2nd September 2020 at 6:46 pm #165670Allan and doucoure are two astute signings by Everton. Two tough players. Allan goof at sitting at breaking things up while douciurce can sit or push in. Under 60m for both. Good business
As nine and others eluded to, we are now seeing c19 prices.
Van de beek at 23 , Dutch international and big cl expierence is a very good price for such a highly rated player

3rd September 2020 at 8:26 am #165673“Messi 90% likely to stay
According to reports in Argentina, Messi will announce on Thursday that he is staying at Barcelona. He is still at an impasse with the club over his contractual situation, and appears he is going to accept his fate.
Barca are still adamant that any team interested in buying him will have to pay the £636m release clause in his contract, as his exit clause expired in June.
With no club able to pay that fee and still comply with financial fair play, Messi has reportedly accepted that he will have to stay until the end of the 2020/21 season to leave at the end of his contract. “? Daily Express

3rd September 2020 at 8:45 am #165674What a touch of class from Ajax. Classy club. Classy CEO. Would love to see VdS back at the club in some capacity.
United fans: @vdsar1970 has written an open letter to you in today’s Manchester Evening News about @Donny_beek6 ❤️❤️❤️ @AFCAjax #mufc pic.twitter.com/Wfr04iykQl

3rd September 2020 at 9:27 am #165675But would that letter have been sent though Ed was VDS not their DOF I doubt it.
Chelsea didn’t get a letter like that from VDS when they signed Ziyech.😀

3rd September 2020 at 10:11 am #165678Possibly not Nine but Donny had been with the club since being a young kid so I’m not sure it’s comparable to Ziyech.
I think it’s a display of the mutual respect between the clubs as much as anything. 2 historic clubs famed for bringing kids through the academy more so than probably any other clubs.
Steve, comparing the fee to English players is always pointless. You want a English core to the team then you either bring through the kids if they’re good enough or you buy at a massive premium, which is what we’ve had to do. Now if we compare it to the Pepe fee, on the other hand… 😉. Joking aside, all our clubs are guilty of wasting millions on players who don’t justify their fees.

3rd September 2020 at 10:15 am #165680Nine…Messi…surprise, surprise!!!! I think he took on the Barca Board thinking he only had a fight with President and lost…he will re sign for Barca. EPL does not interest him and Pep has always stated he will not leave Barca. I do not think it changes anything for him at barca though but I expect he will live with it for a couple of years

3rd September 2020 at 10:28 am #165681Difficult one Steve. It’s not only a case of buying British but buying players from within the PL that carries the premium due to the fact every club is pretty secure financially and don’t need to sell. It’s easy to point at examples of cheap foreign imports through the years but buying from outside the PL, whilst often cheaper, often carries a number of risks too.
Arsenal, for example, probably would have paid more for Zaha than they did for Pepe but you’d have been instead buying a player who you’d know would hit the ground running in the PL. It’s not always worth the risk to try to save a bit of money by going for the cheaper alternative from outside the PL.

3rd September 2020 at 11:07 am #165684It’s all still rumours Brian. But if Messi really wants to leave Barca next Summer at the end of his contract is the easiest way to do it but at then 34 his most sensible destnation might be Inter Miami.
But I suspect Messi wants another go at trying to win the CL and if a real CL contender comes in for him that’s where he’ll go on a free. But you wouldn’t write off him extending his contract either. Still a fair bit of water to run under this bridge yet imo.

I’m sure letters like the one above won’t harm his case.😊

Squads are a maximum of 25 for over 21 players (under 21 do not need to be registered). 7 of those must be “home-grown”, as in spent 3 years between 16 and 21 at a club within the English FA jurisdiction (Swansea and Cardiff count). Ake for City counts as HG despite being Dutch because of his time at Bournemouth as a kid. If you don’t have enough HG then you have to fill spots within the 25 squad limit with U21. Hence why good English players are always way more expensive than their foreign alternatives.
Liverpool I believe are at their limit on non-HG with only 7 HG players. They will need to sell one non-HG (Gini, Grujic Origi etc) before purchasing another or at least be very confident they will sell or loan them out. It doesn’t make financial sense to have unregistered non-HG over 21 players picking up a big fat salary for doing nowt and using a U21 player for the HG spot.
City were on the limit but Ake has improved that situation.

3rd September 2020 at 12:11 pm #165689Yeah I get that but that’s were the youth systems should be providing and buying lower priced better players for the first team

3rd September 2020 at 1:16 pm #165694Messi.
Odds on -2/7, to stay at Barca. I have said all along this is the likely outcome. Absolutely no surprise there.
All an exercise to get Barca changes.
Would have been interesting but unfortunate for the press as they will have to find another stick. Currently we have a net spend of approx £20m. That amount must be ruining football._____________________________
