4th September 2020 at 7:35 am #165722Sancho back on Sean? It was already a done deal you said! 😁 I just can’t see Sancho deal happening as things stand and unless Dortmund budge on the fee. I have a feeling Utd were reluctant to pay the fee for fear of the bad PR around deals at that level in the midst of the global situation we find ourselves in. Chelsea doing a similar size deal for Havertz has potentially taken some of the pressure off Utd in that sense.
Either way, I just can’t see Utd spending that kind of money this summer

4th September 2020 at 7:42 am #165723I definitely think it’s done Ed
Reminds me of Pogba deal. It was done months before it was announced.
I don’t think the fee be 108m million
Chelsea have used their money very well but you never know how things will pan out for certain players
The must get signings of the summer were havertz and Sancho in my opinion
I think Werner is a brilliant signing and a very good fee aswell. He’s going to light the pl up

4th September 2020 at 8:27 am #165724Don’t Dortmund allegedly want £108m for Sancho £18m more than Chelsea have paid for Harvertz even if all the bonus payments are achieved and haven’t the Glazers told Woodward he can’t sign Sancho for that much?
For the Sancho deal to happen there has to be some give, Leverkusen wanted £90m up front for Harvertz and Chelsea weren’t prepared to pay that much up front hence the agreed £72m fee with £18m of possible bonuses based on Chelsea success.
Hitting or breaking the £100m level on transfers is almost certainly something United want to avoid.
Lovely goal from Werner last night going to be interesting with Ziyech and Harvertz loading the bullets for him and Pulasic alongside him.

4th September 2020 at 8:32 am #165725Sean, “I definitely think it’s done Ed” I doubt it Sean but it still might get done. No deal is done until the player has signed on the dotted line and even Harvertz has yet to do that hopefully that happens once he’s finished with Germany and Chelsea officially announce the signing.

4th September 2020 at 8:40 am #165726Nine, I imagine any Sancho deal will, like the Havertz deal, be a big initial fee with a number of addons. It will likely be over 100mil though for the total fee with addons which isn’t a million miles from the total fee for Havertz at 89mil. My point was that Chelsea have started the ball rolling for big fees this summer imo. I think a few clubs were either not willing or not able to be the first to get to those kind of levels in a year when clubs have had to apply for government aid to pay their club staff.
My only point is that I think some more big deals could potentially happen now that Chelsea got things going.

4th September 2020 at 8:44 am #165727Although, as I said earlier, I don’t think it will happen regardless. I think Utd are very wary of the PR around spending such huge sums this summer. Hope I’m wrong though. Without Sancho, we’re fighting Spurs & Arsenal for 4th.

4th September 2020 at 11:04 am #165729What’s £18m between friends Ed.
Chelsea are in a unique situation coming out of a transfer ban and sitting on a very large pot of transfer monies from previous sales out and they’ve looked to take advantage of that and the current circumstances which seems like smart business to me.
Had Dortmund been prepared to accept £90m from United for Sancho I think he would have probably been a United player long ago.
Seemingly the brakes have been put on Woodward re Sancho by the Glazers?

4th September 2020 at 11:46 am #165730Nine, we’ve no idea that it is 18mil though, that’s the point 😁. The only thing we know is the Havertz fee totals 89mil with addons. The 108mil is what the media are reporting but Utd haven’t bid yet. It could be no difference. It could be 20mil difference. The point remains. Chelsea were the bravest this window so far with spending large sums despite the worry a lot of clubs face. It’s certainly not a dig. I wish my club would spend a bit more bravely than they’re doing so far!
As for why Sancho hasn’t happened, we can only read the rumours and make our own minds up. Lots of stories going round that Utd are not prepared to pay the agent the fee he is demanding. In which case, I fully back the club’s decision in taking such a stance. How much truth there is in that, or indeed the Glazers blocking the deal, we can only speculate.

4th September 2020 at 12:15 pm #165731Ed, as you say I think Sancho is potentially the difference between you fighting it out for 4th and propelling you to even greater heights. And I think the club obviously realises that, which is why, given the window not closing until next month, you’d still expect Man Utd to keep pushing for him. You really really need somebody to take the club up a notch.

4th September 2020 at 12:15 pm #165732A thought I’ve had re Utd is that we should look to bring in Bale for a season on loan. Surely Madrid would love to get him off the wage bill for a season and there’s little risk involved for a season from Utd’s point of view. Assuming we can’t get Sancho this summer, Bale would give Utd much needed depth for either wing. I’ve always been really against bringing Bale in as it stinks of another Sanchez-type mistake but a loan would be perfect. Very similar to what Bayern did in being unabe to get Hudson-Odoi and then Sane, they brought Perisic in as a short term option until they could get their man in Sane.

4th September 2020 at 12:18 pm #165733Yep definitely Mikus. In the event we can’t make the deal this summer, I do think someone like Bale on loan until we can get Sancho (or whoever else is our 1st option at the time) is better than falling back onto secondary options like Douglas Costa.

4th September 2020 at 1:00 pm #165735Ed, “The only thing we know is the Havertz fee totals 89mil with addons. The 108mil is what the media are reporting ”
Isn’t the £89m with add ons for Harvertz still only what the media are reporting too?
I’ve seen no official announcement from either Club re the fee Chelsea paid for Harvertz or the structure of it.
I’m sure it’s probably not far of reality but it’s still the media’s speculation.
As for Sancho I think Dortmund will ultimately bend it’s not in their interests to let him run his contract down to a year next Summer. On the plus side they would get another season out of him but he also would substantially lose his transfer value with just 12 months left on his contract.

4th September 2020 at 1:38 pm #165738Don’t think so Mav.
“Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho has been rewarded for his excellent recent performances for the Black-and-Yellows with a fresh contract, which ties him to the club until 2022.”
The above is supported elsewhere too.

4th September 2020 at 1:42 pm #165739I think Sancho really would be a brilliant signing but i still badly need a centre half to partner Maguire. Get Sancho into an already formidable front line and a centre back and it’s been a very good window for utd
Midfield is very strong now with some great options. The lads upfront But even thigh the defense has improved, its their weak link at the minute
A good squad is being build there now like Chelsea

4th September 2020 at 1:51 pm #165740Very true Nine re the 89mil. Could be less or more than that in reality. I had assumed you had seen official Havertz confirmation when you mentioned the fee earlier in the thread.
Mav is right though re 2023 https://af.reuters.com/article/idAFKCN25713S-OZASP
Hence why I don’t think his value goes down much even next sumer. If anything, more clubs will be in the mix. Both Barca and Real will need successors to the throne of their recently departed star players. Aside from Mbappe, I can’t see who else would satisfy the fans as much as getting Sancho in for either of them.

4th September 2020 at 2:12 pm #165742Ed as per my post yesterday 😀
“Ed,the fee for Harvertz according to SSN’s consistent with the majority of the media. “Kai Havertz is closing in on a move to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen after the clubs agreed a package of €80m plus €20m in add-ons for the midfielder.”
Personally I will be happy if Chelsea pay the full 100m Euros because it would mean they’ve been incredibly successful”
My understandings on the Harvertz fee has always been based on what the media have said very rare for the Club’s to officially announce a fee.
There seems to be quite some disparity on where the Sancho contract is I’m not sure he’s actually signed an extension if he has it makes it a lot tougher for United though and much easier for Dortmund to stand by their guns.
