guess we’ll see.
