Always Nine!
We spend money we have got and its moneybags City or Oilcity or variations. Others spend money they havent got, go more into debt but thats wonderful.Talking of money, the EPL have just said that at this moment no Chinese TV revenue -£500m.
If its not replaced……..!? Actually £532m._____________________________

3rd September 2020 at 2:28 pm #165699I still don’t think the Messi situation is clear cut. Too much has been said.
The easiest solution is for Messi to play out this season at Barca and then leave on a free to wherever he decides he wants to go for a season of two. But it will be tough for him to play this season under Koeman given his relationship with Koeman.

3rd September 2020 at 2:33 pm #165700Adlab, I don’t think anyone has ever questioned City not having the money it’s where the money had come from which has been questioned.
City though over the last couple of seasons have been very careful with what they have spent as you have rightly pointed out that strategy seems to be carrying on this Summer too presumably because City believe UEFA’s eyes are still very much on them.

3rd September 2020 at 3:31 pm #165702Nine, totally agree chum.
Messi should stay for another year then leave in a free
Problem is he will be fuming how this has planned out . Barca will have an unhappy player
Hopefully it’s resolved amicably and they messi doesn’t lose his legendary status .
I suppose it will blow over In a few years and he will be fondly remembered as what a player
Unless he puts his head down for his final year and leaves On a high note. They be the ideal ending
Going to be really interesting to see how this pans out

3rd September 2020 at 3:33 pm #165703Looks like £71mil rising to £89mil. Never easy to know which fee is the right one when addons come into the picture. Different outlets report them differently, too.
Don’t know much about him tbh but he’ll need to hit the ground running at that price. Sounds like he’s a top young player.

Really Nine? They’ve supposedly offered Messi a £600mil+ package! Hardly tightening the purse strings. City will spend big again this summer, make no mistake.

3rd September 2020 at 3:57 pm #165705Ed-If not Messi, then sir Harry would seem the obvious choice, for City to send big this window. But surely too late now…..

3rd September 2020 at 4:01 pm #165706Doesnt make any sense for Barca to go for Wijnaldum, the player is nearly 30.What they need is a massive rebuilding job, sign young players like Mbappe,Sancho,J.Felix,etc.

3rd September 2020 at 5:05 pm #165708Ed, as Jorge Messi says “there’s nothing yet” in relation to Man City.
And there’s absolutely no way that City would spend £630m on getting Messi that’s just the official buy out clause and no club will pay that buy out clause and why would they when Messi would be available on a free transfer next Summer.
If you check out City’s spend they had a minus net spend of circa £6m in 2018/19 and they’ve spent circa £5m net this season.

3rd September 2020 at 5:16 pm #165710No Nine, I’m not talking about the release clause. It’s the total wage package to Messi over the years in City and their “sister club” in NY. Of course nobody will be offering the release clause!
Not sure where you’re getting their figures from Nine but if we’re going to look at the very pointless net spend figures, they’re up to about 30mil spend this season. 18/19 they spend ca 24mil while sandwiched between and before those 2 windows was a 200mil and a 100mil net season. Picking out individual seasons and pointing to net spend tells us very little.

No problem at all with their spending but it’s not accurate to suggest they’re pulling back their spending.

3rd September 2020 at 5:58 pm #165712Ed,all the figures I’ve seen suggest that City are spending in a much more constrained way over last Summer and this Summer not probably because they want to but probably because they know UEFA are watching.
Given that I’m not sure how City could manage to pay Messi the wages he’s on at Barca and I doubt that any Club taking Messi on will pay him anything near to what he’s earning at Barca certainly not in Europe given FFP.
We all know that City’s owners can afford to spend whatever it takes on whoever they want but they can’t do that and remain within FFP.

3rd September 2020 at 6:08 pm #165713Ed, the fee for Harvertz according to SSN’s consistent with the majority of the media. “Kai Havertz is closing in on a move to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen after the clubs agreed a package of €80m plus €20m in add-ons for the midfielder.”
Personally I will be happy if Chelsea pay the full 100m Euros because it would mean they’ve been incredibly successful.😀

3rd September 2020 at 7:22 pm #165716Nine, spot on, City owners are not stupid people, or are there management. Given barcas precarious financial position it makes you wonder by keeping a player who is clearly dissatisfied and having to pay his huge salary Messi can afford to sit back, go through the motions and see what happens. barca are the big losers. As for City’s position, yes , it would have been nice to have him, at the right price and I am sure there would be ways of accounting for him, however, I have taken Peps view, he will not leave barca. why should he, a loopy president can be put out to grass for a year and then as politics go, will be back as soon as Messi goes. Needs must…but a whole waste of time and space. I doubt Barca and Messi will be a threat next season because they need a new team not just Messi.
