30th August 2020 at 8:52 pm #163646That’s an excellent post Brian, which reminds me of the tales my Mum, Dad and Grandparents told me as a youngster . Sleeping in the tube stations, visits to Lyons Corner House, The Hammersmith Palais , Air raid shelters under their school and of course rationing which ended the year I was born.Life was simpler then and we have lost those times , I’m glad I’m not a teenager now, although I wouldn’t mind just one weekend.😁

30th August 2020 at 9:30 pm #163676Finally, cheers Sean 😅. Bargain that for Van de Beek. Have only seen him in the CL where he looked a class act. So much better value for money than chasing Maddison/Grealish for twice that amount.
£35mil, 23 yrs old and was being chased by both Barca and Real. https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2020/aug/30/manchester-united-in-contention-to-sign-donny-van-de-beek-from-ajax?CMP=share_btn_tw&__twitter_impression=true

31st August 2020 at 2:00 pm #164414Graham Hunter suggests that ultimately a compromise deal will be done between Barca and City for Messi which will be a players plus cash deal?
Everyone fighting for 2nd place if that happens imo.

31st August 2020 at 5:27 pm #1645411. Garcia. 2 Bernabia. 3 Mahrez or sterling. I would be really sorry to loose either Garcia and Bernabia. Not to bothered about Sterling/mahrez. Bernabia we should definitely keep better partner for essi IF he arrives, still do not think it will happen, May go back to Argentina followed by Augerro

31st August 2020 at 5:31 pm #164545City will not pay the stupid release price, they are better business people than that. They also know they could buy another team for that money assuming they would want to to that.I think they will keep within there own budget based on limited income in the coming months. The three players I mentioned I would say are worth 200 million by to days crazy prices

31st August 2020 at 5:54 pm #164558Brian, of course compromise also relates to the release clause too and Barca know nobody will pay that equally and ultimately they don’t want an unhappy player who doesn’t want to be there.
But Messi is such a massive player not just for Barca but also for La Liga that they just might stick it out.
I think you are being ultra optimistic with your valuations on Bernabe and Garcia both players can be signed on a pre contract for nothing in January and consequently would have little value as any makeweights.
I don’t think Messi will return to Argentina yet he still has a few years at the top of his game to try and win the CL again which I think is playing a big part in his current thinking.

31st August 2020 at 6:38 pm #164581I find it a bit strange that Spurs went in for Donny van de Beek , if, and it’s a big if they have that sort of money they should be using it for a LB,CH and striker not another MF an area we have players coming out of our ears. He will be a top signing for United, that’s some midfield PP, BF and Donny , going forward the front 6 is scary, if Ollie can get a couple of quality defenders in………. WOW.

31st August 2020 at 7:46 pm #164619Nine…Garcia will be out of contract but City can still demand a sizeable fee for the development of the player. Bernado, I thought he has longer on his contract….in any case my valuation was over 3 players. Maybe we can get 100 million + for Sterling and not far off for Mahrez. I am hoping Bernardo, at least is the one player not to go anywhere and would be surprised if Pep agreed to that. Can anybodyguess what is in Messi mind? he will go where he feels comfortable, has a decent team around him and family life not disjointed in any way. Then , there is always the possibility he may want the best financial package despite his current wealth. lawyers, tax bills always have to be paid

31st August 2020 at 7:51 pm #164620Adlab,being honest I know nothing about Bulgarian football apart from CSKA Sofia, but as long as Jose takes it seriously (which he should), I just hope for the best. We haven’t spent a lot but so far but the team has improved on the one that finished this last season, I hope for 3 more signings, striker, LB and CH .

31st August 2020 at 7:53 pm #164624Nine…I , irrespective of the negotiated, comprimise whatever you want to call it, also,I think I know the way City would handle it. IF, repeat, IF. it comes to a head
I guess it will be all very complex as these things have a tendency to go these days with image rights, tax, benefits salary etc etc.City will want something from Messi as well apart from playing_____________________________

31st August 2020 at 8:08 pm #164631City’s owners will get exactly what they want with Messi, the bragging rights of having the best player (debatable) that’s ever played. This is to top trump Qatar’s “we have the World Cup” brag. They won’t care that they will be getting a player that walks around in a huff when losing and does bugger all for the majority of the match. They won’t care about paying 200m and 90m a year salary, to them that’s loose change.
I disagree with Nine when he says if City get him everyone else plays for 2nd place. A few years ago sure, but not now. He would help City spank relegation fodder 8 or 9 nil but City don’t have that problem anyway as results showed. I cannot see him rolling his sleeves up when City find it tough which happened a few times last season.

31st August 2020 at 8:28 pm #164644Brian, you’re trying to confuse me now which is not difficult nowdays.😊
If you’re talking about Bernardo Silva then he would have real value in any makeweight deal.
You’re right City would be in line for a development fee for Garcia but I doubt it would be significant in a makeweight deal circa £75m I suspect throw Garcia into the mix and circa plus £100m in cash looks doable.
More questions than answers still re Messi but SSN’s are reporting Barca are fining him £100,000 a day for not turning up for training etc so I suspect there will be a solution one way or another sooner rather than later.
